@@canadianfactvideos3439 Victoria occasionally scores warmer concurrent winter seasons than Dallas, Texas. That's a VERY catchy fact (I think so, anyway!). OR, if you'd like to do a video about Canada's mildest towns and locations - not just its major cities - I can "dig up" for you Canadian locations that even more frequently score warmer concurrent winter seasons than Dallas, Texas. Please reply if you'd like me to provide all the necessary proof (official government sources; Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion calculator; etc., etc....). I'll leave you with no doubt!

@@canadianfactvideos3439 Reply 1 of 3 First, I’ll provide you with a few definitions to make sure we’re on the same page. Meteorologists define winter season as (December 1 - February 28) OR (December 1 - February 29) in leap years! So when they say we’ve had a mild winter, they mean the continuous period from (December 1 - February 28) was mild. It is, in fact, called a “meteorological winter season”. Meteorologists prefer to use the meteorological winter season because they are unvarying in the end dates and are essential for comparison purposes. Also - by definition, a winter season has been warmer in City A than City B if it “scored” a warmer overall mean (average temperature - averaged between lows and highs) through the course of the winter. Now that that’s all out of the way, we’ll go to the official government historical records (next message!).

Osoyoos?? Why isn't it listed? Osoyoos has a average annual temperature of 17 degrees, Victoria 15.3?? Doesn't make sense
@scholarlyanalyst77003 жыл бұрын
First of all, even if Osoyoos' average annual high temperature is warmer than Victoria, that does not make it warmer overall. To truly nail this point across with an extreme example, let's compare the month of August in Alice Springs, Australia to August in Lighthouse Point (in the Greater Vancouver area). It does not matter that's winter in Australia! We're comparing to make a point! Alice Springs, Australia has an average August low temperature of 6C with avg high temp of 23C. Point Atkinson, on the other hand, has avg August hi temp of 22C (which is slightly cooler than Alice Springs!) with lo temp of 17C (MUCH warmer low temp!). So, to round things off, Point Atkinson has an overall average August temperature that's roughly 20C (versus an average of roughly 15C in Alice Springs). I PROMISE you people will think Point Atkinson is much warmer in August than Alice Springs! The logic is straight-forward. Alice Springs will be over 20C for a split moment in time. It will be almost imperceptible. Then the temperature nose-dives until it's almost winter like. That means that all during the sunny August mornings leading into the early afternoon, it will be much cooler (for all that time) in Alice Springs than Point Atkinson. So you see. Alice Springs peaks almost imperceptibly higher at its peak, but the rest of the day and night is much cooler than Pt. Atkinson. That's why meteorologists use average temperatures when comparing places. It's called a weighted-average! Secondly, the video was discussing the warmest locations in WINTER. While it's true the winters are a little bit warmer in Osoyoos and Oliver than they are in Kelowna, which was on his list, maybe he left out the small towns? After all - Osoyoos has a very marginal population!

Windsor ON would be warmer than Toronto though southern Ontario can have muggy hot summers and nights don't cool off much meaning that mean temperatures can stay quite high until September and even not bad in October, and the summer is long. Ottawa and Montreal get a hot summer although a colder winter than Toronto though the other three seasons are about the same. Quebec City is cooler than Montreal though still in the range - autums are reasonably long in Southern Ontario/Quebec with not bad weather lasting even well into November although it drops quickly into cold late November/December Lethbridge and Medicine Hat Alberta have decent daytime highs on averages from March to November and not that bad a winter, with chinooks coming and going. Calgary is a bit cooler than these though in the same domain. The nights can get very chilly or cold in Alberta, however and the days can soar way up. The frost free season is not long at all. Abbotsford is in fact very warm with a mild winter, early spring, really warm summer and a long fall. The East Okanagan though hot can cool more quickly into the fall although up until Dec is not bad weather at all and Vancouver/Victoria have a mild winter although a not too hot summer - lots of shoulder season and a long frost free season. The prairies have a long early winter often in November until late March or sometimes April and a hot summer though not that long - however the heat is a dry sort and lifts at night more though the frost free season is short. In Northern Canada some inland places can get quite good summers and late spring weather although falls get cold quickly into October. And there are lots of blackflies in the summer, although there are on the prairies aswell Atlantic Canada has milder winters although it can get lots of sloppy weather (snow, rain and changing conditions and fluctuating temperatures with snow becoming rain and then refreezing. Though rarely very cold for long in most places - the weather can be tough on cars
