I totally agree with you guys. I own a pair of HT1003 pairing with my KEF Q750. Blending is top notch. you won't feel the subwoofer in music. "Disappeared". in movies, it pushes hard and gives necessary slam. I use it 15 by 15 feet room and works perfectly well.

I dont know if they sell in the USA but I am a big fan of a company in the UK called BK electronics. They used to build subs and amplifier units for REL but parted ways some time ago. They sell direct on line and make great subs at great prices. I use a pair of Double Gem subs in my music system each with twin 10 inch drivers and a 300watt amp. The drivers are arranged vertically so the cabinet shape works well in a music context or if you have limited floor space. Two of these can be had delivered for less than £800 here and they sound great to my ears. They also do a monster and very heavy Monolith plus sub which is delivered on a pallet, has great cabinet work, a 500 watt amp, 12 inch ported driver and works very well for movies. They all have high and low level inputs but I agree with those who say that high level inputs are not inherently better. They are just convenient for those stereo amps which dont have pre outs or a sub output.

I got the HT1205 at the end of 2021 to replace my SB1000 Pro and I was surprised at the difference, that thing is so controlled and just sounds better overall than the SVS. Mind you I'm in an apartment so I don't play them loud, I turned this up really high for fun and walls at the opposite corner of my 4 1/2 start rattling, and that's why I'm glad this sub is so great for low level music and moderate level home theater volumes. Don't get me wrong the SB1000 Pro is great, but it seems bloated in comparison. I've been spoiled by this sub, I think I'd rather sell the SVS than keep it as a sub for my secondary system and replace it with a 2nd HT1205 I can use in a dual setup (before the prices go up again) if and when I can ever buy a home in this crazy housing market.

I feel the same as you. Got the 1205 and sb2000 on demo and i dont know how to put it because the sb2000 is very nice but the rel just sounds punchier..cleaner.. more refined. If you want constant rumble well go svs... If you want refined bass when bass is needed..get a rel

Excellent video, love the Q&A style. Was tossing up the SB1000 but wasn't able to get a demo as the shops malfunctioned lmao. They instead showed me the REL HT 1003 and 1205 which knocked my socks off for the price point, when I'd honestly only just heard of the brand shortly before. After thinking about the room size I was trying to fill (for my PC in an odd empty space to the side of a large living area) I decided to go with the 12" and oh boy was I not let down. It hits amazing lows with enough oomph to rattle my eyeballs while still somehow maintaining its' composition enough to be incredibly smooth without distortion. This was my first "audiophile" type purchase, so I've never had a sub intergrate so subtly with my setup before, even though it can certainly provide one heck of a kick. Have the xover set at around 90Hz to intergrate with a pair of Audioengine A2+ which I use for my PC that begin to roll off at 80Hz, which I've had to EQ sans some of the low end so the sub still does its' job as I unfortunately found out I was not a big fan of the A2+'s standard sound signature without some tuning,

I bought a pair of HT 1205 a few months ago. They have been incredible! They are overkill honestly but they are loafing even at high volumes. Pretty amazing how well they blend even with the Focal Solo6 Be studio monitors. I need to put a high-pass crossover on them as they discussed in this video. Currently getting down to 18 Hz audibly!

Guys I have Rel ht1205 and let me tell you that if you loved 1003 you will be blown away by the 1205 it is a beast. And by the way I’ve also listen to ht1508 and that is just a monster when it’s called for and a gently giant in quieter scenes waiting to shake your foundations. And also would like to add that I run my 1205 on an average Denon av receiver, and when I took it to a hifi store to test Arcam avr850 I could not recognise my subwoofer, because it sounded so much cleaner, tighter more refined, detailed and controlled. I thought my 1205 sounded excellent on my Denon, but when I heard it on an Arcam I had a big grin on my face and now feel even more proud to be owning my sub. I hope this helps guys.

I bought one after watching your review to replace the Def Tec 10 inch sub I have been using with my LRS. Very good match with the LRS crossover set at 60 hz volume set about 20 percent . The sub is set up between the LRS against the wall , sounds perfect you can get down on your hands and knees in front of the sub and NOT hear it all the bass seems to be coming from the LRS. Quite amazing and quite a compliment to such a huge improvement in preformance . The Maggies are full range now. Great review guy's.

@@peerguy I'm use the LRS for 2 channel music listening only and find the 10 inch sub is very fast and smooth. If you turn it off while listening you only notice a little lack of punch in the kick drum and of coarse you will loose the very low bass . Upright and electric bass still sounds good without it on but when turned back on it gives you more snap and fullness but you cannot tell it's not just coming from the LRS. This replaces a Def Tech 10 inch sub and is lightyears better in every way , very happy with my sound. Quite impressive actually it sounds amazing.

Real control for music, especially at higher SPL, requires lots of power and servo controlled in my experience. Always surprised more subs are not servo controlled. To this day, not heard a sub that beats my 20 year old Velodyne HGS. I'm sure they exist, but I have yet to hear it.
@suzesiviter6083
@suzesiviter6083 2 жыл бұрын
i dont think you do need servo if you design it well, like any sub, the trick is to create highly controlled excursion which is more a factor of good physical driver construction, plus servo designs usually have an additional coil adding to the mass OR they feedback the current (proportional to velocity) in velocity feedback systems. Problem with many of these subs is they make the box size too small, so when they adjust the equalisation you end up with massive excursions at low frequencies, I have built large subs with minimal equalisation which sounded relatively brilliant because they were well within their excursion boundaries and hence lower distortion.

I'm sorry but if you cross the subwoofer at 100 Hz with bookshelves you can definitely hear and feel where most of the bass is coming from, thus you'll hear/feel 2 sources of bass, so that's a big no-no ! Ideally would be to cross it anywhere between 50-80 Hz max! That way the bass just fells like it's coming from the speakers.

Nice video! I think it's interesting that we have categories like "movie" or "music" subs. I get what people mean with it. But I think there isn't a thing like that. I mean I want the sub to be for example tight both for music AND movies. And extension down to say 18hz is important for music as well as to movies. And each category isn't more complex or easier than the other either, IMO.

@Tim._..
@Tim._.. 2 жыл бұрын
It would be an option in his 2 channel Amp or home theatre receiver, then you would need to use the sub outs on the amp going into the sub. So you would need that option in your amp if you have passive speakers, but if you had active speakers which had a dial to roll off the base then that could be another way. If you had the active Kef LS50 Wireless 2, then they have a high pass filter option built into the app.

It is due to the way the camera sensor is read, from top left to bottom right, line by line. All subwoofer videos have this effect. I’m currently in REL hell, as I try to guess which sub to go with for my 20 by 20 by 15 (height) space. Mostly my error, as I’m coming from a ported 8”, 125 RMS, PSB sub, which properly filled the aforementioned space. I’ve tried the T5x & T7x. The resolution that the T Series offers is unmatched, I’m guessing, as my Peach-tree D5’s never sounded better. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for movies, as they just couldn’t deliver, IMHO. The T9x is a little too rich for my blood financially, so I’m now thinking to try a 1205 ($700) or a 1003 ($550). Conclusion: Went with a Rythmik 12FVXSE (piano black, ported). Love it.

Okay enough about the over branded, overpriced REL's. I need you guys to review a Rythmik sub. The servo technology should make them them much better than REL for music. Or movies. Do it!

looking into it. Rythmik has been rather hard to get hold of. Not sure if they don't care or they don't want their product reviewed on youtube or both
@mesonto
@mesonto 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jayiyagi Actually checked into buying 2 of them. But they are not shipping anywhere outside the USA right now because of some issue that extends from covid-19 policies. I'd have to get them delivered and picked up in Buffalo. I always find it strange that Paul from PS audio maintains that REL are the ones to beat but yet he himself will not make a sub that doesn't have servo technology. Even the mind behind Salk speakers buys the Rhythmik technology and make their own cabinets for them, actually slightly thicker at 1-in in thickness compared to the 3/4 of an inch thickness for Rhythmik's own.
@Jayiyagi
@Jayiyagi 3 жыл бұрын
@@mesonto Truth be told. servo is an easier way. The question should be why isn't Rel doing it if it's such a good method that beats it all? It isn't a patented unicorn technology after all !
@mesonto
@mesonto 3 жыл бұрын
@@Jayiyagi firstly I would have to believe that servo technology makes the cone react more accurately. Secondly, why would REL do anything when its present marketing is working and you don't have to add the extra expense? And REL is already more expensive than 80% of its competition.

Thujan, what do you use as a high-pass filter?
@ThujanK
@ThujanK 3 жыл бұрын
I use a 80hz high-pass filter and have a few ways of enabling it. I believe a good chunk of subwoofers have it built in. Otherwise I use an integrated amplifier like the Marantz Cr611 that has bass management or a mini dsp 2x4 where I can program a digital crossover for my subwoofer and speakers. I usually use it with bookshelves speakers to take the bass load away from their drivers and in my experience cleans up the sound (Reduces distortion, helps with subwoofer integration). With floor standers and/or fullrange speakers it's not as much needed. Hope that helps!

Just bought an HT1205 on the recommendation of my hi-fi store, but I'm finding it can't move enough air to pressurize my space (admittedly very large at ~1,000 sq-ft). It's bottoming out and distorting at family-friendly volumes. Not sure if I should buy a second one, move to a larger sub, or try to use the 1205 for "higher" musical bass over 30 Hz, and use a big ported sub to move the air for the subterrarian frequencies.
