It is a great episode. When the Host/ Angels fell into the nuclear storm drive they had been drained of all their power by Banekafelatta, so were not able to escape back up- and once they hit the storm drive that would be the end of them anyway. Remember Mr Copper's name. He doesn't ever appear again, but is mentioned by another character in passing, towards the end of the next series. The man obviously did good with his million pounds! When this first aired we got a gold plastic Host Halo off the front of Doctor Who Adventures Magazine (a kids mag that ran at the time) and we still have it 16 year later!

This is one of my favourite Christmas specials. Kylie does a great job and it doesn’t feel gimmicky. The actor you said you recognise is Clive Rowe, famous for all 00’s kids from Tracy Beaker.

This episode is a wonderful homage to disaster movies of the 1970’s where most of the characters meet a tragic end, like Earthquake!, Airport, The Towering Inferno, and The Poseidon Adventure.

I won't be watching Torchwood as I just never got into it, but I love Series 4 and theres some truly amazing Sarah Jane episodes in series one that you forget its meant to be a kids show, really stands on its own. I rewatch them too, never saw them as a kid as I was 18 when Who came back in 2005.

So it gets more slack than it deserves by association. But I love it, it’s one of my favorite Christmas specials

I love this episode, agree that it’s better than the s3 finale lol. Regarding the angels not flying before the bridge scene, they never really had a reason to, since every other time they’re seen before that (after they turn bad anyway) they’re just in a regular part of the ship that’s maybe twice their height at the most, so flying would provide no advantage. This is also, like you mentioned, one of my favourite ensemble casts in the show. I think they’re only matched in quality by the casts from one of the Series 4 specials, and an episode from Series 9. The structure for the next run of Torchwood, SJA and DW looks pretty good. Doctor Who S4 is my favourite series of the show, and Torchwood S2 would be my favourite of that show if it wasn’t for the incredibly high quality of S3. You’re in for a good few seasons!

In the 1970s there were a bunch of “disaster movies” that this nods to. A team of people who are trapped but have to get out, and they die one by one. This was loads better than those movies. One thing Russell Davies does really really well is write side characters who hit you in the heart. Even his minor characters seem more than minor. Remember … skip the opening credits for the next one!

lmao love how ur like oh yay he's a family man when the pilot causes the crash and states his family will get a bunch of money for it when i watched this, i thought it was RTD's final story as showrunner, and that's why it was taking the piss so much, and i was loving it so much. It was a unique viewing of it that i cherish. i think the only surviving person from the titanic criticised this episode coz it didn't treat the titanic disaster seriously. guess it's good they're probably dead for the submarine joining it. i think it's fair that the angels didn't fly sooner than the scene where they do. it's like in Dalek when it flies, it never needed to in the confined rooms we saw it in before then. when he says 'take me to ur leader', he says he always wanted to say that but i'm pretty certain he says that 1 or more times in the classic series the doc is definitely not the next person in authority unless their programming for that is based purely off vibes. this was my fav episode at one point, just before my hatred of the eras after Tennant melted away oh damn, i'm gonna have to finish watch sarah jane adventures. i only started it recently. it has a bunch of whatever episodes, but then sometimes it hits u with an incredible story out of the blue.

I think the reason the doctor was the next person of authority was because there was no one else after Max, since he is the leader. Your reason to why the Angels didn’t fly sooner makes sense. Interesting to see what I think of Sarah Jane adventures. Thanks for watching and commenting :)

@@HamzaReactz Umm, it's just a bit...silly. I actually prefer it now to when it aired but, I just felt it was all a bit daft at the time. Worth noting, however, that it got a whopping 13 million viewers at the time. The media went crazy for Kylie.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday or today, I can’t remember exactly when 😂 I think I’m gonna have to rewatch series 1 at some point off camera to see but for now I’d say Tennant. He’s amazing as The Doctor and plus we’ve spent more time with him and seen more character development with him than the 9th doctor. But I remember really enjoying 9th doctor aswell. It was hard for me to see anyone else play the doctor after series 1 and now I think it’ll be hard for me to see someone else as the doctor once Tennant is done.

I definitely prefer Doctor Who 100% but I don’t think Torchwood is bad. I can see why Doctor Who fans may not like it because they both have a different vibe to them. Just set in the same world.

The show gets better and better from here, the next season finale is one of the best, after tenant smith (the eleventh doctor) is quite good aswell, however he doesn’t have as many good episodes as tenant. Then after that it goes downhill, there’s a grey haired man and then a woman after that and I personally do not like their episodes

@@HamzaReactzDon’t listen to these kind of comments. Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi, the two doctors after Tennant are brilliant. The writing in Capaldi’s run gets a bit more complex and mature as time goes on, so it’s less appealing to the family audience perhaps, but definitely amazing writing and great acting all around.

Its interesting that you enjoyed this ep... it wasn't a big fan favourite... a lot hated it... i initially enjoyed it, but felt it was a bit bloated.... and mainly done to have kylie Minogue in it (it did the job... still one of the highest viewed episode of NuWho) ... but have enjoyed it much better on the rewatches... especially as part of 10's arc... here again... he is unable to save people... and that look on his face when Mr copper says if he cud choose who lives or dies.... it really feels like 10 actually considered the thought... sends shivers down my spine... the whole ep is a trope on disaster movies...and feels like a blockbuster... i prefer the Last of the Time Lords more due what i said on your vid...but on rewatches this has been a rewarding story too Look forward to the rest of your journey....

@peterwright6721 thanks for your kind words... but it isn't a fan a favourite... i remember when it aired and how much it was panned by many fans... yes it was watched by the most viewers... cos Kylie was the draw... RTD knows how to sell the show. I have often seen reaction vids that have not loved this episode... I'm glad he loved it... but I'm not gonna lie either... I absolutely love Love and Monsters... but I also accept that its one of the most hated stories in Who... of course VOTD doesn't receive the same amount of dislike as LAM... but its still not a fan favourite...
