Hello! Pennsylvania here. Just came across your video now. I got my M.Ed + K-4 teacher certificate back in 2019. I've been a teacher's aide, summer school teacher, intervention LTS, and most recently, had my own full contract Kindergarten classroom. I decided not sign a contract for this school year, but have been currently day to day subbing to stay busy. Recently, I've thought about going back to school to become a school counselor. Felt the same way during your "why I left the classroom" section of your video.

This was really informative. You have a wonderful personality and so funny with the intro, especially the students asking to change their schedule, they do do that. I’m a high school teacher now and I got a position as a school counselor, but to be frank I am worried I won’t make a difference as a counselor like I do as a teacher. As a teacher I get to know the students so much more. I also, have had students come in high to school with red eyes and all and have made them focus on school work and come sober and solve problems in their personal lives too. I just worry that as a counselor I’ll be pushing paperwork instead of actually engaging with the students. Do you make a difference? Maybe I can continue teaching in the summer to help out and be a counselor during the year. There are options and I’m grateful, but I just want to make a difference.

Hi! Did your master's degree require a thesis? I'm only a sophomore in undergrad, but I wanted to know if there were grad schools without one :). Also, tuning in from Ohio!

Yes but it was a very easy process. They walked students through it and gave us lots of help/feedback.

Hi I’m currently finishing up my bachelors in psychology at csusb and I want to do an online master to become a counselor do you have any online school you recommend? I’m 28 so I’m kind of want somthing fast I’m also a banker at Wells Fargo so we kind of have the same story lol. I would appreciate your help. Also I live in riverside California. Also if those programs are Cacrep. Any additional information would be helpful thank you

I’m not too familiar with schools in Cali but I’m confident you’ll find the right fit. Check with your university.☺️

hello! i know this video is old, but i have a question that you may know the answer too. it sounded like you said to the cacrep program so i don’t have to go back if i wanted to be a LPC. If i got my masters in school counseling at a CACREP accredited school, i wouldnt have to go back to school if i wanted to be a LPC??
@counselingwithmrb5 ай бұрын
Hi! Only if you complete a bridge program where you get your school counseling certification (degree) and simultaneously complete the courses needed for the LPC (mental health classes). It’s a dual program! Check with universities you’re interested in!

@@counselingwithmrb I have one question! The most important question, I’m from Sweden and I do not have family in USA. And my dream is to move to USA one day, do you think it is impossible for me to move to USA? because I’m 100% Swedish and I know that if you don’t have connections with USA, it is very hard to move to USA? Isn’t it? So I don’t know how USA government would approve me.. do you think I can move there? It would be awesome ❣️ but like I said, I don’t have a greencard or a American citizenship!

Hi, I am getting ready to attend college to study communication studies with a double minor in sociology and political science with a focus on civic engagement and leadership. School Counseling is a career I am interested in currently. Am I on the right track path? What communication classes are good for school counseling, especially ones that are related to interpersonal or more school leadership focus?

Sounds like a great path! Any classes with public speaking and organization will be great! Congrats!🎉🎉

Thank you for this video :)! I was thinking of going to a community college then transfer , what major do you recommend. As well as does this position require Both a bachelors and a masters or just a bachelors
@wickedfandom2 жыл бұрын
I’m currently going to school to be a school counselor. When I first enrolled at my local community college, my counselor recommended that I choose a major that could apply to a teacher for my bachelor’s degree, so I am an English major. However, you can choose history or math if you wish to instead. I would suggest talking to a counselor, which you need to do after enrolling because they help you with classes for your first semester. After I transfer and graduate, my goal is to get a master’s degree in educational counseling. If you choose to do so, you can also teach with your English degree while pursuing your MA. I have been told that gaining experience as a teacher can help you gain skills to become a better counselor. Plus, teachers will respect you more if you have been in their position before. I don’t know if that last part is true, but that is what I was told by someone who was a teacher. I hope this helps. :) The university that I’m transferring to has options to minor in children’s literature or writing as well, so that might be something to look into if you decide to major in English. I want to add children’s literature after I transfer in January.

Hello, Mr B- I am in the Dallas/ Ft Worth area. I am now a certified School Counselor. I teach 8th grade Spanish. I still have to receive my Masters in School Counseling. I am also retired bilingual teacher of 30 years. Yeah, I am old now. But there are still things I can do. Should I go to the mental health route first, as you did? I want to work with immigrant children, preferably for the government and work with the children in cages. I have joined a teacher's organization in El Paso. I want the immigrant children who are separated from their families, and placed in cages to know not all Americans are bad folks and we want to help them attain the better life their parents brought them to this country for. What else can I do to get to my goal? I really want to help these kiddoes. Thanks for your advice.
