I always took it to mean - I know I haven't always been the best guy for you. But I just need a chance. Everything will work out for us in the end, baby. I've been attending self-development classes, focusing on my childhood, and what caused my insecurities. Women have always treated me badly - I guess I'm just afraid that you'll reject me... as they did. But I know you are different..I can just feel it I promise when I get defrosted, things will be better. We'll get married and have kids. If it's a boy we'll call it Han. If it's a girl we'll call it Han too. Once I've paid off Jabba, I'll be able to set you up with a new kitchen. And a new vacuum cleaner and mop. Don't worry I'll get myself some headphones so you don't disturb me while I'm watching sport. And Chewie says he will look forward to you washing him in the bathtub.

⭐ The thing about the "I know" line to keep in mind is that Han Solo has spent the whole movie being very upfront about his feelings for Leia. He's not the one pretending not to have feelings. He's been trying to get Leia to admit to her feelings. When she finally does, it's coming at the very last moment they may ever have together. So instead of telling Leia what she already knows, that he loves her back, he tells her "I know". He's telling Leia that she doesn't have to feel badly that she only admitted her feelings right at the end, that he's known she loved him the whole time, that she doesn't need to feel remorse over Han potentially not knowing how she felt this whole time. That's what makes "I know" so beautiful, because it's absolving Leia of any guilt she might feel over having not been honest with Han about her feelings for so long.

Okay, to answer your question about the ending of the original Star Wars (I am a crotchety old guy, so I don't say A New Hope). It was designed to be a standalone movie, and the text 'episode iv' didn't appear on its first release. The plan was to make it a trilogy if it was very successful. But if it was a flop, they had another contingency. There was actually a script written for a very low budget sequel that could use the already existing props and sets, in order to recoup costs. This low budget sequel that never happened was called Splinter in the Minds Eye, and was released as a novel. Of course, Star Wars was such a massive hit that George Lucas was allowed to pretend that he had always intended to make nine of them.

⭐There are a lot of good explanations for "I know" in the comments, but also it's iconic. If he'd said the traditional sappy, "I love you, too", it wouldn't be memorable, would it? They tried that in the scene, though, and neither Harrison Ford nor the director Irvin Kirshner felt like it would be natural for a scoundrel like Han Solo to say that. Besides, he'd been expressing how he felt all movie already, so it would be redundant and unnecessary. But in that moment, it also feels like kind of an apology. It's as if he's saying that he's sorry for her having fallen for him, now that he's going away and neither of them can do anything about it 😥 His lifestyle doesn't lend to a long life expectancy anyway, so it's probably not advisable for most princesses to fall in love with most smugglers. Side note: If you didn't notice, Darth Vader starts off one-handing his attack on Luke. Premature boss battle has the villain toying with him just to show how uneven they are. But Luke tapped his shoulder, so Vader took his hand in retaliation. Gotta love a universe with consequences to raise the stakes...

🌟 3:13 It's been about 3 years if I remember correctly. 6:26 That is a bacta tank. Bacta is a gel/liquid that helps healing. so recovering from wounds will go faster. 6:58 you did read that one right, the move was more to make Han jealous. at leas I have heard that point of view. but please do remember the Kiss between Luke and Leia, we all do. 8:00 little did you know he can do that over video call... 😆 (I was wondering if I should say this or not, but it was the very next scene, so It's good) 9:04 the desert of Tatooine was Tunisia, the snow and ice of Hoth is Norway. 12:58 there is a reason Vader uses that suit (won't tell because Spoilers) and It's not for the aesthetic. 13:15 Oh, Yoda is THE puppet, operated by Frank Oz! 15:40 yes, they are indeed in a thing. and yes, that's why the ground is squishy. 19:01 You are about to find that out 🙂 22:19 Han has been trying to coax that out of her the entire movie! of course he knows. (Harrison ford and the Director were agreed that the scripted "I love you too" didn't really work, so they tried this on a whim.)

The Hoth scenes were filmed in Norway. When Han says, "I know", that line was improvised by Harrison Ford. He felt Han wouldn't say I love you in those circumstances.
@Joshu_Y3 ай бұрын
The scripted line was "Remember that, because I'll be back." Harrison felt the character would be simpler in his response, and also wanted to leave his return open ended, as he felt it would be more dramatic if it was possible for him to die after freezing.

I like to think Han said I love you, just not with words. He said it with his eyes. Watch his eyes in that scene again. It also just occurred to me that if Han says I love you too, he's kind of saying goodbye and that he won't see her again and he doesn't want to do that. I know feels unfinished and more like until next time.

⭐️ This takes place 3 years after the last movie This takes place maybe over the course of a month. Luke’s training time is unclear, especially because places strong in the Force, like Dagobah, have their own time. Might’ve been weeks, or even months. The creatures the rebels are riding are called tauntauns. They’re snow lizards. The yeti creature is called a wampa The tauntauns were full sized props for the close ups and stop motion figures for when they ran The tank Luke was in is a bacta tank. Bacta is a special fluid that speeds up healing. Luke is a commander I’m sorry, you don’t know what a harpoon is? It’s a spear or hook like tool attached to a string Yoda is fully a puppet The C in C-3PO stands for c*ck block XD That was the emperor vader talked to. He was told right before he talked to him that the the emperor wanted to make contact with him. He’s also force sensitive and is Vader’s master. Mynocks are silicon based parasites that feed on electrical energy Luke’s vision in the cave was telling him if he attacked without emotional control he could fall to the dark side. It’s a Han Solo answer is what it is. They tried having Han say “I love you too” multiple times, but it just wasn’t working. So Harrison Ford improvised what he thought Han would say, and it was perfect. •I saw a watch along that had Sam Witwer, who’s in a lot of star wars stuff, and when the scene happened, he said that it’s a moment of growth for Han because he looks at her like “I know, and I’m so sorry. This is gonna be hardest on you.” He’s worried about her and how what’s about to happen to him will affect her. That blew my mind! I never thought of it that way. Luke wouldn’t bleed out because lightsabers cauterize. Unless you’re a species with blood that doesn’t cauterize, like that guy whose arm obi wan cut off in episode 4. The Vader twist was kept secret from pretty much everyone. The only ones who knew were George Lucas, James Earl Jones (Vader’s voice), and the director. They told Mark Hamill right before they filmmed the scene. For everyone else, the line they thought it was gonna be was “Obi-Wan killed your father.” Everyone is capable of feeling the force. I think those untrained could feel it if reached out to by somone who is, like we see here.

Everyone in the movie theatre was shocked and gasped when Darth Vader told Luke who he was. In the scene where Princess Leia tells Han Solo she loves him and Han Solo answers with I Know was improvised. In filming Harrison Ford kept saying I love you back to Carrie Fisher, but it didn't work. On one take Harrison Ford goes I Know. He told the producer and George Lucas would be more in character to what Han Solo would say. They agreed to keep the changed dialogue.

It's funny how the "I know" statement from Han to Leia is received differently by women today vs in the 70's and 80's. Women thought it was the most romantic thing back then as Leia had been hiding her feelings throughout the movie but her façade had begun to crack. Then she finally said what everyone suspected and Han acknowledged it. But women reacting to it today all have the same weird reaction where they didn't like it. They all wanted Han to reciprocate with his own "I love you" when everyone already knew that he did and had been making his feelings known throughout the movie.

Much darker film. Did you notice Vader was different? Irvin Kershner wanted to make Vader more terrifying, and to do that he actually wanted Jame Earl Jones to "tone down" the aggressiveness in his voice. A different timbre. He wanted the range to be small. Not quite monotone, but more level. In Star Wars he shouts, in this, he never shows his top, which makes a more compelling villain. It also didn't seem quite as filtered, like a radio in the first one. It was cleaner. From his second line "That's it, the rebels are there, and I'm sure Skywalker is with them". I realized 'oh, there's a different Vader here'..... Very effective.

"I love you""I knoiw." I've noticed how **ungrateful women reactors are for that scene. Princess Leia is probably one of the Top 10 most wanted "traitor" in the galaxy, wanted dead or alive, by Darth Vader himself. And Han Solo (1)STAYS on Hoth to makes sure he's safe (2)Tries to PERSONALLY escort her to her evacuation ship (3)PERSONALLY uses his OWN ship to get outta there, taking laser damage the whole time (4)Fights Asteroids, TIE Fighters, Mynocks, and giant TOOTHED worms to keep her safe (5)and gets TORTURED by king-of-pain Darth Vader HIMSELF ....and the whole time, the WHOLE TIME, we all know he can just take the money and run and go back to smuggling. But he loves her and he's a standup guy. He's not wanted AT ALL. He RISKS his life, his ship, and Chewy's life, but he says "I know," and suddently women are like "it's not enough!" As a kid, i thought it was wierd for girls to not see that Han saved her life yet they complain.. You put yourself in the movie and think...."if I was Han, why would someone be that ungrateful after I saved their life?" As a middle-aged man who saw this in the theater, with years of life experience behind, I see it, as UNGRATEFULNESS. And...it's not Leia. Leia isnt ungrateful, it's OTHER WOMEN, who are "outraged on her behalf." I've seen it at work, at schools, on TV, at weddings. I suppose it's funny, but in real life....is that any way to treat someone who has done so much for you? When I point this out...no one argues the truth of it...but instead they say something pithy, like "who hurt you?" Not even close. Just a Star Wars fan. Not ONCE have I heard someone acknowledge the ingratitude of being that indignant to someone who saved your life. There has been only ONE reaction channel that came close, and that was Czech Out These Reactions. It's two women f rom the Czech Republic. You have to go to Eastern Euripe to find a woman who values life-saving action, over (two) words.

some lore about the lightsabers for you, katie: even though the lightsaber is one VERY powerful weapon (because it can cut ALMOST everything. there are some metal alloys that can resist it, like beskar and cortosis, forcefields can too, etc.), it is usually only deadly if you hit critical organs. since the blade of lightsabers is several thousand degrees hot, wounds are cauterized instantly. there is very little blood involved and the wounded doesnt bleed out. the colors of lightsabers are determined by the usually white blueish kybercrystal inside them that powers the saber. at first contact with a force user, its color is determined by the kind of connection the forceuser has to the force. for example: jedi knights have blue blades. theyre very adept fighters, excell in lightsaber combat, are strong willed and have well trained bodies that make them an exceptional bodyguard or peacekeeper. jedi consulars have green blades. they have a very deep understanding of the force and are wise and well versed in diplomacy and etiquette. they make exceptional diplomats and counselors (hence the name) there are many other colors with different meanings, but you get the idea. the red blade of a dark side user comes from a ritual where all the hate and anger of the dark side user is fokused into the crystal, turning it into a deep red color.

"Is that a successful landing?" Dear, learn that in aeronautics; every landing you came out from in one piece is a successful landing, or just as a famous character will say in a later movie "Just another happy landing !" Walkers are scary, yes, those are more terror machines than practical military equipement, such as most of the rest of the Imperial War machine... IRL Harpoons used to be spear like devices used to hunt whales. Nowadays, Harpoon rifles are the same but propelled by a compressed air cartridge from a simili rifle/carbine. In the movie, it's likely a magnetic grappler with a cable to tow things on long distances that they repurpose as weapons to make the walkers fall down. Han wanting to leave Leia is not against her, he has to payback Jabba but knowing Jabba, in case it turns badly, Han doesn't want the big slug to take hold on Leia as "compensation" for Han's delay...

Women at the time fell harder for Han Solo when he said, "I know" than they had before. It was a different time.

26:40 The answer to your question is 'not really.' While a few masters have come close, not even the most powerful force users, Jedi or otherwise can truly fly. They can levitate, but that takes a ton of concentration and they can't really move around very well while doing it. Jedi who are fully trained can jump long distances and the really powerful ones can sort of glide briefly, but they can't fly.

Filmed the Hoth bit in Norway for the outdoor stuff. The Rebels were Norwegian soldiers.

Huh, interested to hear takes. I guess it takes a minute to think about but Han's "I know" but I mean.. he says it because it's so.. well.. Imagine getting chased by a guy that's trying to woe you forever, you KNOW how he feels. And this entire time he's SURE you like him back and you FINALLY let him know in the biggest way possible. Probably sounds bad/esoteric to everyone else but in Leia's context I am pretty sure it is a lot more impactful if that makes any sense psychologically speaking

About the triangle Luke-Han & Leia, you'll have your answer in episode 6, for all other questions, answers in the prequels (episodes1-2-3). If you have more, I'll answer you later (without spoiling you) in time. Have a nice day & see you for the next episode. WhichKatie or WitchKatie ?--yes, I like to tease people for fun. ⭐

You are the first reactor I have seen that realized that the Force probably led Han to Luke's location out in the blizzard.

Subscribed! Love that you are watching them in release order, you get the reveals in the same order we saw them in the theater. As you watch the rest of the series you will note a few continuity flaws in these first ones: they hadn't quite planned the whole story in one go (I mean, it did take 30+ years to make all nine.)

Love watching your reaction! John Williams is one of the greatest composers of all time. As for Yoda, he was testing Luke's patience. Yoda knew who Luke was when he saw him but wanted to pretty much see how much he could irritate him. As for your question about Mynocks, they are bat-like scavengers who feed off of electricity which is why they love to attach to power cables and snack away. Sorry, I'm a huge Star Wars geek lol. Welcome to the club. Can't wait to see your reaction to Return of the Jedi.
