Thank you Josh! Your points to consider are excellent and very motivating. Self Employment definitely has it's challenges and it's not for the faint hearted. I appreciate the honesty. Most KZbinrs make it look so easy. It’s not easy. I am unable to get in and out of a thrift store in 30-45 min. I’m in there for two hours but that’s how I find the hidden valuables. This is my second go-round as well but I’m part-time. You are at Josh 2.0. Josh 1.0 was NOT a failure. I’m doing better my second time around as well!

Think the other thing to keep in my mind that experience and knowledge gap comes into play when sourcing. While it is fairly simple to acquire the knowledge that knowledge makes it easier to source quickly after a bit of experience. Id also take into consideration video editing which often includes multiple thrift store trips. Garage sales, yard sales, and estate sales are often better stomping grounds in the beginning. Depending on the source of discovery of these garage sales/others you can often weed out the reseller garage sales by the pictures/high priced ones as well.

@@annj3811 I feel that. If I started this when I was in my early 20's They'd been asking me what is wrong with me. From energy standpoint it would have been hard to stop me. I will say having less energy I have had to come up with ways to not waste effort and energy unnecessarily, imo that is very helpful. It would be nice to be able to go back and mentor the younger me in that department.

SOOOO HAPPY TO SEE YOU BACK! This is the BEST "consider before you go FT" video EVER!! And I've watched almost all of them on youtube! You absolutely nailed it about thinking like an employer. I'm a single mom living in Hawaii with a mortgage, 2 year old daughter, student loans, credit card debt, day care expenses, utilities etc., and thinking like an employer BEFORE I pulled the plug on my 9-5 was key. I didn't have as much saved as I wanted, didn't pay down as much debt as I wanted to, but my job was literally making me physically sick and emotionally wrecked. Dove in with a business coach and we strategized like hell to get me to the point where I could pull the trigger 6 months ahead of schedule :) Congrats Josh and welcome back!!!

Great info, glad to see you back. Im a full time ebayer for 23 years. It took me awhile to figure it out but this is how i made it all these years. I list the same amount of items in the same niche everyday. I bank drafts for weekends. Even on vacations (which i typically take a week off every month for a cruise) i list the same amount. Every single day 365 days a year i list 150 items. I sell in 3 niches. Everyday I spend 2 hours packing/shipping, and 3-4 hours listing. Before i niched down and had listing consistency money was tight. I worked all the time. No direction. Just did whatever i felt like that day, the business was a mess. Good luck to you. You got this!

Hi Josh, so glad to see you back and you made some very well thought out points. In your previous reseller “life” you always impressed me with your enthusiasm on your videos for the “thrill of the hunt”. Reselling is actually so many roles into one: sourcing, photographing, listing, the accounting, plus the pricing and marketing. It is a sole proprietorship. It’s hard to do all those roles equally well or enjoy them as well, but if one facet drives you and you are organized and efficient, then you should get there! Congratulations on your your new home and I wish you much success Josh! Cheers, Pat

I totally missed that you went back to work for a bit Josh! I did the same and am also back to FT reselling but kept a per diem job which is a great balance for me. I love everything you stated here and its all so true. I think like you said a huge way to keep going and stay motivated is to put a cap on your work time. Not to get too sucked into the "hustle" mentality. I don't do this to get rich, I do it to have flexibility. But of course as my business grows, that's great too. Thanks for the video Josh!

Love the honesty here! The grind is twice as hard if you are focusing on KZbin growth as well. I’ve started re-evaluating both reselling and YT monthly to see how I want adjust my effort and mindset for the upcoming month. Ultimately, my business comes first, so any wavering there means I pull back on YT even though it’s more of my creative outlet. As much as we all want to be our own bosses, not everyone is cut out for it, which is not a bad thing.

I love this really. I'm literally on the fence about at least starting a store online for a part time to get the hang of things. As far as a routine goes, I've worked at the same place for almost 12 years. I tried a different job for a week but it was way worse and I actually ended up making more money coming back and getting a set 9 to 5 weekdays only. I've been getting up every single day at 5am(this includes weekends) I honestly am so tired of my job working in the food business, its super draining especially being on your feet all day. I feel like I could manage the grind ,I know it's a different type but standing around a 1,000 degree + oven set up is horrible especially in summer months. Also making just a few dollars over minimum wage after almost 12 years is crap and I just really want to say thank you for putting this out there.

I work for the VA home loan balances so I have to discuss income qualification with people all the time. Keep it in real Josh! A lot of resellers sugar coat and don’t give the full picture so I’m glad you are able to talk about the truth. Truth is if you have a job that pays 6 figure plus with good benefits and health insurance you better bang out minimum 300K a year in revenue to get close to what you’ll make at a job. Only in America do you have to get a w2 job to prove income stability when you know you only got the offer letter to prove “stable income” and leave after 9 months to go make money doing what you enjoy. Screwed up system.

Josh I thought you quit reselling because your family staged a reality check intervention and told you to get a real job 🤣🤣🤣 Congratulations on your new home, looking forward to the next phase of your reselling career.

Congrats on taking another stab at this business! You have a good head on your shoulder so I'm sure it will work out for you. In my personal opinion this business does show people a lot of the fun sides but the reality is that its not easy. I think anyone that can commit can make $1-2k per month part time but once you decide on the full time income, scaling the business to the necessary levels is very hard if you dont plan properly and do your homework. Do the work and make it happen!!! Wishing you all the best!!! 🤙👍

When you work for yourself it’s very flexible, you can work any 16 hours per day you like! Total freedom 😏

It is funny that the banks have no idea how much turnover a large company like AMZ has compared to someone self employed (short history aside.) :-) For those following (maybe more than you) you have to know your numbers - it is easy to calculate backwards if you need $1k/month how many gross sales you need which translates how many listings you need to do etc. You can breakdown how you spend your time too. Best wishes - you do have to LIVE though to learn and that includes mistakes.

100% agree that knowing your numbers is extremely important. And it is funny that banks don't take into consideration turnover at companies like amazon lol. Appreciate the comment!

Being a full time reseller has nothing to do with KZbin.
@Josh-Kim3 жыл бұрын
definitely agree. you can be a successful reseller without KZbin.

I don’t know you at all. You seem like a great guy. Take this for what it is- free advice from a stranger over the internet- but i don’t think you have the temperament for this. You’re too emotional. Look at the people on youtube who succeed at this “job” (which can be extremely mundane and mind numbing) they are very robotic! I won’t name names but let’s be honest, the way many of these folks act socially, some probably are on the spectrum and are better off not w/ a traditional job. That’s fine, makes them better at this, which requires detail oriented skills, running around, boring listing and shipping and all the “picking” things which can make one crazy. I think you’re human, that’s great- you have expectations, ups and downs, seem to be a person with emotion and feelings. This reselling thing is a “job” for the few you see on youtube- they eat, breath and sleep trying to find ways to make a nickel- it’s an obsession, and the discipline and robot nature needed to find crap to buy, list, ship- it makes for fun to watch vids but a job for most it isn’t. I think the youtubers not only give a false view of how easy it is, but also the view that many can do this full time, I’d bet they are in a tiny but visible minority- no one does this for a living. Plus the youtube is the secret funding source + they sell to their “starstruck” viewers half the time. So maybe 10 people do this for a living. You seem to have quit a decent Amazon job- totally your call and probably many things not to like about it. But to come back to this reselling thing which seemed to have drained you and you sort of admitted defeat- feels like you need to be brutally self honest with yourself re: what you’re good at, what you aren’t. Best of luck.

Eh. I agree with the KZbin thing being a secret funding source tho.

I disagree. I think he is better suited than most because he has the unique advantage of analyzing his approach internally and externally. I think he is very rational and intentional. Good luck Josh!
