That black walnut is gorgeous. I am a 64 year old woman trying to convince my 2 sons who are in their early 30s to let me pay for a portable sawmill so they can mill the dozens of 20 inch diameter black walnut trees I have on 6 acres of land. Not to mention cedar and cherry. I have 2 black walnut trees that are over 100 years old that would be great for someone to mill into slabs, but despite reading how valuable black walnut is, l would have to pay thousands to have these trees removed.

Unfortunately sometimes the cost to remove out ways the price you will be offered. If you search black walnut slabs on Facebook marketplace you can message some of the local sellers to see if they would be interested. I’ve worked out deals with people where I get half the material in exchange for milling it up. No money exchange that way.

I can relate to your story. Live on 5 acres near Cincinnati, bought an Lt 28 in 2016 to saw up all the ash on my property. At 58, I agree that a hydraulic version might be a good investment for long term side job milling.

How much did you pay

For the Wood-Mizer? It was used and I purchased it for 11k.

For the record, when you say, "like a Cadillac", that doesn't leave a good impression. "Cadillac" doesn't represent high-end quality anymore. You don't have to agree. Just go get one...

Cadillac meaning way more options than let’s say a Pinto. I was comparing the HF mill to the WoodMizer. Really no comparison.
