I actually have both the widemaxx kit and these tires. Had the widemaxx kit since day one but with stock tires. Did ok, but the stock tires just blow up to bits in no time. I put the lp trenchers on and lowered to 22/54 gearing and it's a totally different truck, and the lp trenchers don't explode like the stockers. Also I have a spool in the rear end and thicker shock oil.

@@mickeysrc I almost went for the widemaxx kit but glad I held off. My truck is a month old now and I too hate the stock tyres, mainly because they come unglued very easily. I drive 90% of the time on dirt/grass so rollovers are not a problem......more the lack of grip on loose gravel. It is a struggle to keep straight. I just got a set of Trenchers today to try out, at 100 euros they are extremely expensive, almost twice the cost of the widemaxx kit. The widemaxx kit from what I have seen will just introduce a new set of problems however in regards to durability and a new list of upgrades that gets tiresome real quick. This seems to be the best option to stay as stock as possible but fixing the horrible handling. Thanks for the info.......saved me cash.

@jgrc73

They include longer outers I have the CvD kit But no need to install it yet, I’m running on rough terrain with snow and stuff it’s working great. Widemaxx was a good call for me on the “Rustler Maxx”...it handles very well. Preloaded & 60/70 wt shock oil, made a difference. Still lower gc than stock, however. To clarify with the outers included in wm kit I do not think the CvDs are absolutely mandatory but you will be replacing the plastic ones eventually. They don’t really snap just twist real bad after a while. I’m hoping to make it through the winter and the wet spring season before I put on the Steelies, they rust easily. Even though I use a compressor to dry up the truck each time there’s only so much time in every day - unlike a lot of people I am very fond of trax plastic. Cheap never rusts and it is pretty strong... The benefit of widemax is you can open up the throttle & countersteer in really tight stuff and it will slide as it oversteers. The truck is really usable in tight stuff, But I miss the extra travel and ground clearance. I bet it would traction roll much easier if I put good tires on it. I like traxxas tires the way they protect the driveline. I like aftermarket tires the way they hook the heck up. Always a tough call. I like your trenchers approach a lot. It is much, much cheaper and a totally viable alternative. Pricing the kit at $60 was genius, Since you really need shock oil and most people buy the CvDs And then pony up for the wide tubes a Set of trenchers seems like pennies by comparison. Great video, subscribed.

I went with the sledgehammers. Only run offroad as well, and I prefer as much traction as I can get. Do run the widemaxx kit, I just slow down when I turn. Haha. Have you done any speed runs or high rpm with the LP Trenchers? Curious about ballooning. I should add I did up the front and rear diff fluids. 100k front, 500k rear. Again, I run 98% offroad.
@mickeysrc
@mickeysrc 3 жыл бұрын
I run 98% off-road as well. The 2% is when I'm just too lazy to pick my truck up to walk it back to my car. If you don't want ballooning the sledgehammers were a good pick. I just don't like them because they're way too hard. They put a ton of extra stress on the drivetrain. Not as bad as paddles but they're super aggressive and don't have any give to them at all. The trenchers have a good tread pattern that will allow the tire to spin if you put too much power to them too fast. And I was talking about shock oil not diff fluid. Another controversial topic. Haha. Here's my old WideMAXX on LP Trenchers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpjWXqtjgdOgkK8

I had badlands on my first MAXX. Overall a much better tire than the trenchers for off-road/compact dirt which is what I mainly use my truck for. The only reason I got the trenchers, again, is because the compound is a bit harder and there's more tread overall so I think they'll last a bit longer. Honestly, I should have just got the badlands considering I've never had a truck long enough to wear the tires down. LOL
