Cool Again Restoration

Cool Again Restoration

Күн бұрын

In this video, I restored a rusty Skilsaw into a collector's item that you can win! The journey of this restoration began a few months ago when I was approached by SKIL Europe. In celebration of their 100th anniversary in March of this year, they requested that I restore a tool for them. They presented me with several old tools from their storage, and I chose to restore a circular saw. This choice was inspired by the fact that the story of SKIL began 100 years ago with the invention of the circular saw. For those interested in its history, I’ll include a link to the SKIL Europe website: www.skileurope....
The restoration process was challenging, involving numerous parts to refurbish. Some parts were missing and required me to fabricate new ones. The pressure was significant, as the restored tool needed to be sent back to SKIL Europe for presentation. This circular saw will be showcased at the EISENWARENMESSE - INTERNATIONAL HARDWARE FAIR 2024, which takes place from March 3-6, 2024, in Cologne, Germany. If you're interested in seeing this Skilsaw or visiting their booth, I encourage you to do so.
The stakes of the restoration were high, as SKIL plans to gift this tool to a lucky winner, necessitating a flawless finish. For those interested in entering the giveaway and signing up for their newsletter, here’s the link: winwithskil.co....
That's all for today dear viewers , I hope you enjoy this restoration video ! Cheers , David !

Wow! Giving an old tool new life is worth it's weight in gold. I restored my dad's very old Craftsman 3/8's drill. It didn't compare to today's tools but my making it new again brought my dad to tears as his father gave it to him as a Xmas gift 80 years ago. I made a stand for it so he could keep it in a holster. Plus I put on a new Jacob's chuck so if he needed to change a bit it was too easy. He kept it near the garage door on the cart, which I added an extension cord to. If he ever needed power near his rides, it was right there.

Glad ur back. My 6 yr old & I watch your videos. You are hands down the best. You’ve become the measuring stick we judge all other restoration videos. As an example it’s a little disappointing when we’re watching an otherwise good restoration video & the guy pulls out a can of spray paint. I tell him how he should be powder coating it like the other guy (you) does. Recently I’ve noticed that it appears as though you’ve reinvented into your channel with better equipment & tools. I would be pretty chuffed that Skil asked you to restore one of their veteran electrical products! You have amazed me in the past with your ability to create new parts and restore to shop floor standard so this is no exception. Can you tell me if you have a picture to go by when having to create missing parts? Anyway a superb job! Love your channel!🤗🇦🇺

Yeah , I try to make the missing parts from pictures I see on their other products. Otherwise I can’t make them 😊

Amazing work as usual and a below 20 minute video for all that work. 😀 I've never heard of this brand before. Seems like an excellent company.

Thanks a lot and glad you enjoyed 😊 they are not the best tool company but they made and still make very good tools. I have some from them and I’m pretty thankful with 👍

Why you call it restoration? You keep making parts instead of restoring.

So glad you are up and about after your recent health issues. The video is great, but a bonus. I would have been happy with an update that you are well. THAT being said... Great job on this resto! And what an honor to have Skil approach you for this 😁 Looking forward to more content... meanwhile, take care of yourself. As you see, your viewers are all here for you, should you ever need time off. 👍

Amazing work, as ever! I’m curious why you don’t use a parting tool instead of a hacksaw to remove pieces from your lathe. Only curious, not critique. I too am happy at your recovery. Well done sir!

Thanks a lot mate ! sometimes I use a parting tool but I broke them very quickly and good stuff is only on outside of my country and usually I have to wait for shipping . They have the bad habit to broke before I have to work with them on camera 😅

Absolutely fantastic restoration! I'd wager it's better than new! How great that they asked you too, must have felt wonderful knowing they trusted you enough to approach you. I'd love to see it in person, sadly getting to Germany is much more difficult thanks to Brexit, so I'll just have to admire it from afar! I look forward to seeing what knife you make out of that old blade though, should be very interesting!

You can use regular all-purpose WD-40 spray (blue and yellow color one) to give back the factory rubber sheen to the rubber grommet/strain relief of the electric wire on the skill saw I used it on my C-13 Power cable for my laptop and it is as good as new to the touch and appearance. Spray the WD-40 on the electrical wire and lube it on the wire for its whole wire length live it for the night and you are good to go from the next day onwards. Like you are using oil to lube the machine rod with your fingers. Needles to say wash your hands with soap after you are done before you have dinner and go to sleep for the night.

My father used a Skilsaw identical to that to build our family cabin in the 1960s. Somehow, I let the saw get away from me. I wish I had it back. I still have the cabin. Sorry. His was all white tone. No black.

This is a good job 👍 But, in beginning it says motor not working... so just by cleaning the outside of it, it suddenly works again ? Also normal people dont have all these machines to make new parts, but still they restore and make em look brand new.. I also does this, but only use orginal parts, and fix up the old parts. I dont say its bad what you do, cause it looks great 👍 but this is more a rebuild with new parts, than a restore project.

Hi ! First of all , the circular saw didn’t worked and I thought because of the motor but I found that some wires wasn’t attached well and some was very rusty , probably they didn’t made a good contact . Some people maybe don’t have the tools I have but these videos are for relaxing and watching the work . I don’t pretend to be the most knowledgeable man or a professional. I just do some work how I know and how I can and I try my best every time 😬
