Also, be careful if you’re tender headed! Due to low manipulation, once you go in for a reti it could hurt a bit. I ask my Loctitian to skip the last interlock rotation so it not right on my scalp and that helps. I’ll be 5 years sisterloc’d this November 🥰

i'm 3 months loc'd and TyKara's DIY video is what inspired me to install my own locs! if you are thinking about self-installing: do not get looc if you are a perfectionist. its okay if your locs aren't all identically sized but if those things are super important to you then this might not be the journey for you. i had to learn that those imperfections make my locs MINE. also do not get locs if you are impatient! i am at the point where my locs are unraveling which i expected because some parts of my hair are a looser texture but it can be very annoying to constantly have to re-twist my ends. it has got to the point where my loctitian suggested i tie my ends into tiny knots because the braiding method i did upon install was just not working on my hair even though i saw it was working for TyKara. you also need to be flexible and willing to pivot at the sign that something may not be working for you that has worked for someone else.

This set of locs is my 2nd set, I had traditional locs but for various reasons - I cut them. Personally I wanted locs again and most people told me I can't have locs again - that's why I did them myself plus I've tried everything with my hair and this style is my "last hope" because my hair is much thinner and not as full as it was when I was younger - I only have 214 locs so I totally don't mind doing my own maintenance. Plus I didn't do a grid but I grabbed and twisted. I am doing the 2 point rotation to get a little fullness. On the 25th of February, I would be 4 months loced. Best wishes

I am 5 months loc’d! I have 275 locs (I have fine hair). I would recommend people to know what condition their scalp is truly in prior to getting locs. We live in a society where beauticians don’t really aid you in your healthy scalp journey (my personal experience). They just want you to come washed and blowed dried as a loose natural. It took my loctician telling me what she saw on my scalp and me taking care of my own scalp now with my MicroLocs to see that I may have seborrheic dermatitis. I have been doing a lot of research and creating videos on my channel following my scalp health journey. I’m also going to the dermatologist on Monday to get an actually diagnosis. I have 210 locs. They are thick micro locs😊. I don’t have an issue with tangles. I have been diligent in wrapping my hair with a silk scarf or bonnet at night. I think rinsing my locs when I get into the shower has also helped keep lint out of my locs. I’m careful about the scarves and coat collars I wear during winter and fall, too. So these have not been issues for me. Of course my locs are short compared to yours. They rest at the bottom of my neck. One issue I have is the locs on my neck still curl up. I’m proud to say I’m 13 months loc’d. So, the need to be patient is something to consider before starting locs for sure.

I've been loc'd for 26 months. One thing you should know/understand before locing your hair is understanding your texture. Depending on the texture, you may need to get larger or smaller locs. My hair is soft and some of my locs thinned and had to be combined. My loctitan informed me that it's just my hair growing and forming, it wasn't anything I did. The thing is that are a decent size locs, it's just my hair doing its thing.

Your hair looks lovely, but NONE of you discuss how long the initial install took and how long retwist takes and how much retwist cost. I also want to know how to choose the right stylist. Lady up the street just opened a shop and wants me to come in for consultation. I have mid back permed hair and haven't had a perm in 6mon. 😫 My head looks like ground zero. 😫 Im pretty sure I want locs and want my hair cut down to new growth. I will not wear my hair out until it's at least shoulder length and I don't want those fluffy looking locs either. Many of these loc videos made me say I think I'll pass because I don't want my head looking like theirs and then I come across your video. Your hair looks ABSOLUTELY beautiful but I'd want them a little bigger. I'm thinking a retwist should be no more than 2hr. I can commit to that. Saw someone yesterday and her locs were bumpy looking, real bumpy looking. 😫 I see so many locs that I don't want and rarely see what I do want on others. I want my hair neat. I'd be devastated if I cut all my hair off for locs I absolutely hate. People will never let me live it down. People get mad when you cut off long hair and for locs. They will stay hidden under a wig and I'm telling nobody because I don't want to see the shock and disappointment on people's faces because I chose to have little worms on my head during the ugly stage that lasts for years. Hopefully wearing stocking caps under wig will train them worms to lay down. I keep imagining myself looking in the mirror and bursting into tears over my decision.
