In the 90’s punishments were less severe for lower enlisted. Senior enlisted and officers got the toughest punishments because they ‘know better’.

Sexual harassment is a career killer. The Army's policy is "guilty until proven innocent". My roommate would be the first one to admit he screwed up by rough housing with a female member of the company softball team, in private, with no witnesses. He left a mark on her butt and while she had no problem with it, her girlfriend saw it and reported him. He was offered a chapter action with an honorable discharge or court martial which, if convicted, he'd be going to Leavenworth. He chose the chapter.

As someone who worked with EO and SHARP this are too common. I can gladly say that I help prove false claims and help soldiers keep careers. Biggest violators are members of the alphabet community which also had highest rate of domestic violence sexual assault cases

Kind of long but hopefully worth the read, @@JG-yc2fr: I was a counterintelligence 1SG headquartered in Augsburg, Germany but with offices spread all over Europe including one in Stuttgart. We had a requirement for every soldier to go through ConOps training to qualify them for deployment to Bosnia. The classroom was next to my office there in Augsburg so all these soldiers had to come TDY for the class. One soldier who’s white and assigned to the office in the Netherlands, I’ll call him Adams, had requested to defer training to the next class so he could sign for his household goods which would be delivered during the upcoming class. He explained that he was newly wed and his wife was a civilian with no experience with moving so he wanted to be there personally. Because he asked a few weeks before the class and we had enough students to keep the class going, I granted his request. Another soldier who’s black, we’ll call him Baker, was assigned to the Stuttgart office. He had been delaying and evading training because he didn’t want to deploy. After I finally got him to show up for ConOps he learned that Adams had been pushed to the next class because of the household goods situation. Baker said his household goods are also being delivered and he wanted out of the class . . again. I asked if his wife could sign for the delivery. He explained that while she was also active duty that her unit wasn’t supporting her and her sponsor, who’s responsible for helping her with integrating into the unit, was useless. I told him that this was the first I’d heard of this, that he was already here and we couldn’t have any more drops from the class or they might cancel it. She’d have to go through her unit to be there for the delivery. He stormed out of the office and went over to the barracks. Later, I noticed him periodically going over to battalion headquarters. I explained that all business comes through the company and if he has any issues, it comes to me first and asked if there was anything he needed help with. He said, “No”, and didn’t want to discuss anything. Later that afternoon, our EO rep who’s black, let’s call him SSG Chambers came to my office with SFC Davis who’s also black but I’d never seen before. SSG Chambers explained that he was being inspected this week by his superior, SFC Davis, from Stuttgart who would be sitting in on the interview. OK, so I ask what’s going on and he explains that Baker has filed a discrimination complaint against me because I wouldn’t let him out of the class because he’s black. I went on to explain the whole situation above and how we had bought Baker up from Stuttgart for the class when SFC Davis interrupted. The conversation when something like this: Davis, “Wait a minute. Baker’s not from Augsburg?” Me, “No, he’s based out of our Stuttgart office.” Davis, “Can I borrow your phone, 1SG?” (Cell phones were not common at this time) SFC Davis picks up the receiver and dials a number from memory. That conversation was something to the effect of: Davis, “Hey, its me. That new soldier in the unit, did you say her name was Baker.” (Davis listens) Davis, “Is her husband assigned to the CI office there?” (Davis listens) Davis, “What’s she doing this week?” (Davis listens) Davis, “Mailroom? Is there any reason she can’t sign for household goods this week?” (Davis listens) Davis, “Yeah, I’ll be back tonight. Love you”. Davis puts down the receiver, glares at Chambers and says, “My wife is Baker’s wife’s sponsor. Let’s go find him!” The case was obviously dropped but only because of an incredible coincidence.

It’s good that the Army is trending more towards zero-tolerance for drugs, domestic abuse and DUIs. Soldiers operate all kinds of potentially dangerous equipment-not just firearms. I’ve been a nurse for 16 years, and in order to work you must have an unrestricted nursing license from the state you work in. Since RNs are meant to help the injured and ill, it stands to reason that we don’t want nurses practicing who increase the likelihood of someone getting injured-say, by driving drunk, or being impaired at work where a mistake has the potential to lead to serious harm or death. Even if your license is simply suspended and/or fined…you can start looking for a new job.

In 77 I was a SP5 on CQ duty with 5th AG Co at Polk. I worked at base personnel. Late on a Friday night the MP's walked in with my branch NCOIC who we called MSG Mac, in custody for DUI on post. I had to call the OD, a new 2LT who worked across the hall from our branch, who showed up a few minutes later. The MPs left him in the custody of the 2LT. The 2LT and MSG Mac left shortly after that. I never mentioned that incident to anyone in the company. I don't know what happened, but MSG Mac came to work on Monday and was still there when I ETSd in 78. I suspect he got an ass chewing and the DUI went away.

Says he wasn’t worried as his dad owned a carpeting company that he can go work at and make 100k right away. From what i heard, he not only got kicked out of the army, it took months to get out and by then, his dad wasn’t willing to hire a felon even if it was his own son.

Got into a fight we an E4 it was a pretty bad fist fight. That’s all it took 2 years in and I lost my entire dream of making the army into a career because I got into a fist fight with an asshole. Never got an article 15 or negative counseling in my 2 years. You don’t have to do something big like drugs or SH to lose your career just one simple mistake and a CO who’s out to get you to ruin your life. Even with an under honorable conditions ( general ) discharge trying to find work and not having people think your some type of criminal or failure is difficult my life will never be the same all because I got into a heated argument and got into a fight with someone one rank above me

We had formations before every weekend with the same speech if you drink don't drive if you drive don't drink and every weekend some one got a DUI. Which being in Germany with taxis every where and mass transit was really stupid . The people who all got popped for it we're leaving clubs around 3 to 4 am .busses and subway usually ran until 12 or 1 am after that just split a cab with 3 or 4 people and it was only a couple of bucks or marks a piece .

I'm just curious, when it comes to drug testing does the Army still have the "Amnesty Policy" or has it been done away with? In my unit in Germany we called it the "Confessonal" Back when I was in the Army from 1989-1992, the policy was that if a solider knew they would come up red and was drug tested and they went to their C.O. either before the test or before the results came back and admitted to having drugs in their system, they could not be punished and the C.O. had to take steps to place the solider in a drug treatment program etc. Just curious if that is still the policy?

Back in the 70's DUI no problem, would not even have any action taken by your command, Early 80's still no problem, just get a letter of reprimand, Late 80's they started busting people, but not always. Still was not a career killer. By the Mid 90's if you got a DWI you would get an Article 15 for sure. They were even reducing senior NCO's in rank. Lower ranks could still soldier their way back, but if you were a senior NCO you got reduced at no chance of ever getting the rank back. Officers were automatically separated (Unless they were a Lt Col or above). Coming up hot on a piss test was much the same in the early 80's, you would get busted, but if you soldiered out of it you could still finish a career. By the mid 80's unless you were a lower rank you were completely toast and kicked out after a reduction in rank. That means if you were an officer or NCO you were automatically gone. No if's and's or but's. Nowadays the military is much more selective on who they retain. They do not have time for dirtbags, druggies, or drunks.

You would have to go by what your legal last name is. The name that is on your identification, like a drivers license or social security card would be the name you would go by. If that is not the name you want to go by, then you would have to go and legally change it.

I’m gonna need a prior service waiver & moral waiver to get into the army bc the police literally stiffed me with a 9 count indictment for a firearm I legally owned and traffic violations. They literally tried to lie on me in court even with the video they tried changing my words literally lying like it wasn’t on video. And the judge literally was gonna sentence me the bailiff even told me he was scared for me when speaking to meme afterwards. By the grace of God I got on the stand and beat the felonies but they convicted me on misdemeanors I should’ve also beat.

Hi Chris. This is true on black and white and that’s how it should be. Sadly in my 4 years in the Army, I’ve seen domestic violence, DUI double and triple offenders, sex with a minor (13-14year old which I think is considered rape given the no consent implied). Those individuals have received punishments, rank reductions, extra duty but sadly they’re still on the Army.
