This was so an emotional journey. In the 60s I lived in The Royal Borough and walked everwhere. The mews and the backstreets. The squares and the parks. Visiting friends. Pub lunches, Harrods, Montpelier Street, Kings Rd. So many ghosts. And the bitter sweet smell of London rain. Thankyou.

The Muffin Man is still in business! I had the great delight to go to the UK in 2010. We actually stayed in the Holiday Inn, but it wasn't a Holiday Inn at the time. The hotel breakfast was overpriced, so we stopped at The Muffin Man every morning! It was right on the way to the underground! I don't know if it has changed, but at the time they made a pretty delicious, hot breakfast for a very reasonable price. And wonderful pots of tea!

I had a student friend who was staying in Kensington, London. We often went for walks around Kensington/South Kensington, especially around the mews areas, sometimes very late at night, but we were never troubled, it was very peaceful. Our favourite place though that we sometimes visited was Hamptead for that village like atmosphere, its winding streets and the Heath. The rainy weather adds to London's unique atmosphere. It's a nice walk, and certainly brings back memories. I hope you didn't get too wet.

People have such a romantic notion of rain. In limited amounts, and when you can pick it, sure it's charming. Try living with the lack of sunshine and constant rain year after year, and very short dark days in winter. You might not find it so charming. You'll be fantasizing about sunshine! LOL!
