Maggots clean a wound. They eat the infection. Its true. Maggots eating a deep cut infection is like using hydrogen peroxide on it.Then the guy put salt in the wound.

One of the greatest acting ensembles we'll ever see in a single film. Russell Crowe, Connie Nielsen, Joaquin Phoenix, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed. Each of them gave Oscar-worthy performances. 🏆

Brilliant movie outstanding but didn't need a Gladiator II

A Gladiator II that could have worked well, would have been a film chronicling Juba's journey home.

Quintus ordered not to draw any sword, probably regretting his lack of honor, loyalty and ethics for so long. After seeing the emperor's evil ways injuring Maximus... it was too much to give a sword to a coward and traitor.
@Stogie2112Күн бұрын
It was also against the rules to give a second sword to a gladiator. When the fight was one against one, with one sword each, the combatants were on their own.

@domingocurbelomorales8635 When the emperor stabbed Maximus, you could see the look horror Quintus face.
@Cliffster420Сағат бұрын
Exactly. Quintus was actually an honorable man but a loyal soldier. He was only following orders in the beginning, but after seeing the horrible despicable character of Commodous cheating then being ordered to conceal the wound was where he decided to stop following an evil coward.

I love that Russell Crowe did all his own stunts and was an expert horseman. The wounds on his face in the beginning battle were real. The horse he was riding spooked and backed into branches of a tree. The director decided to leave them as battle wounds.

Armies of that size would have thousands of civilians with them. Cooks, merchants, Taylors, villages of people. They did also to make money off the army. No one starved.

Marcus Aurelius was played by the first Dumbledore, yes (Richard Harris). Harris appeared in the first two HP films, but later on died. Therefore, Michael Gambon continued playing Dumbledore in the rest of HP saga. Also, Richard Harris, had many stories of carousing and escapades with Peter O´Toole (and an incident with the aforementioned Oliver Reed).

Colosseum was the biggest arena of the world for almost 2000 years. Built in 80 AD but not surpassed until the stadium in London in 1908 for the Olympic Games.

The actor who played Proximo (the Gladiator trainer) was Oliver Reed. He was an extraordinary british actor, with a very interesting, fascinating and atypical life. He also was known for his alcoholism, having some scandals on TV and cinema as a consequence of this. During the filming of Gladiator in 1999, he sadly passed away. He had been sober for months, but one night (during a break from filming the movie) in an Irish pub in Malta (after a bet), he drank three bottles of Jamaican rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous double whiskeys and challenged five young English sailors of the Royal Navy to arm-wrestling at The Pub bar (which after this incident was called Ollie's Last Pub). His bill, which was never paid, is preserved in a decorative frame in the bar.

Marcus Ulpius Traianus and Publius Aelius Hadrianus (both from Hispania, actual Spain), were the best and greatest emperors of the Roman Empire. Marcus Aurelius was a great one, probably the most cultured and profound, having his written testimonies as reliable proof.

My favorite movie of all time! It’s an epic masterpiece! At the end, when he was fighting Commodus, Commodus lost his sword and he was telling all of the soldiers around him to give him a sword but Quintus finally chose the right side (Maximus’ side) and told all of the soldiers to sheathe their swords (keep their swords behind their shields) - basically telling them not to give him one. You guys seemed a little confused at that part. Also, the sequel revolves around Lucious (the boy - Lucilla’s son and Commodus’s nephew) 20-30 years after this.

The ones that were sent to kill him and his family were the emperors personal guard. Therefore, they had no loyalty to Maximus .

If I was his family I'd be pissed if I saw this dude in heaven. He should've took the Emperor's hand in that Camp, THEN escaped, and went to them. We all appreciate a man that wears his heart on his sleeves, but that inadvertently got them killed.

Another reason people would go to the Colosseum, free bread," Bread and Circuses" You got a show and free food when you attended. Also some seats had toilets built in, so you could eat and crap while watching people get killed in the name of entertainment and to help subdue the populus

There will never be a completely accurate depiction of Rome on TV or in a movie. No public baths, public toilets, or Vomitorium will probably ever be depicted as a part of Roman life period.
