If the chef is unhappy the crew are unhappy. When the chef is good and willing to accommodate the different likes and dislikes of a crew, that makes the entire ship company happy. Big point is how clean the place is very important particularly getting different foods on board from all ports. Great video.

Believe it or not. The only position on a ship that MUST be filled before sailing, is that of ships cook with the certificate to prove it. You can get a time and distance waiver from the authorities for Capt., Chief., even Doctor, but not cook!!

Good food promotes good morale, keeps crew working hard. Its not just the nutritional value of the food, but keeps the crew happy on those long days and weeks at sea. Their only diversion is their food and their books and videos/DVDs. I love indian food. The potatoes and cauliflower curry is so good. Chicken curry. Love persian food too. Kebabs and basmati rice with saffron with fire roasted tomatoes. To die for. Oh i would work on the ship just to get a steady diet of this wonderful chef's cooking.

love the cook. what a cool guy. seems very friendly, very educational. ironically, it is the galley that is likely the least understood parts of the ship for most people. it is also good to note that the store room and food will be stocked significantly different from ship to ship. For Jones Act US ships where crew is fully American, you can expect the food and stores to be what you would find normally in USA.

Great video. Thanks. I spent most of my time at sea on a large cruise liner eating from a reduced passenger menu. It was ok, yes, just okay. I spent 4 months on a cargo ship that carried 12 passengers. British Officers, Indian crew. I have never eaten so well in my life !!! Every meal was restaurant quality, there was always at least 1 or 2 British dishes, on the day that roast beef was served, that is what all the staff ate, and thoroughly enjoyed. The Chef even did his own Haggis on Scottish occasions. Always superb . The following day he would serve curried haggis. The Chef was a genius !! The Chef on a ship, no matter its size, can make or break a crews morale . Again, great work on the video. Thank you!

God Bless you and all the crew on these ships. The world depends upon your hard work to bring all the things that modern living requires, and WE ARE GRATEFUL for it. It is hard, but slowly, the living standards of everyone in the world will be raised. For today, human beings send ships across the oceans, but tomorrow, human beings will send ships between the stars. It is the same human spirit of adventure and hard work and love and care for our families "back home" that drives them both.

I like to color chart for the cutting boards. Having a freezer alarm is a great thing to have. Years ago when I worked in a grocery store bakery. I use to get stuck in the big walk in freezer by a nasty co worker. We had no alarm for the freezer. You just knock and yell.

For those wondering the difference between a convection oven and a conventional oven. Convection has a fan to distribute heat more evenly. Genius right? "Its supersonic"

Thanks for filming and sharing this. Seeing the ship kitchen and food prepared for cooking is fascinating. In stormy weather with rough seas, I'm guessing the cooks would avoid using the deep fryer for menu items like chips and nuggets for safety reasons, with the ship swaying and oil motion in the fryer vats?

lol In the American offshore oilfield Sunday is chicken day we always have fried chicken, red beans and rice, corn, mashed potato's stuff like that, Saturday and Tuesday would be steak day we have ribeye's grilled on BBQ, hamburgers baked potato's other vegetable's and I want to say seafood day I think was Friday with shrimp and fish and fry's, Christmas was sometimes king crab depending on contractor! Wow on Salary we used to make like 500+ a week after tax for a Galleyhand like 20 years ago for oilfield contracts!

It's said that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach ! If a Chief Cook can achieve this, then he would be the most loved person on board 😊. Both the cooks had a pleasant demeanour and that should earn them some extra brownie points. Established companies provide fleet personnel with both good quality and quantity of food items and an experienced cook should be able to make best use of it. Credit goes for the galley staff as they ensure food, soup included, still comes to the table even in the roughest of seas. Catering to different nationalities on board would mean that the Chief Cook needs to update himself to satisfy all types of tummies. The 'worth' of a contract is also measured by the quality of food that was served and if it was good, then that Chief Cook would be remembered forever.
