Hello from Canada!! Great video guys! We watched last evening and one thing has been on my mind actually did bother me a bit...maybe our experience is just different from others..." the people are not friendly" ....the people we have come in contact with in PDC have been wonderful...yes there is the hustle with folks trying to make a dollar but thats life everywhere....we have had such a great experience with the locals and yes even those folks working 5th Avenue .... the ..." wanna get high" and the want some Tequila folks well its just the way it is on the strip say no thanks and just keep moving...we have walked all over PDC and only twice on very back streets did we ever feel uncomfortable... so we just moved onto another area...we don't dress flashy and lets be honest "carry nothing" is a wise choice when you travel anywhere....we truly fell in love with the area 4 years ago and have made the choice to try to spend our winters somewhere in the Riviera Maya...we had such wonderful experience with our AirBNB hosts who truly appreciate folks coming there....we found so many truly amazing little Mom and Pop restaurants that were absolutely the best food we have had and the people...just wow...we had our favourite spots out of the way and a bit of a walk....and with all we ate we needed to walk lol...i really hope people will go to PDC with an open mind and see the true beauty of the people there....we hope one day we see you walking down the street so we can say Hello!!...love your channel and look forward to seeing your next adventures....who knows maybe you will open our eyes to more spots to spend a winter!!....Viv

Oh, I absolutely agree about the chocolate! I'm from the UK and it is maddening how hard it can be to buy a bar of chocolate here, especially considering it's a relatively important part of Mexican cuisine. The selection wasn't great in Colombia either but Mexican supermarkets take it to another level.
@ForTheRoadTravels2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, coming from the UK, I know you totally understand that Mexican sweets and chocolate are just not what we're used to 👀🧐🙃 And I agree - the supermarkets here have a massive opportunity to bring in more international products, as the ex-pat population keeps on rising 🙌 Just last week Geovanny found out that his friend, who owns a tiendita, actually goes down to Chetumal every month to bring back more specialized products (Including Cadbury). There are a few ex-pats who order with him I believe. Happy to share his number with you if you'd like 🤩

Hi guys, just to mention that fiber optic Internet provider Totalplay offers a service called symmetrical Internet (Internet simétrico), where you can make your upload speed = to your download speed. I'm going to be honest, if these "cons" are the biggest complaints you have about living in Playa del Carmen, I might be moving there tomorrow. 😂 Long cab waits, "I can't find my favorite shampoo", and the sargassum seaweed (which is affecting everyone along the Atlantic coast), are solid complaints... But compared to "I'm working 60+ hours a week to afford a 1-bedroom apartment" makes it sound kinda nice.

*Hola amig@* 🙌 Awesome we love to hear other people's opinions 🤗. We totally agree with you, we used to work on hotels and longer hours and paying so much in rent, that the Cons we showcased in this video might not even be at all Cons for other people, nevertheless, when people want to move to other countries they always like to see what they have access to, our "cons" might not be perceived as cons for others. Playa del Carmen is an awesome place to live, but if there are things you are used to in your own country, you might miss it here and can be "cons" for you. Thank you amig@ for your comment we truly appreciate it 🙏🤩

We've done some research on this, and yes, it is available! 🙌 However, it exceeds our internet budget. There is a company supposed to start mapping out the fiber optic lines, but here in Mexico, it always takes longer than promised. 🫢

Great video guys! You are all so thoughtful and sincere. With regards to water quality, what would you recommend with the ice for tourists? If i get a drink with ice cubes, would i be okay? What about vegetables that were washed with the water in this area? Based on how many people visit i assume it’s mostly fine, but I’d wonder what you would recommend? Muchísimas gracias and thank you!
@ForTheRoadTravels2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gregory ☺️☺️ Thank you, we're so glad you found our video helpful 🤗 In terms of being served ice in restaurants, they should definitely be using filtered water to make their ice, especially if the restaurant is located near the tourist area ☺️ The water is not life threatening, but it just make your stomach a bit upset, so having a little bit of 'bad' ice really shouldn't have too much of an effect 🙏 I'm not sure if we're just used to the tap water here, but we only wash our veggies in tap water and have never had an issue. If you're really concerned about the water, the big garrafons of filtered water are readily available at any convenience store and would be the safest water to use for home cooking 💦 De nada, and we hope you have a wonderful time down here 🤗

We hope things get better, we hold some sentimental value to the city, but we'd love to find another less touristy area TBH. Thank you for watching and commenting John we really appreciate it 🙏🙏🤩🤩

Personally, we haven’t bought a car yet, and if you’re thinking to buying a second hand car, we strongly recommend find a good mechanic so can check it before you purchase. Otherwise there are name brands car dealerships in Mexico too 🇲🇽

Hi. Great informative vid. What are the implications of owning a car in Mexico? Expensive?
@ForTheRoadTravels2 жыл бұрын
Hello Nicolene ☺️☺️🤗🤗 Great question! We don't have our own car (just yet), so we don't have too much knowledge to share, but we would definitely recommend planning on getting one if you were to move here. Even though the big interstate busses are so easy and convenient for travel, having access to an 'every day' means of transport would make a big impact on your day to day living (at least here in Playa del Carmen). Geovanny says that in terms of mechanics, he'd definitely recommend going to one with a local who is familiar with them, otherwise they may try to overcharge you. Insurance is mandatory and getting your license is inexpensive and quick and easy, but you do need to either have temporary or permanent residency in order get a local license 😀 Unlike in South Africa, no one cares what car you drive, so you won't easily find luxury dealerships and having a small, understated car is perfectly ok! I wish we could give you more of an insight, but when we do get our car, we'll definitely share more info 😃 Sending you a hug 🤗

Haha, we both used to have the horrible habit of being late for everything, and when we moved to Mexico that all changed funnily enough 😅 Now as long as we're not relying on anyone else, we're always early 🙌 And you guys we're like 1 minute late 😉 Haha, I (Simone) would definitely not recommend that, especially considering how harsh the water is here 😅 Man, next time we travel abroad, snacks are probably going to be our biggest expense 🥲 What are your favorites since you've been here?🍫🍬🍭

I agree that the people-Mexican-in Playa del Carmen have changed; I’ve experienced rudeness last year 2023 which so surprised me. My husband and I been visiting PdC for 12 years; The first 10 years was pleasant and affordable. Sadly to say I decided not to go back to PdC; I’m kind of sad about it; but the aggressive behaviour towards us was a bid too much.

Hola Amy, thank you so much for watching our video and for leaving a comment sharing your experience, we truly appreciate it. 🫶🙏 We'd love to say that your comment is not true, but unfortunately, this has been happening in *PDC* for the past few years, I (Geo) who grew up here, have felt the change and it makes me very sad how people it's very rude not only towards tourist even with the locals. It's a shame because of the behaviour of some of the people, you have decided to not come back to PDC anymore. We really appreciate your comment, and let's hope things change for the better and you can give Playa another chance 🙏 🫶

I am thinking about coming out in December , am I able to rent outside AIRBNB without hassle? How can I trust the lease agreement is official and I’m not being scammed
@ForTheRoadTravels2 жыл бұрын
Hola amigo 👋👋 Yes, you're able to do it. We've never tried that way so we cannot nor we can recommend this to prevent scams. December is the highest season in the area, definitely AirBnb is the best option for affordable accommodation, but something cheaper you might find it in Facebook Market Place, but again this does not 100% guarantee you will not get scammed. We always recommend things that we have used and we have not experienced any major issue. Our best recommendation is Airbnb and if you are happy to move around with public transportation anything away from the 5th to the 20th avenue the prices will be cheaper. 🤩

Hi Patricia ☺️☺️ $830 does sound pretty high to us. We live in a tiny apartment, so our monthly rent is justified. But we did live in an apartment in Los Olivos, which is more comparable to Selanova about 18 months ago and were paying around US$550 per month. But there are a few factors to consider - the popularity of PDC for expats & tourists has skyrocketed in the last 2 years and inflation, so that just may be the going rate now 😌😌 Good luck with your move🤗🇲🇽

Justifying "MST" as "It's just the culture" is extremely infuriating. I was born and raised in Mexico, and I hated EVERY SINGLE time people were late "just cause". To be clear, this isn't something that everyone does, but there are a good chunk of people in Mexico that were raised like that.
@ForTheRoadTravels Жыл бұрын
Hola Shiki 👋 We do NOT "justify", what we did was a montage of what we've experienced, I was born and raised in Mexico too, and friends and family are usually late; so this really bothers me as well. I do agree not everyone is late, and for the ones who are; this is not a reason to say it's just the culture. There are a lot of things that I (Geovanny) don't like about our habits as Mexicans and we confuse them as "cultural" things, but we cannot change the world but we can do our best effort to change the things we do not like. Anyway, Shiki Byakko, thank you for your insight, we always want to read different points of view, thank you for watching and commenting, and we're sending you all the great vibes ✌️

While I overall agree with this video, I would like to chime in that my own experience of living in Playa for the past 2+ years is that it is a wonderfully friendly place; I particularly feel that way about the folks who have relocated here in the past 2 years due to unbearable restrictions in their original respective countries. Playa is a very beautiful place, but the huge drawbacks is that the US has basically transformed this tropical paradise into an amusement park for gringos. The result is huge horrid concrete monstruosities like the Hyatt that completely ruin the landscape near the sea, and that real mexican culture has been wiped out from the center of the city, the locals are forced away from it, and it is basically become a ridiculous Disneyland. Watching this I understand why Cuba is resisting the US "economical invasion" why the lobbies who control the US government are so pissed about it. Finally, due to the climate change and sargassum problem I would strongly advice against moving permanently here in Playa del Carmen. There is no point in living at the Caribbean if the beach is unusable most of the year. ps> I think you failed to mention the con that here you have to dispose of used toilet paper in the garbage bins, which is disgusting... and by the way here you do not even have the "bum gun" as in Thailand...
@ForTheRoadTravels2 жыл бұрын
Ciao Amigo 🤗 Thank you very much for watching and commenting in our video 🙏. I (Geo) cannot lie, about how much PDC has changed, I grew up in here where it was only considered a little beach town, (not even Mexicans from other states knew about it) and has been a quite sad, how has it changed and wiping out the real Mexico, and create something that is inauthentic about the country, but business have adapted to this, I would assume for increase on sells and therefore profit. There could be a lot of topics we could talk about PDC; but unfortunately we would not be able to cover in one single video, and there are some others that are politic related, which we do not considere ourselves prepared or wanted to showcase in our channel. Anyway we appreciate you have share your insights and thoughts, it helps us to understand, how people see PDC from another eyes other than ours or our friends 🙏 Thank you again.
