This was a look at how childhood illness can terrify us. Illness can be a monster we can't see but still fight. This one is a well constructed analogy of giving the illness monsters a visual representation that we can see and fight back while showing the relentlessness of symptoms coming bad again. The young actress was superb in this work and the special effects were outstanding and impressive and delivered the horror very well. There were some great small moments presented. Love seeing the arm creeping in as she is under the bed just like a bacteria or virus unknowing entering or reentering the body. Seeing the father rendered helpless is a feeling we have all felt when we are waiting in a hospital. Thanks to Daniel Slottje for going deeper in this film and reminding us that illness is a horror in and of itself. Great work to all involved. Thanks Peace

I'm not gonna lie this one made me cry 😭 what I get is that as a parent we have to be there for our children when they are fighting a monster within such as cancer. The dad is helpless because the monster (cancer) is inside and it's up to the little girl to fight it. amazing job everyone👏

Thanks so much, Natasha! It means a lot to know you were moved by it. That's precisely right about the father meant to be helpless in the finale, hence Lilly having to face the monster alone, as they young patients so often do. @@professorplum3858 Thank you so much for this comment (I really mean that). I'm so glad you made it to remission in 2022 and survived, but I also completely understand, somewhat, how impossibly difficult and traumatic that must have been, and that after you go through what you went through, your guard never goes down. The ending, and overall sense of a monster hiding in the darkness, of nature, a beautiful as it is, trying to reclaim the girl, is all a part of the new lens with which she now sees and experiences the world. Thank you again for this comment, it means a lot, and I hope you stay healthy!

@@danielslottje Hey I just looked above my comment and see in fact you are the writer/director of this fantastic film. I have to tell you something. My mom is not a horror fan but I have had her watch so many ALTER shorts and she has been so cool about it. I just rewatched this as she watched it for first time. I usually ask her what she thinks but this time I waited and she looked me square in the eye and "that was horrible and yet" and I said "beautiful?" and she said yes and then she said "that was horrible but I really loved it. It was sad but beautiful. You know I don't like horror movies but this" and I said "got you right there in the first minute grabbed you?" and she said "yes it reminded me of a " name inserted here" that I knew who's daughter was fighting leukemia" and I said what was the part, the scabbing? and she said yes. I said "wasn't this so atmospheric, even the way the title goes up has like Game of thrones vibe" now nothing else about this reminded me of Game of Thrones. It was just how much detail went into every facet of it. I just read that you are going to adapt this to a feature film and I know this is shameless of me but if I can help you in any way, I want to help you. It's been a long time since I have wanted to act in a film but whatever I don't care if you say no to help in front of or behind camera...okay sorry I do care but I accept any answer. I just am so proud of you for doing such a fantastic job and I don't even know you and I just want to help in any way I can but clearly you have had your ducks in a row to even make this short so I suspect you are also already where you need to be for the feature. Aw, man I can't wait! I can't wait. I have to wait!

@@danielslottje great to hear that this could be a full length 📽️ movie 🍿 🎬 The actors were spectacular ,as well as the special effects and storyline. The Creature reminded me of Carpenter s " In The Mouth of Madness 'yet was like 'Cancer Incarnate 'creature was terrifying in its own Right.,👍 💯 This short left me wanting more. I do understand the time allotment / limit given ⏳ in short Films. You filled that time very well, with strong and well-acted characters, A story to keep the viewers involved and engaged . Edited I went back and read the description therefore I found what I was looking for as far as the actors names (Lily?) has A promising future in any endeavor that she chooses, genre of film She's in. I'm not going to lie when the actor shaved his head He looked like Ed Norton in American History x 😮(now I see that was you playing The father) . Lastly I wanted to add that you're using something that you had to endure as a child fear pain illness , used all that suffering for your Art 🎭( as the saying goes) and for Us Horror Fans. That made it so much more special thank you. Ps . A mother who had a child that went through childhood and adolescent illnesses .You portrayed the fear We experienced absolutely in an excellent Manner..

This was incredibly hard to follow. The comments are making me feel crazy. I understand what it’s supposed to depict, but it was all happening so fast I felt uncomfortably anxious. Not the “I’m on the edge of my seat” type anxious, the “what is happening? Where am I!?!” type.

I'm more afraid of watching this in my present condition.. I'm barely keeping my shit together as it is. But I will (hopefully) be back to watch this.. I can see already just in the first five minutes it's well made.
