Watching As I Fall | Lyrics
Excuse me while I kiss the sky
Sing a song of sixpence / pocket full of lies
Thinking I’m OK but they’re saying otherwise
Tell me how I look but can’t look me in the eyes
Watching as I say this and then I do that
Telling them the old words but in a new rap
Then I change my mind up and make them lose track
Shit I’m inconsistent I thought you knew that
Maybe I should be more grateful
That I had to watch it all come undone
Holding so tight to the edge is painful
But I can’t ignore it I know
They’re watching as I fall / they’re staring as I go
I gave until my soul hurt / and never told them so
They’re watching as I fall / to somewhere down below
But maybe I’m just falling / to get somewhere they won’t
Excuse me while I sympathize
Singing with the fat lady tell me what’s the time
You know what it is not afraid to cross the line
Nothing is forever don’t be mad at the design
Ask me if I can / I say I don’t know
And honestly I buy that I can sound cold
Still upset from shit that’s 15 years old
I don’t know what it takes to make me let go
Maybe I should be more grateful
That I had to watch it all come undone
Holding so tight to the edge is painful
But I can’t ignore it I know
They’re watching as I fall / they’re staring as I go
I gave until my soul hurt / and never told them so
They’re watching as I fall / to somewhere down below
But maybe I’m just falling / to get somewhere they won’t

Mike shinoda is the meaning of the word "genius" tbh. And I love how he uses sarcasm constantly and it's great at least ONE good singer / rapper knows how to use it properly. By sarcasm I meant especially the lyrics "Well thank you, Genius, you think it'll be a challenge? Only my life's work hangin' in the f***in' balance".

That's what hurts the most about this. The fact that all we can do now is just imagine Chester's aggressive melodic talents integrated in these newer songs with Mike. Those guys were like the dynamic duo that glued together the whole band. Now i'm getting emotional just thinking about.

I used to listen to Hybrid Theory on my CD player every single night, crying hard. Because life is hard. I went through 8 foster homes and lost both of my parents due to cancer, it’s truly because of the songs Linkin Park made I wanted to see another day. Because when I felt no one understood me at all, all I had to do was press play on the Hybrid Theory. Thank you Linkin Park, and thank you mike for continuing the true work of LP.

Hope all is well. And this may seem random and out of nowhere but don't fall for the Band-Aids for a change of emotions like for an example using drugs... What started as just snorting a Percocet with my cousin 3days after my mom died waaaay back in March 2011... Damn it's really been that long ago I don't... Sorry getting off track but my point was it started as seemingly harmless act of snorting one opioid pill in the beginning stages of my first experience of mourning turned into me shooting a combination of some street fentanyl analog and crystal meth which I've actually had to recently return to snorting because I don't have the veins left to shoot up anymore... I guess what I mean to say to you and anyone else experiencing excruciating pain from traumatic experiences is give it your all and then some to find the actual cure or fix to your issues causing the pain or you will end up like me constantly put on a new Band-Aid multiple times a day, everyday.... The only thing my future now holds is suicide... Take care folks... Everyone love yourselves even when no one else does please!

Suicide is not selfish. It is not "taking the easy way out" and it is not cowardly. Depression is an illness. You do not call people selfish when their illness kills them. You do not blame someone with a disease for succumbing to their disease. Each person suffers differently. It is not always easy to "just get help" and like any other diseases and illnesses, sometimes the treatments don't work. Depression is real, it is debilitating, it is painful. It's hard to explain how you could feel connected to a person that you don't even know, however his music and passion in life was always something I relate to since i was a child. Rest in peace my childhood legend. R.I.P, Chester. ADIÓS CHESTER BENNIHTON 1976-2017 | LINKIN PARK

A Grammy, yes. But in all honesty, that would be a bittersweet award: this song isn't about making money or getting an award... It's about grieving, and trying to heal. An award would be a constant reminder of who and what was lost, as if the memories aren't hard enough to deal with...

I get chills too,Soul Animation...I think when Mike wrote that,he was expelling his anger at the ignorance that some people have when trying to give him advice on how to feel better, kinda like when we lose someone close to us,we are often told "it couldn't be helped",or,"life goes on",and that's the type of shit you don't need to hear when you're grieving.Everybody giving their two cents when they aren't the ones not having a clue on how to move on,or,feeling the deep pain.

Losing Chester still feels like yesterday, but please stay strong Mike, honestly, your music has gotten me through some of the WORST moments of my life, having a Father who didn't love me, a Brother who got taken at 23, dealing with Borderline Personality Disorder (which i wasn't diagnosed with until 35, i'm now 37), i've had some trials lets just keep it at that, these songs you write let me know i'm not alone, this anger these raw feelings i feel, everyone gets them also in times of extreme distress... But i will always love Linkin Park and Fort Minor as they got me through my darkest moments, and i'm still here. The world disgusts me though..... peace and love brother, sorry for being over a year late.

Sorry I'm really late for this... (extremely late) but, no matter. Mike, if you ever read this comment, I've always turned to Linkin Park when I felt like I was at my wits end, and your lyrics and Chester's lyrics have always spoken to me, I'm 22 now and I still turn to you when the world feels cold. Even now, even without Chester in this world anymore, your lyrics still hit me like a rock, and I think I speak for most of us when I say that we all stand behind you, and even now in 2019, we still miss Chester, and Linkin Park in general. But his voice will always live on. I blast it in the car wherever I drive 😅. I've lost some pretty close friends and family as well, and been through and still going through constant stress... to a point where im thinking certain thoughts again, but its thanks to you guys, and to the people that are close to me that i can keep pushing forward. So don't stop Mike... keep making an impact in our lives. 🤘🤘❤

WHY! Why do you people constantly let someone tell you tales as old as time when they have no idea if that is the truth! Why would God let us burn when most people just don't seem to grasp that THEY ARE IN CONTROL OF THEIR OWN LIVES AND WHATEVER HAPPENS IS NOT GODS DOING. i REFUSE TO BELIEVE CHESTER AND CHRIS AND WHOEVER ELSE COMMITTED SUICIDE ARE BURNING CAUSE THEY TOOK THEIR OWN LIVES. YES I BELIEVE GOD GAVE US LIFE BUT UNLESS YOU MOLEST CHILDREN OR TRAFFIC SLAVES OR SOME REALLY MESSED UP THINGS... WHY THE HELL WOULD THAT BE THE END RESULT?!?!?! I do not ever want to see someone give up and commit suicide. It hurts more then the people who do it realize but they are just hurting and need to know they matter. I fear so much the idea of burning but My grandma god rest her soul... She told me that this life is just one major test and if you pass it, you will get to go home like I will be soon... I hate the idea that we lost Chester and others have been lost to suicide.. But I can not stand when people say that God would just turn his back on them and throw them to hell if they take their own life... I don't want to cause a debate because your opinions are yours and you can't make me change mine weather you disagree or not. We are all human. We all loved the man that was Chester... And this life. gets shorter and shorter with each passing day so why fight when we could come together and understand things like the things I have said are not bullets. I am not telling anyone NO THIS IS HOW IT IS. I am just stating that negativity is what causes bad feelings like suicide... so why do we say that won't get them into heaven when all we can do is mourn and hope that they are in a better place. If we lose someone we truly love to suicide, isn't it a bit hypocritical to say that they are going to bad dark places when the love we have for them should be light rather than darkness?

Chester was not smiling, one of the reasons he took his life! If you're Atheist that's the truth. If you believe in a life after, I suppose you could believe that. Let's say you do believe in a life after. Don't you think Chester could possibly be looking back for an answer or reason on his depression and not finding it? Could he be more depressed in his choice? What if he looked back and saw how hurt his Family, Band Mates and fans continue to be? That certainly would not make me happy, to see hurt, pain, misery, grief and heartache painted on the faces and felt in the hearts of the people that I loved and loved me. Now, I am Atheist. We all get one shot and in comparison to time and space, it's a half of a blink. Still pissed Chester ended his life. I still wish he could have been helped. I hope that anyone contemplating suicide get's help and grasps what a wonderfully weird, non purposeful gift life is. I hope LP continues to make music. Collectively they were a brilliant band. I hope that they can still be better!

Because many artists through history gave us their best because of their pain, anger, sorrow or whatever it is that pushed them to create more art either through music or painting. So I have no doubt the guys are pushing themselves to be better, stronger and to inspire even more people ❤️

I loved and supported everything you did with Chester, and I'll continue to do the same with where you go always. Please, please keep doing what you do, everybody here supports and loves you, your family and friends especially. I hope you recover well, it'll be a long process but we as fans will always have your back no matter what!

Am I the only one that thinks Mike created the chorus with Chesters mindset? The way it says "They're watching as I go" And "I gave until my soul hurt and never told them so". It sounds like he's getting out the words Chester couldn't. Chester gave until his soul hurt but he didn't tell anyone, he kept it well hidden. His bandmates and family + friends where watching as he was slowly dying but still they had no idea what was going on in his head. I feel Mike may be putting a piece of Chester into these songs but idk, that's just what I think. R.I.P Chester ❤

German Tovar I think thats because he often wrote songs for chester and Chester often sung Mike's lyrics.

Yess!! I think the same way! this song got me confused, I don´t know if he´s talking about him or about Chester. The images of alcohol and drugs in the video got me confused :/

@3:34 Watching this for the first time, it's December 12th 2019, big love to you and the rest of the guys, been a fan of LP since One step closer, your band's music got me through some hard times, heard your new song "Fine" a couple days ago and can't stop listening to it, currently struggling with some issues myself, drinking them away, wanting to quit work etc... I appreciate all of your music, greatly, know that. Thanks Mike.

Mike, you help me feel the the anguish I have in my own life and that is so revealing. My heart goes out to you and I am soooo thankful to have seen you smile and laugh at the House of Blues in Chicago. I respect you so much! Please reach out for anything, please ❤️. Spend time loving your family, wife and kids...let yourself be comforted 🙏. Much love from one human to another.

You can tell that he really poured his heart and soul into these songs. Some people said that they hear Chester in the song, but I honestly just think that he had the same raw emotion that Chester put into his singing. Bless you Mike.

Mike Shinoda is one of the greatest lyricists of this generation, perhaps one of the greatest lyricists of all time. This is so raw and powerful and cathartic. The artwork is amazing, the music is amazing, the filming makes it feel so much more real. I have watched these videos what seems like hundreds of times, even though I know that’s not true. The immense feelings this gives me makes me want to take a break from the stresses of life and go back to my art, and I wanna thank Mike for that. Even when he’s so unapologetic and raw, he can touch so many people in the best ways. He’s such an innovator and so full of love and respect for others and I wish more people in the world were like that. Thank you so much, Mike...we love you.

This is Mike at his personal best expressing the crazy depth and variety of expressions and emotions he actually is able to gracefully bring out in the form of the music. Please keep making it and hold us close to you, as all of us care when a light goes from us.
