But one piece strap can solve the problem with losing one springbar. Doesn't it?
@roadgent79213 ай бұрын
Nato design singularly was to prevent the entire watch slipping off through loose fixed bar lugs that were common back in the day. That's the only reason for the extra strap and loop. There's a documentary about it.
@peoplez1293 ай бұрын
@@Ipeacocks Nope. You need that pass through the bottom, otherwise any strap design would still require two spring bars to keep the watch on your wrist. With a normal NATO, the strap goes all the way around your wrist, and would stay on whether you had a watch attached to it or not, which is how 1 spring bar is enough to save the watch. The one in this video is basically turning a NATO strap into the same behavior as a normal two piece strap without being two pieces. Granted I don't think people have to worry much about spring bars coming loose, but all it takes is one time. Another benefit of the NATO is that the pressure amount and direction on the spring bar is pretty constant, which also means it's less likely to have wear and tear that can cause a spring to come loose. With a 2 piece strap, the strap uses the spring bar like a rotating hinge. With a NATO, the strap is generally just resting on the spring bar and putting some downward pressure. NATO's also don't just have one layer, but two, one above the spring bar that passes through and above the other spring bar, and one below that which passes under the spring bar. This is why if one spring bar comes off, the other one is still held.

It eliminates the safety advantages of a NATO but is still bulky, only flipped the double layer UNDER your wrist. I would prefer an innovative flat strap under my wrist when working in the office. Most of my NATOs wear good and fill the space under the lugs, so the watches sit very well (better than with single layer straps). I think I recall a similar strap technique (with leather) at a 1940s vintage watch I got offered in Switzerland about 25 years ago. Interesting you had the same idea now. Colors and designs look great and prices are ok too (my NATOS are between 12,- and 200€) Wishing you a perfect start!

On the face of it, it's a, cool idea but when I think about it, it doesn't really make sense. We use NATO style straps in particularly rough environments and have to put up with the wierd loop and keeper at the side of the wrist as a, trade off for keeping the watch on your wrist if you lose a spring bar. There's no real point in having that awkward looking piece if you're not going to have the protection. It's better to buy a good standard canvas or nylon strap as it just looks better. Or, cut off the double pass bit or use an original single pass while still having the safety with a bit less bulk under the watch. A good quality single pass or a cut away NATO will not feel flimsy at all. What we have here is a strap that's not very esthetic but it doesn't provide the safety. It's basically an ugly looking strap with no real benefit with unnecessary bulk on your wrist for no good reason.

No matter how you slice it, I wouldn’t consider the new thing to be superior in any way to any of the alternative old things. And it eliminates the primary advantage of the old solution. Criticism of the NATO strap is totally unjustified. Cutting the extra strap defeats the purpose of keeping the watch away from the wrist to allow ventilation and lessen sweating. Fun idea! It looks like you took the single pass NATO strap and widened the inner loop to allow the hand to pass through. The tradeoff from a practicality standpoint is reasonable (just look at any standard watch strap and if a spring bar breaks the watch will fall), but I think the fact that you have to slide your hand through before tightening (as opposed to just slapping it on your wrist) makes this more of a difficult sell (Apple does this with their elastic bands, but now there is the added complexity of tightening it down). Could you have achieved a similar aesthetic result (and I guess conventional result if we're considering the weight distribution) with a conventional 2-piece fabric strap by just doubling the layers?

If that breaks you're screwed. I lost a nice watch that I really liked do to that very reason. I like the NATO's security. (I've also stopped wearing an expensive specialty 'field watch' watch for that very reason. Timex Expedition Indiglo for me now when camping). Your single pass is interesting and probably worth trying so I will take a look at it. And your honesty about the potential drawback of the zero pass is much appreciated. But, if you have a thin enough traditional NATO woven nylon strap the double pass under the case back should not be an issue, eh? @@nickmankeydesigns yeah the way you put it in is very similar, making a big loop for your wrist and then bringing it in from both ends.

I do like the fact that the watch strap isn’t resting on the case.

Imma just make them like this so I don't have to waste my money on your company 😀 thanks fir the design.

damn that looks so good it makes me want to get a speedy just to put it on a leather nato like yours

People are angry because he has removed the functionality of the nato strap (he even mentions this) but kept the design and made it “look nicer”. He did what he set out to accomplish. He didn’t say it was made to work exactly like the nato strap…

This is so cool! It's a very interesting design. I just got one to put on my Garmin watch.

Would love to have a version of this where I didn't need to remove the 12 o'clock spring bar.

I completely see the purpose of this strap, ESPECIALLY for fixed bar watches that have no risk of having a spring-bar failure. Ignore the detractors, Max! The Zero Pass straps have purpose!

I use my double pass natos as a single pass, it's simple although I think your idea is a winner 👍

Yooooooo! I just got my zero pass in. I am not a NATO guy. I have always wanted to be and could never find anything that works. Obviously the function of a traditional NATO is out the window, but I am also not storming the beaches of Normandy. It looks and feels so awesome! I will be ordering one of every color and I will be begging for more colors! Awesome product.

I love this. But the shipping to Australia is far too expensive. $66 AUD just for shipping

just changed it to a standard $35 for international

$35 for shipping, skimming money from the failed strap and shipping. Yuck fou. T)

Great idea. The problem is you will need strong springbars. My brother who loves NATOs has had his break several times, I had to get extra thick ones for his. You should make long straps for wearing on top of coats and jackets in the winter. It is surprisingly useful here in Canada

You've invented..... a normal watch strap. You eliminated some problems but completely overlooked on your watch and a nato that a tucked big lump of strap at the end is the naffest look out there, like abysmally bad.

The infomercialesque format was a bit cheesy, but I ordered a Ron Burgundy for my 14060, and a Slate Grey for my son. Best of luck to you!

There's a way to mount a NATO strap with only "one" pass underneath without compromising the integrity of the strap. I will try one for "fashion/comfort only" and to support the channel. I also respect new ideas.
