She has trained to be an astronaut since the 60s as part of the Mercury 13 program. She’s not just any lady or just any 82-year-old. She fought for this and trained for this for decades. She is an icon, and I’m so glad she was finally able to realize her lifelong dream!

Interestingly: You don't actually become an astronaut until you go into "space" the first time. It's kind of an altitude marker thing, I guess.

@hekatoncheiros2082 жыл бұрын
Only on the right arm. The flag is shown with the staff end forwards, as if it is flying back. You’ll see it reversed on the right side of aircraft, boats and vehicles, and on military uniforms. Other countries do it too.

This was a publicity stunt and a joke. For God's sake look at how perfect the parachutes were spread out when it landed listen to them Wahoo as they see the Earth from above for the first time where most people would be speechless not screening Wahoo wahoo. Look inside the capsule when it finally lands had he already removed his helmet because I never seen a helmet the whole way down and the picture was hd-quality very close to the capsule but when you got close enough to actually look inside it looked like a dummy in a blue suit which either way it was accept this dummy was either a Library owner who went to space with the little old librarian or a big gimmick publicity stunt

How are they astronauts? Did not reach orbit, did not pilot anything.
@gabm.34752 жыл бұрын
They didnt go in orbit put they did go in outer space anything over 100km is consider space . The reality his most astronautes don't really pilot anything when going into space it's mostly auto pilot. I do agree with the point of view that most of them didn't do alot to be called astronautes, but in theory it's the appropriate name to use. Based on the Oxford definition an astronaute is anyone who's trained to travel in a spacecraft. I personally don't believe calling them astronautes devalues the title, it simply signify that what people have been working on for decades is becoming what they hoped, space his becoming more accessible and as much as I dislike the company's owner it's unfair to downplay the legitimacy of what those people are part of.
