Americans' views of British food may be a lot harsher than those of the citizens of England, but general perceptions of food from different countries can be hugely biased; for instance, there's far more online hate and vitriol directed at France than any other country, while the perceived quality of Mexican food is generally held in high regard. Plus, many English viewers may hold Engish-based prejudices related to those fried pasty components of traditional British cuisine which Americans may see as unappetizing (think battered fried chicken). Growing up as a Malaysian, I've had almost everything in this video since childhood. It turns out that most British snacks, food and drinks are the same as ours. Not a person whom I know of hates them. We love diary milk chocolate, ribena, marmite and we also dip our biscuits into tea. In the Malaysian Chinese cuisine, there's a dish called marmite chicken which, in my opinion, has the god tier flavour ❤.

If you ever come across it don't drink it straight but don't make it weak. Do the opposite of its serving in this video. Pour in a very decent amount of syrup, the water is pretty much to "fill" the glass. I did the same thing with Fluff. The tea part is fascinating. If you go to a traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) in former British colonies of Malaysia and Singapore (and certain parts of Indonesia) and order a cup of teh (tea), you will automatically get tea with milk (and sweetened). That’s just the default definition of teh (tea). If you want tea without milk, you have to specifically order it as teh o (tea without milk).

I grew up in Hong Kong, and I can definitely remember British sweets back in the day like Hobnobs, Cadbury Dairy Milk, Creme Eggs, Double Decker chocolate bar. The candies were great. But I tasted Marmite - it was the most horrible food I had ever tasted and eaten. PG Tips tea is a great tea brand.

Canadian here 😀 I LOVE Yorkshire tea, Hobnobs, Cadbury, and Marmite. I’m so glad they’re available here, especially Marmite. When I was a kid I liked it so much my dad had to hide it from me so I would eat something else.

It's such a pity that blackcurrant was banned in the United States for many years, due to it possibly carrying a disease that could harm certain trees here. The Federal ban is over, and some states now permit growing the plants, but the flavor has never really caught on here because it was nipped in the bud due to the government restrictions. I've had the pleasure of enjoying blackcurrant kvass from Ukraine and blackcurrent-flavored Jelly Babies and loved them both. It's like grape, sort of, but better! Will have to see if I can get Ribena at our local European expatriate market! I'd never paid attention to it before, but I'm sure I'll love it -- as much as I do Yorkshire Gold!

Asia is not a monolith, don’t think that it’s the same everywhere in the continent. If you go to a traditional kopitiam (coffee shop) in Malaysia or Singapore and order a cup of teh (tea), you will automatically get tea with milk. If you want tea without milk, you have to specifically order it as teh o (tea without milk).

It's partly because Hershey was actively trying to block Cadbury products from entering the USA. And a large part is down to Hershey's is what so many Americans grew up with, so it's their comfort food. It's the taste of their childhood. Even though I'm English, I never had beans on toast until I was in my 30s, and when I finally tried it, I didn't like it. But people who grew up with it, having it ever since they were very young, seem to like it.

If anyone is wondering why I have commented so much on this video it is because (besides the Ribena) it hit out of the park! The subtitles, Steven Lim is becoming one of my favourite youtubers, discrepency between nationalities and my favourite thing about this video: they selected top notch snacks to represent the U.K. In a lot of other food tasting videos the selection of snacks is often under heavy scrutiny.
