I have had 2 Pokestops accepted in the past, but since they were too close to an existing Pokestop the game did not include it. Both of them are temporary spots for Max Particles now. So previously approved requests but not included in the game are being used instead of just a business. I see those too, so it is a combination.

You actually get 100 MP from each Power Spot, but there is a 20 MP bonus if you've never claimed MP from that Power Spot before. Most of them are businesses, but some are obviously proposed Pokéstops that failed. There is a particular mushroom-shaped slide in my local park that is a Power Spot.

One thing to note is that the Max move doesn't match the pokemon's type. It matches the type of the pokemon's fast move. TMing also doesn't reset the level if you've upgraded

after playing Monster Hunter Now(also made by Niantic), I'm surprised there's still only the remote raid pass in terms of global matchmaking in Pokemon Go. I have nobody to play Pokemon Go(or MHN) where I live, so I'm really glad MHN has random field monsters and raids(free every 3h) with global matchmaking(with random players). That POI is now a power spot. The majority of power spots I've observed are submitted POIs that have always shown up as portals in ingress. I do agree some appear to be local businesses that are not submitted POIs

The Max Strike is actually based on the Pokemon's fast attack's type. Also each Power Spot would usually gives 100 MP. The 20 is a bonus for your first visit, similar to the bonus exp from spinning a new pokestop.

FYI some places where the power spots are spawning are POI where a wayfarer has nominated 2 POIs in the same s2 cell. Some of my personal wayfarer noms are now powerspots.

Also, for the special research mission where you have to upgrade a Max move, it HAS to be the max strike move. The max guard or healing move won’t work for the mission.

There's a small mistake, the power spots don't always give 120 particles, if you have already collected particles at that spot it's only 100. I don't know if it resets when it changes and comes back another time though.

1:55 Some of them definitely are POI locations. We had one locally at a statue in a park (park is tiny with 3 pokestops and a gym already). So they are likely POIs they were accepted but not put into the game previously. But most are businesses, even businesses that are belly up.

Power spots are located at points of interest that were accepted but weren't turned into Pokestops. I've got one near me that I personally submitted and was approved, but it never showed up as a Pokestop.

That's the negative feedback of this new feature is people hate the storage limit they think it's stupid and then on top of that there's a certain limit of how many power stations you can go to per day which is 6 per day or 8 per day....

Here in Europe power spots are in places from other Niantic games. I submitted few Pokestops and they were accepted but they wrote that "we have more games and it doesn't mean that this will appear as Pokestop, it might be used in other games". So power spots around my house are those old Pokestops that i submitted but weren't used in PoGo.

I've had a couple wayspots approved in the past that ended up not used as pokéstops or gyms in Pokémon GO. But now I have seen them used as powerspots, so not just businesses. At least in my area.
