Answers the question of "how did this thing looked and worked when it was new". Some stuff from about 100 years ago was pretty complex technology. Hand cranked and otherwise human powered machines tend to be quite interesting.

I love seeing the different approaches between you and your restoration "colleagues" here on youtube - The slight differences are interesting, especially seeing how you all end up with amazing results. Another factor I love, is seeing all the different kinds of old equipment; Items that aren't made anymore, not to mention the rugged quality of stuff made to last, compared to our modern plastic equivalents, is really cool. Can't wait to see all the projects you have to share in the future! Thank you, and good luck in the next ones!

wonderful restoration! the handle crank looks like it was cast, I've heard that cast iron needs to be pre-heated before it can be safely welded, does this matter for a small object like this where the entire section is heated by the welding or did you pre heat it off screen? I really like that you added a brass core so that you didn't have to remake the wooden handle.

Question.... when you use the lathe and take a little off a part, does this not make a difference when if goes back together?
@jamedatkinson5942 жыл бұрын
Had a hard time enjoying the rest of video after watching this. Should have spray welded it to build up metal. Then turned it down to right size. Just because it looks good does not mean it was done right. I am being very critical but this is what they do for a job.
@CoolAgainRestoration2 жыл бұрын
Hi @I’m right you’re wrong! Normally yes but depend where that part goes after. In my case, that parts was not damaged if I take it a little of material. I read it what Jamed wrote and he has right. But not in this case. Where needed to remove some material ( I removed to the gear where the handle is attached) for making it smaller and to can add a bush after. I attached the bush to the handle and after that they fit perfectly.
@imrightyourewrong62742 жыл бұрын
@@CoolAgainRestoration thanks 👍🏼
@whatdoyouthinktodd2 жыл бұрын
@@CoolAgainRestoration I'm going to say BS you removed material off the shaft on the first gear which made it smaller It is now not going to fit as intended by the manufacturer You're just playing wrong admit it yeah you have nice tools but you certainly don't know what you're doing when it comes to machining or at least you don't know about allowable tolerances I don't know maybe they do something different on the other side of the world but I've been machining parts for over 30 years in states and not how it works here if you do something like that here it's called a Chicago rebuild maybe you should have just painted the damn thing and sent it on its way would have been tighter.

Hi Bob and glad you liked it. 5 minutes ago I talked on what’s app with a subscriber from 🇺🇸 USA . He told me about that sentence . He was grow up in Europe and now he live in USA and told me there is not the same sense of humour like here. I don’t say there is bad and here is good. Just is different. No offence to any wife or women, I love my wife and 5 months ago she gave me a beautiful daughter but here we can make jokes about us.

@@CoolAgainRestoration Congratulations on becoming a Dad! Agree that humor is different from place to place. Looking at how things start, such as why the married man cheated on his wife, or say how did the once loving marriage fail, it seems that it didn’t just happen suddenly but came about over time, lots of small things,little things that didn’t seem to matter. That’s why I made the comment. All the best,Bob
