I personally call this adaptation to the Grinch story as horribly underrated. Honestly, I cannot understand why people don’t like this film. I’ve watched Illumination’s Grinch several times and I still enjoy it to this day. It’s entertaining, doesn’t feel like it’s a rinse and repeat premise from the previous incarnations, aside from the source material, and is very wholesome as well.

I don't think this adaption of The Grinch is not that bad. The things that makes this watchable are the wonderful animation, Benedict's Cumberbatch as Grinch being pretty decent, some of the jokes landing, and the third act feeling like the adaption of the original. Just a harmless little holiday that's nowhere near the same level as the original, but it still keeps the spirit of the book than Jim Carrey's film.

I remember when I watched this movie the first time, Grinch backstory and ending sence was really sad and emotional that tears begin to drop on my eyes. It’s sad to see the Grinch was very lonely as a kid with no family, no siblings or friends. But I am glad that the girl help him to let go his loneliness, and to be with a family on Christmas 🎄🙂🎄

This movie was way more different than the other adaptations of the story. Not only it was all CGI, which granted it was made by Illumination so that’s to be expected. But, when I heard Benedict Cumberbatch was playing The Grinch, it was pretty hard to believe. And he’s not really as amazing as Boris Karloff version or as memorable as the Jim Carrey version, but he does try is best and I give him credit for that. He is trying to give a good performance, and I appreciate his effort into doing this.

Both movies are retelling of the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," which was a TV special back in 1966, which is voiced by the legend Boris Karloff. The 1990 movie was Warners Bros. trying to capitalize on the IP. Same with this version, and The Lorax movie

You should watch the very first adaptation of How the Grinch stole Christmas, a 30 minute special from 1966, directed by Chuck Jones, one of the directors at Termite Terrace, which did the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons for Warner Bros. It's very faithful to the original book by Dr. Seuss AKA Theodore Giesel, who also was the producer of the special and wrote the lyrics for the songs including Welcome Christmas and You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch (he also was a friend to Chuck Jones, they collaborated during World War II, doing military training cartoons for the US Army, called Private Snafu). It stars Boris Karloff (the guy who portrayed Franenstein's Monster from Universal's first two Frankenstein movies: Frankenstein and The Bride of Frankenstein) as The Grinch and the narrator, June Foray as Cindy-Lou Who and Thurl Ravenscroft (Tony the Tiger plus many Disney voices and singing of Disney movies, such as Sir Bart rom Sword in the Stone, Captain from 101 Dalmatians, Al the Aligator from Lady and the Tramp, Monstro the Whale from Pinocchio and Kirby the Vacuum Cleaner from The Brave Little Toaster trilogy) sung You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.

I don't know if I have a favorite because I have watched all 3. The first Grinch. And then you have Jim's version and now this one. I think this one is closer to the book compared to what Jim did. I feel that one was for adult humors and to attract adults besides just kids. But all 3 fun movies. I like them.

After watching three versions of The Grinch, this 2018 version is not bad. Given the fact Benedict Cumberbatch voices the lead role (and was working back to back as Doctor Strange during that time), it’s proof he’s versatile. Sadly, this was also the last film adaptation overseen by Dr. Seuss’ widow Audrey Geisel. She always made sure that her late husband’s work was done respectfully and with dignity.

I don't understand why people have the 2018 version of The Grinch. It's a cute adaptation. And honestly,the fact Grinch was an orphan who never received any gift is a more reasonable reason for hating Christmas rather than being bullied or anything else. It fits right because it gives us the reality of lonely poor kids on Christmas. Not all kids are lucky like anyone else. A lot of kids are sick,spending the Holidays at the hospitals. Really sad. It's one of the reasons why I love this version of The Grinch.

In my honest opinion, the change of heart scene was better handled in this version than the Jim Carrey version. The way the score gradually built up in a joyous triumphant as we see the Grinch actively taking Cindy Lou Who’s advice by closing his eyes, listens to the music and just feels the joy gradually swell up in his heart and let’s all his sadness go away and that how his hearts starts growing 3 sizes. It was like he was really meditating and experiencing love in his heart for the very first time. That is soooo beautiful!!! 🥹🥹 When I saw this movie in theatres, I thought the change of heart seen was actually a lot more beautifully powerful and yet touching. I felt like my own heart was growing 3 sizes along with the Grinch. 💗💗💗

However, the only one who is not thrilled is the grumpy, cantankerous and green-furred Grinch, born with a heart being "two-sizes too small". He lives in his cave with his dog, Max, and only goes into Whoville to buy groceries and harass the Whos. One day, 6-year-old Cindy Lou Who notices her mother Donna is overworked trying to take care of herself and her twin infant brothers, Buster and Bean. Cindy Lou initially decides to send a letter to Santa Claus to help her mother, but after an encounter with the Grinch - who sarcastically tells her that, if the matter is so urgent, she will have to talk to Santa face-to-face about it - she decides to go to the North Pole to talk to Santa himself. When Donna tells her that a round trip to the North Pole would take a month, she instead decides to try trapping Santa with the help of her friends. With Christmas approaching, an attempt by the Grinch to ruin a tree-lighting ceremony goes wrong, resulting in him having a flashback about his disjointed childhood spent alone and unwanted in an orphanage. Unable to bear these memories, the Grinch soon decides that he will steal Christmas from Whoville to assuage his distress. He and Max acquire a fat reindeer, whom the Grinch calls Fred, and steal a sleigh from his neighbor Bricklebaum. After a test run, the Grinch and Max discover that Fred has a family, and the Grinch emotionally agrees to let Fred go home with them. On Christmas Eve, after making a Santa Claus disguise and crafting dozens of gadgets to help him with his plan, the Grinch and Max, who pulls the sleigh in Fred's place, go down to Whoville to steal the decorations and presents. He soon encounters Cindy Lou after falling into her trap. Her request to help lighten her mother's workload and her advice about listening to the Whos' singing to alleviate his sadness touches the Grinch's heart. Despite this, the Grinch continues his mission, unable to let go of the loneliness Christmas brought him. After stealing every Christmas present and decoration, the Grinch and Max head back to Mount Crumpit to dispose of them. The Whos wake up and are shocked and disappointed to see that the presents and decorations are gone. Cindy Lou believes that she is to blame because of her trap, but Donna tells her that Christmas is not centered on presents and that Cindy Lou is the best thing that ever happened to her. The Whos join together to sing "Welcome Christmas", rendering the Grinch puzzled to see that they are celebrating Christmas despite his thefts. Seeing Cindy Lou and remembering her guidance, he immerses himself in their singing, causing his shrunken heart to blissfully triple in size. Afterwards, the sleigh begins to fall off Mount Crumpit, and the Grinch attempts to save it. He succeeds when Fred and his family come to his aid. After securing the sleigh, the Grinch and Max slide down back to Whoville in order to return the stolen items, and the remorseful Grinch admits his actions and apologizes to the Whos before returning to his cave. Feeling sorry for the Grinch, Cindy Lou later invites him and Max to celebrate Christmas at her house which he awkwardly attends. Not if you go by Great Britian, USA or other engish speaking country traditions but if you go after Scandinavian traditions then most kids do because Santa actually comes on Christmas Eve to deliver them to kids and their families in person instead of sneaking inside a house or home to put them underneath the tree.

Another thing too. This story is completely didn't than the original book. There was no backstory on the Grinch; no reason why he hated Christmas, it just didn't like it. It wasn't until the Jim Carrey movie; that they started writing a backstory as to why he is how he is, and that was only because the book was too short of a full length movie. So this movie borrows somewhat from that movie, and Dickens A Christmas Carol, but putting the Grinch in a orphanage .

This adaptation of the Grinch wasn’t to my liking because I guess the Jim Carey one is the one I love the most and grew up with but this one wasn’t all that bad like the animation was really good and Benedict did a really good job voicing as him because at some points he sounds completely different compared to his actual voice and the story was alright too. The thing that bothered me were that nobody was afraid of him like he can casually just walk into the village and nobody would be screaming like everyone is supposed to be scared of him instead it felt he was more of an grumpy old Grandpa nobody liked I don’t why but bothered me the most.Other than that I enjoyed your reaction Tim and I can’t wait for the next movie you do 😊😁💚💚

I like this version of the Grinch I don't like the animation though. I feel bad for him at least he got invited from Cindy Lou for the Christmas dinner even though he stole a lot of Christmas stuff. I do celebrate Christmas by the way it's always been one of my favorite holidays because of the gifts and the Christmas songs. I saw this version on Netflix and I enjoyed it.

I prefer this version in many ways to Jim Carey’s version. Personally I feel like Jim Carey’s overacting is what ruins the live action version while it is funny it can be too much and dr Seuss architecture does not translate well to live action in my opinion. I like what Benedict Cumberbatch did with this grinch and shows different sides to the character and more sympathetic
