Honestly the actresses performance is what really sells this. That hidden panic in her voice is really well done, the way she tries to keep it together but you can tell she's freaking out is so jaw and relatable. If the acting were bad it wouldn't hold up as well.

As someone who burned their own face with skincare products, this honestly is terrorfying. Achne at least is natural; a scarred face is not. And the funny thing is? I talked to a friend years later, and she told me she never even noticed my achne. Social media portrays everyone with perfect skin, perfect proportions, perfect everything. Just remember that each and every one of you is beautiful.

i agree with you totally on this one, i never got acne on my face but my back was always so awful, i had friend that i never noticed they had acne asked me my face routine and it was eye-opened to cause sometimes we focus so much in our own insecurities and people literally have no idea of those and we can suffer a lot because of it (my back now has scars that may be permanent but i don't complain anymore)

this is genuinely one of the most creative horror shorts ive ever seen, since there's no big monster or villain, just a woman making a horrible choice for herself, and it still manages to be horrifying. everything from the set to the acting to even the editing was incredibly similar to a real makeup tutorial. the gore was really fun. her peeling off the dead skin made my stomach turn. instant horror fave

As someone who's been suffering with acne since I was 12, I've hated my face so much. I hated my oily skin so much I used the skincare products my mom would buy because it "worked" for her. It destroyed my moisture barrier, sensitized my skin and the acne. I couldn't forget the time I used the wrong product on my face, it burned so bad and left horrible marks. I was called an old hag by someone who was much older than me. Now I became more educated on skincare and bought products suitable to my face which helped me slowly. The video reminds me of my younger self unaware of the harm I did to my own face. This showed how much we are desperate for beauty, harming ourselves in the process. P.S. Always patch test.

@@caesarsalad493Yea it pretty much spells that out for you at the end of the video when it does the text information on the screen. Either it implies that somehow this company was able to hack her computer and information to change what it said she ordered (which is unlikely). OR, the most likely meaning is that she was extremely mentally unstable and desperate for subscribers (since it says at the end that she literally only had 8 subscribes) and the dream of being a beauty “vlogger” so she resorted to this delusional, nearly lethal, unheard of idea to try and go viral and get views and live her dream. You’d think that would sound so unrealistic but considering what people have done to try and be famous, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like this actually happen in real life.

Plus, not to mention the way she was so chill about her face slowly peeling away and permanently maiming her entire face and seemed reasonably calm and not even upset about her “new skin reveal” lmao so yes her character very much was mentally unstable and it was heavily implied that she set this whole thing up entirely.

This is actually terrifying. The foreshadow line of "It would be amazing if this peel would get rid of everything" was spot on. Love film where a single actress can carry the load and Julia Bailey Johnson nailed that subtle desperation and even mental illness angle. There is a certain level of creepiness when we do extreme behaviors to chase likes and subscribers. This short addressed that. The special effects and the progression was excellent and thumbs up to A. Shields. Great work. Julia Bailey Johnson delivers a superb modern horror short with a creepy vibe where you feel what's coming but still can't look away. That ending was slick too. Thanks to all involved Peace.

May be subtle hint to the fact that she, herself is the one who made sous. And in the beginning when she unboxes 'Sous' and says the face is 'eeeehh' or distorted on the container may be a disturbing foreshadowing to what happens to her face nearing the end and ending of the video. And how she also says she wishes the peel could take EVERYTHING off, I guess it really did.

i can't believe none of the top comments are talking about the top-tier social commentary going on here. it's almost as if it missed its target audience by just a hair...what i personally love so much about this film is kalley's blatant self-hatred. even from the outset of the video all she can do is apologize for her fine lines and discoloring. you can tell that she is a victim of the beauty industry's desire to make us all hate ourselves into consuming. and yet, despite her extreme pain and reaction to the product, she feels compelled to continue the process, acting normal and remaining cheery, even believing the "bad stuff is coming to the surface" when she has boils and blisters on her face, because she has clearly internalized the message that beauty is pain. to me, the film's message isn't so much "this is so realistic, i could see it happening to someone i know" - it's more like, "wow, this is a blatant satirization of a direction that our current world is taking due to fucked-up standards and systems of power". it's actually quite an anti-capitalist and anti-patriarchal film. it's like black mirror but for beauty gurus.

This is a god damn masterclass in building tension: every time the screen went black I was filled with dread. And it’s funny! Stuff that’s actually funny and actually scary at the same time is rare. Looking forward to more of your work!

Can I just say? Thank you to all the commenters who left misleading comments in the comment section. Made the twist all that much better. Also the brand was literally called “Sus” what were you expecting.

This was well done. I was expecting a straight up gore fest, but this short has multiple layers of horror: gore, isolation, mental break down, etc.
