As someone who's been suffering with acne since I was 12, I've hated my face so much. I hated my oily skin so much I used the skincare products my mom would buy because it "worked" for her. It destroyed my moisture barrier, sensitized my skin and the acne. I couldn't forget the time I used the wrong product on my face, it burned so bad and left horrible marks. I was called an old hag by someone who was much older than me. Now I became more educated on skincare and bought products suitable to my face which helped me slowly. The video reminds me of my younger self unaware of the harm I did to my own face. This showed how much we are desperate for beauty, harming ourselves in the process. P.S. Always patch test.

@@caesarsalad493Yea it pretty much spells that out for you at the end of the video when it does the text information on the screen. Either it implies that somehow this company was able to hack her computer and information to change what it said she ordered (which is unlikely). OR, the most likely meaning is that she was extremely mentally unstable and desperate for subscribers (since it says at the end that she literally only had 8 subscribes) and the dream of being a beauty “vlogger” so she resorted to this delusional, nearly lethal, unheard of idea to try and go viral and get views and live her dream. The foreshadow line of "It would be amazing if this peel would get rid of everything" was spot on. Love film where a single actress can carry the load and Julia Bailey Johnson nailed that subtle desperation and even mental illness angle. There is a certain level of creepiness when we do extreme behaviors to chase likes and subscribers. This short addressed that. The special effects and the progression was excellent and thumbs up to A. Shields. Great work. Julia Bailey Johnson delivers a superb modern horror short with a creepy vibe where you feel what's coming but still can't look away. That ending was slick too. Thanks to all involved Peace.

Spoilers if you haven't finished watching/watched it yet: After re-watching this video I've noticed something (wether intentional or not) at 2:21 she says "I can't help you!" May be subtle hint to the fact that she, herself is the one who made sous. And in the beginning when she unboxes 'Sous' and says the face is 'eeeehh' or distorted on the container may be a disturbing foreshadowing to what happens to her face nearing the end and ending of the video. And how she also says she wishes the peel could take EVERYTHING off, I guess it really did.

i can't believe none of the top comments are talking about the top-tier social commentary going on here. it's almost as if it missed its target audience by just a hair...what i personally love so much about this film is kalley's blatant self-hatred. even from the outset of the video all she can do is apologize for her fine lines and discoloring. you can tell that she is a victim of the beauty industry's desire to make us all hate ourselves into consuming. and yet, despite her extreme pain and reaction to the product, she feels compelled to continue the process, acting normal and remaining cheery, even believing the "bad stuff is coming to the surface" when she has boils and blisters on her face, because she has clearly internalized the message that beauty is pain. to me, the film's message isn't so much "this is so realistic, i could see it happening to someone i know" - it's more like, "wow, this is a blatant satirization of a direction that our current world is taking due to fucked-up standards and systems of power". it's actually quite an anti-capitalist and anti-patriarchal film. it's like black mirror but for beauty gurus.

even worse is that this is already happening. Not as bad as what's depicted in the short but young girls are already getting chemical burns from using beauty products excessively. when i say young girls i mean 9-10 year old girls. They're using chemicals meant for adults because they think they need it to be beautiful. It's horrible :(
