What a great pair of cats, and of course they shouldn't be separated. I adopted an older pair of cats like that too. They were too bonded to separate, so they were adopted out together. Squeaky and Dez were so cute together. The slept together constantly and also groomed each other. Dez was a chunky calico, and Squeaky a slim and very anxious long hair black cat. Squeaky just worshiped the ground that Dez walked on, but was nervous around people. It was hilarious to see the way they acted. Nothing phased Dez, she was so sedate, and then their was Squeaky's adorable neuroticism. Sqeaky would squawk for attention, but when you reached for her, she'd cower in fear or run half the time. It used to make Ron laugh so hard. She would come and lay on us on her own terms. i guess we were safer if we were laying down or something. I can't describe the hero worship she had for Dez though. She just looked at Dez w/ utter adoration and Dez was her ultimate happy place.

I’m so happy to see someone as kind and patient as you with an obviously frightened little creature. Some people are just insistent that the cat has to immediately warm up to them. And if they are frightened and hiss and puff up their fur, they think the cat is aggressive and a mean cat. They don’t think that ALL living creatures need a little time to feel comfortable with their new surroundings. Like people, we all come to every “relationship” with a history. Good and bad. Cats, Dogs, Horses etc! We all need “someone” we can bond with. And you were so wonderful using the stick to gently touch Grey and talk tenderly with him. Letting him find his own way. And discovering his new friend was such a blessing for both of them. It’s just beautiful. Just absolutely beautiful 😻

I worked with a cat like that for 18 months. He had been surrendered because his elderly owner had to go into assisted living. He was so traumatized by the whole surrender. He was so aggressive he bit a volunteer who needed stitches. No one could even remove food from his cage or change his litter box. I sat outside his cage for months on end, not looking at him and just talking out loud. It was such slow progress, but eventually he came out of the cage, although he ran back in as soon as I looked at him. It got to the point, finally, where he jumped on my lap and allowed me to pet him. Eventually, he was adopted into a really good home.

It took me 2 months once to get through to an abandoned cat who felt so unsure and betrayed by people. I did it by feeding them and then leaving them alone, no pressure, but I spent as much time as possible out in the yard so they could observe me and it helped a lot. The kitty “came with” a house I rented. She stayed in yard, front and back but mainly in the back, fenced yard. After she accepted me I got her into a good cat rescue. ❤

Oh, I loved this so much! I've had a couple of fosters like Grey...and it was definitely a slow, steady process to gain trust. Incidentally, _both_ of those challenging fosters *also* ended up flourishing when they met what turned out to be their "kitty soul mates"...and it was among my top most wonderful things to watch. Of course, when it came time to find their (always fervently hoped-for) forever homes, they were adopted out as bonded pairs. _ps: May light and joy be with you and yours always. Thank you for what you do. Fostering is hard, but also incredibly fulfilling._ 💖

Brilliantly well done, on all fronts. Yes, it is true, "some cats will be saved, and some not", because there are lots of feral cats out there and resources are limited, and we have to be practical about what can be done and what, reasonably speaking, cannot. You persevered and were inspired to introduce Philly Pokey (great name, btw), and you also understand that both Grey and Philly Pokey will be adopted as a pair, which makes complete sense. I'm humbled by your experience, your compassion, and your level-headed assessments of what can be reasonably be done in cases like these. Keep up the great work!

We have a grumpy cat that hissed and growled at everything... except her kitten brother. We had to keep them together, but he died of a kidney disease... its taken her a while to warm up to the new addition we adopted from the shelter, but its definitely not the same bouncing off the walls playing at all hours of the day relationship anymore.

I lived in Kuwait for almost two years... Never saw a place with so many stray cats! Normally they are very friendly... I rescued two cats in that time. One went to my home in Portugal and the other went to a friend's home in India. You did a great action! Normally they won't survive more than 4-5 years in the streets. Its a very hard environment where temperatures can rise to 55°C in summer.

Bop told Grey that Jen was one of them and she could be trusted and Grey was flabbergasted. And then Bop told Grey that he should make friends with Philly Pokey because they seemed perfect for each other. So that's what Grey did after Jen introduced him to Philly Pokey. And now Grey snuggles with Philly Pokey and Jen, too, because now Grey knows that Jen's OK after all.

They're so precious but I REALLY wish those sweet boys didn't have to go through another traumatic experience with moving into yet another home. They don't understand that they're in foster care and they have given their hearts to their current caretaker. While I understand being able to "foster fail" isn't possible all the time, in this case there is no way I could let them go, they would be MINE. And that is why I can no longer foster cats. 😄
