I'm so glad I found you guys. It's just me and NEED to remove the carpet in my Lord Thaddeus Blaze's room a.k.a cat (my Fur baby) . He loses too much fur and the my vacuum was not keeping up. So I knew I had to remove the carpet. I have some questions. Why did cover the floor with a small piece while tapping it? What wear those black things that were on the base board? Thank a again for making this easy to follow videos on the DIY carpet, inlay & vinyl floor install. SAVED MY POCKET. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!

The black things are called spacers. We used a small piece because it fits into the larger piece of flooring.

Hi, thank you for the video. It is very helpful. I plan to do a diy project in my room. Can i place the vynl floor above the engineered wood flooring that is currently there? If yes, should i place a underlayment or fix vynl floor directly.

Yes, you can place vinyl flooring over engineered wood. You will need an oscillating tool for the door jambs because of the height difference. You may not need underlayment because the engineered wood would act as underlayment, but you may choose to install underlayment because it also works as a sound barrier. Hope this helps.

You have to do your calculations based on the brand of flooring you choose and how many come in a box. Most boxes have them on the side.

What a great video.Edit: what kind of underlayment did you put down in your son's room? I want to do this in my living room, kitchen, and dining room BUT my fireplace (the hearth) is at a corned wall, (catty-cornered) so that's what scares me. If it was all square I wouldn't hesitate. Thank you both.

It is easier to remove carpet so do it one step at a time with a sharp box cutter (utility knife).

I’m doing a small 40sq ft area in my bathroom. The planks I bought already come with underlayer attached. I shouldn’t need to buy a separate underlayer, correct? Not sure if you would know.

If you are installing them over tile you don't really need another underlayment.
