I liked your insight. Bernie Taupin, the lyric writer, was writing about loneliness, drug addiction, being separated from his family both mentally and physically, the sad effects of fame. It's such a poignant and lovely song.

Your Song was his first hit and still my favorite

I was the biggest EJ fan in the 70's. This video is not original as there were no music videos when this song came out. Elton and his band and Bernie Taupin created so many masterpieces. My first exposure was the album "Madman Across the Water" which I think never left the turntable🦕🦕 for months.

There were videos. Beatles started them in 60s. Most bands didn't use them until the 80s.
@RadCenter2 жыл бұрын
@@williamjordan5554 there weren't music videos in the modern sense (i.e., made to be played on TV along with other music videos). The Beatles made short films, which were played in theaters.
@williamjordan55542 жыл бұрын
@@RadCenter Trust me on this from a Beatles fan since 1971. The Beatles made LONG films for theaters and "promotional videos" for TV shows beginning with one for Paperback Writer and two for Rain. They got the idea to send the videos to TV shows instead of showing up from the way Elvis had his pink Cadillac tour the country without him.
@ememnicholas5652 жыл бұрын
@@RadCenter Thank you Nancy. I spoke imprecisely when I said there were no videos. I believe you got what I was saying.
@ememnicholas5652 жыл бұрын
@@williamjordan5554 Yes, I know about the Beatles. I was around for the original Beatlemania. Of course there were videos, TV appearances, movies, rock operas, etc. I was referencing the modern sense of "music videos" as defined by the MTV era and later, when most all songs were represented with some kind of produced video. My fault for not being clear in my comment.

I've loved Elton John since I can remember begging mom to not turn the car off which was a lot of the time as I remember very well. You really outa start with his first album "Tumbleweed Connection". It's got some songs on there that will bring you to your knees. In a good way! But, yeah if you want to do just different songs from this album or that, I suggest Razor Face. Btw, I never saw that video from Rocket Man before. They did a good job. Peace

Elton John has had over 50 top 40 hits in the USA and is still making the chart today! The great thing about his music is that his album cuts rival his hits! His music catalogue is among the deepest to dive into with so many great songs, it will keep you busy for months and months.

I honestly don't know what in the heck this video has to do with "Rocketman", the song. Whatever virtues it may have, it really detracts from the song itself. Back in the day, before the advent of music videos, the meaning behind Bernie Taupin's lyrics set to Elton John's melodies, in particularly "Rocket Man," was left up to the listener's imagination.
