Yes, more Neil on this channel would be great! There are lots of good options for your next Neil song, but a natural follow up would be "Cowgirl in the Sand", another long song with lots of jamming from the same album as "Down by the River", and in my opinion, an even better song.

I vividly recall first hearing this album back in the day and it was one of the first times I fully understood the dramatic effect music had when the channels were properly separated for various instruments and chords, it really blew my mind and I never heard music the same again.

This was one of Young's early finest moments on guitar; using 'Old Black' a faithful Les Paul, Neil delivers some unique yet searing licks and completes a fantastic track with it. The bass line is excellent, too. Neil's guitar playing is very underrated. This tune is a mood that keeps on giving. Thanks, Biz, for playing Neil. You should listen to 'Powder Finger,' 'Cortez, The Killer,' and 'Like A Hurricane.'

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere -- I played the hell out of this record back when. "Cinnamon Girl" kicks it off, "Down by the River" pushes it along, "Cowgirl in the Sand" finishes it off in preparation for "Southern Man", the fiery rocker from After the Gold Rush that prompted Lynyrd Skynyrd to write "Sweet Home Alabama". Neil Young dropped three all time great classic albums in a row in the early seventies -- Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush, and Harvest. The songs from all three of those albums filled the airwaves throughout the seventies. Check out the studio recording of "Heart of Gold" with backing vocals by Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor.

I'm so glad you are doing Neil Young. I can't wait to see what other tracks you've done. I know this guitar solo by heart, of course, I'm playing air guitar. I was at Madison square Garden in NYC '75 enjoying an electric Neil Young. Midway he takes a long break, comes back and announces the Vietnam war is over. The crowd went crazy, the lights went down and he ripped into Southern man. After the Gold Rush, is a phenomenal album as is the song After the Goldrush. ❤

Yo Biz, "murder ballads" are a deep tradition in Appalachian folk music and later in blue grass and old timey country music. There are countless songs of murdering lovers over the smallest slight. It makes the outrage over the Rap & Hip-Hop community particularly hypocritical when the complainers don't even know the roots of their own music.😢

Alway been a huge Neil fan and love this song but always thought the lyrics were great until the "Shot my baby" which seemed was off his social advocate path, even as I was a teen. Perhaps "Caught my baby" would have not seemed so out of character. Same goes for Jimi Hendrix "Hey Joe". Lyrics seem out of character even though he is talking about Joe committing the crime he certainly throws his improvisation into that part of the lyrics. Love that song too but makes me uncomfortable with it for that reason. Both legendary musicians despite that ...
