I've always said The Stones were the funkiest of the classic rock bands. They grew up on early classic blues records. They've always been amazing. And as for Linda, every cover she's ever made, she makes her own. From this album, check out Soul Survivor, Shine a Light and Rocks Off (yes, that's what it's about!). Other must hears: Let It Bleed, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Moonlight Mile, Street Fighting Man, 2000 Light Years From Home... that can keep you buys, there is so much more!!!

It has been said the Stones made America recognize the great blues musicians they had in their own back yard. They love black America music and it heavily influenced the music they created , so you nailed it in your comments,

The Rolling Stones song to slip into her mix without her realizing it might be "I Just Wanna See His Face", also from Exile On Main Street. That album cover is Made In The Shade, a greatest hits compilation album they released in the late seventies that includes their seventies hits before Some Girls. I still have my vinyl copy of it. Heh. Also check out "It's Only Rock'n Roll (But I Like It)" and "Dance Little Sister".

In the 60's the British R & B meant a combination of blues with faster tempos and song structures added from beat/pop music, thus literally Rhytm & Blues. It was largely a London thing, sort of answer to Liverpool sound led by The Beatles. Rolling Stones was one of the first R & B bands to make it. Animals and Yardbirds were hot on the heels.

The Stones are huge fans of American music,specially black american music and I guess they developed their own style through playing blues, Chuck Berry´s songs,and old R&B music again and again till it became so natural for them that they wrote their own songs toatlly into that vibe.Linda Ronstadt does good on this but the way the Stones sound is crazy,the edge of the guitars,Mick´s vocals,the bass and the drums,Oh,man! I like specially the final "Got to roll me" part where instruments stop and then come back gradually.Some say "Exile..." was Keith´s album and we can hear him singing lead vocals on the song "Happy".Always loved this LP.Peace!

There you go Biz. Glad you did Linda’s live cover the other day. There’s actually one other live cover you should try. It’s worth the time. From a few yrs back at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Celebration Concert, it’s Keith Urban, Vince Gill and Albert Lee trading off on this one. 👈✨

Awesome choice Biz. My personal favourite Stones album - and my favourite album period - is Exile On Main St. "Tumbling Dice" is the last track on Side One. The entire double LP is a mixture of rock and roll, rhythm and blues, blues, soul, country, gospel and even just a touch of reggae. It is incredible when you listen to it and then remember that the Stones are English. They sound more American than most American bands. They also can get into a groove like no other rock and roll band. Get into Exile Biz. You will love it. To check out something not from Exile, maybe go for either "Moonlight Mile" or "Sway" from the previous album, Sticky Fingers.

Rock and Roll is a melding of country, blues, jazz, and big band. The American blues singers went under appreciated in the US. The Brits were gobbling up every Muddy Waters, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins, and John lee Hooker album, and trying their best cover songs. The Rolling stones did that for the first couple years of their existence, not really writing any originals until around 1965. The British invasion, was a direct response to American blues music. Many of those old blues singers toured a lot in the UK trying to make a living and America was not having black music become popular, even Elvis had been tamed and put into movies to "gentrify" music into an organized box full of Frankie Avalons and Pat Boone. The Beatles and Stones brought back a fresh, wild version of these songs, (Many times not even learning the right lyrics, and making up their own, unable to decipher some of the lines in the blues songs of the past) throwing a monkey wrench into the system that the "Whites' in power, especially in the south had to adapt to again.

We used to say that the best American band is English. The Stones take in English pop and folk music, American gospel, soul, blues, and country, and this amazing music comes out. They’re definitely unique, and this whole double album is a mix of all these styles, played by whoever was at Keith Richards’ house, mostly Rolling Stones but also friends, their producer Jimmy Miller, and others, while tape was rolling. ‘Exile On Main St’ is the Stones album I’d have to take to the desert island if I could only take one.

The meaning of this song is so RocknRoll. What Keith is getting at is any chick that hooks up with him or Mick is very much a gambler.
@davidburton9136
@davidburton9136 2 ай бұрын
Sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, for sure, but Mick was not a gambler. He didn't know anything about gambling but had this song title in his head. So, the story is that he asked one of the backup singers to tell him some gambling terms, which he incorporated in this song. And you're so right about how the Stones were successful for pulling from a lot of different genres, including gospel, to create what were their unique songs.

Once the Beatles and Stones started making unprecedented earnings in the late 60s, the British govt. placed a tax on all earning over $250,000 would be taxed nearly 90%. Making them all lose millions each year. The Stones decided to move. Keith Richards bought a mansion in the south of France and the whole entourage lived there during the making of this album. The Beatles started moving assets to Ireland and Scotland to reduce their taxes (George wrote the song TAXMAN because of this development in 1966.

Europe after World War Two was in bad shape. When Mick sang on Jumping Jack Flash , I was born in a crossfire hurricane Imassume he is talking metaphorically about the bombing of London. Fresh vegetables were a luxury, and Keith really disliked canned vegetables. This shaped their music . Team exile, a song with a Church feel Let It Loose, but not a bad cut to me on the album
