Okay, rant time: How are we still not over the sub elitism?? Bugs the hell out of me how much the anime community shoots themselves in the foot when someone is actually enjoying a show only to get pushed out of the hobby by the chorus of voices crying out "BUT YOU'RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT!!!!!" Just let people enjoy it how they want! I use dubs for my videos because a lot of people don't watch, they just listen, so they won't understand if I play a clip with Japanese audio. That being said, i've watched a bit of the dub and sub and both are great. For the most part, you're just going to prefer the one you're more familiar with. /End rant

If I recall, the reason the Climatact isn't the magic bullet for Alabasta is mainly since it does take skill to use. Nami is very familiar with how weather conditions are formed so she can take advantage of the Climatact's properties but not on a wide scale. Ussop wouldn't know how to use it in the same way as Nami so he would write off the effects as a party trick. Additionally, by the end of Alabasta, the Climatact's effects aren't needed because the core issue of unrest and Crocodile's tyranny are solved. The water may have been the spark of the conflict but the real conflict always had to do with people and people working together to solve a systematic problem. Crocodile wanted to disrupt that process by pitting people against each other using the water issue, with the added bonus of removing a weakness to his own Devil Fruit powers.
@MixingMediaShow13 күн бұрын
Nami being extra familiar with weather patterns as a navigator makes a lot of sense! And it makes sense they'd go after crocodile as the root of the problem, but couldve been nice to have the water as they treked the desert

I gotta call you out for saying that Luffy beating Crocodile was anticlimactic. Luffy vs Crocodile is quite rare in anime because Luffy lost against the big bad two times before finally kicking his butt. Especially with the soundtrack using "From the New World" symphony with his new finisher. The whole point of having several rounds is that Luffy can't just use pure strength to win, he's gotta strategize and persevere. His will to keep going is why he won compared to Crocodile, who after losing once long ago decided to create an entire criminal syndicate and try to get a superweapon before doing anything else.

They're well loved but Cobymeppo is one of the only ones adapted to the anime, most are sadly Manga-only. Wapol gets one too, by the by. After Luffy, Vivi is my favorite character. She's a headstrong, idealistic princess who won't stop fighting, even if she's too weak to do anything. She's gungho going with Luffy at Little Garden. She's noble enough to take a bullet and not retaliate because she's understanding to the citizens. The suffering she goes through at Crocodile's hand is heart wrenching. And her sheer willpower through it all is heartwarming and inspiring. When she breaks down on top of the clocktower after Pell's sacrifice (yes, it's still a sacrifice even if he miraculously survives, I will always defend my falcon bro), I tear up every time. Huh, I never thought about the tech in the Clima-tact being used to help Alabasta, good point, thought I think at this point Usopp designed it to be a joke weapon, and Nami just figured out a way to use it effectively. There will come a point later on when it will be upgraded with tech from ElsewhereTM but that hasn't happened yet, I completely forgot the Clima-tact is from this early. After the upgrade you could argue that they don't have access to the materials they would need, but at Alabasta I think the explanation was that it was just a joke/trick weapon, and that it didn't actualy have very interesting tech in it.

@@MixingMediaShow It's not that it was supposed to end specifically after Alabasta, Oda originally envisioned a 5 year run time, which would've been reached right after Alabasta. As is often the case with stories, and doubly so in One Piece, he had so many ideas while writing the world that he just kept expanding on it endlessly. And here we are, almost 28 years later.
@chriscrookham334012 күн бұрын
The world is round but going reverse on the grand line is practically impossible. Reverse mountain is the entrance to the grandline, your saying going the opposite way should work. But you either have to climb this huge mountain with a boat or build one on the other end, then have a log pose, then hope the log pose connects, then is it the last island or the most important last island, there's so many questions to deal with trying to go in reverse and that includes stuff you don't know about yet about that part of the grandline. Just like the beginning explained the grandlines weather isn't normal, what makes you think the last bit is the same if not crazier. And again you need to climb a mountain and have a boat on the other end just to start that way. The red line is like the equator the grandline like the prime meridian. Not exactly but that's the idea

Besides that, how we saw it was only good in Nami's hands, cause if you remember there was a storm on the grandline, which is fundamentally unpredictable, which Nami managed to sense and get the crew out of the way.

The Koby Hlmeppo arc is actually something called a cover story... In the manga Oda sometimes uses multiple cover pages of each chapter to tell us short stories (with no dialog) of what the characters left behind each arc are doing and 99% of the time those stories eventually come back into the main plot some way or another... Like how mini buggy recovered his body met alvida and came to fins luffy in Loguetown... Sadly the anime for whatever reason stopped adapting those stories after Minibuggy and the Kobymeppo stories... apparently they felt a bit too fillery back when the anime still had content available without having to add tons of padding to it wasn't taken well by the viewers... which is sad since after tons of stories we NOW see how everything connects and the coverstories are WAY more interesting that they used to give them credit for way back then... The cover stories are 100% canon but not to be confused with the random fan request covers which are just random wacky scenes requested by fans in the mail to oda...
@riduanaqil14526 күн бұрын
Talking about the Koby and Helmeppo story, that is one of the two cover stories that the anime adapted. You would need to read the rest of the cover stories in the manga because they are somewhat important especially for the worldbuilding of One Piece. So, on how there's an "end" to the Grand Line: Reverse Mountain is considered the beginning of it, since it's the least dangerous way in, and it only lets out into one side of the Red Line, so the other side of the Red Line is considered the other end. Trying to get into the Grand Line any other way is incredibly dangerous, as the Calm Belts are completely lacking in currents and wind, and are also the nesting grounds of the Sea Kings, while the Red Line is so tall that being on top of it actually puts you above at least one cloud layer. Meanwhile, Reverse Mountain you just have to keep your ship running straight as the inescapable currents pull you through the canal (and also hope Laboon or a Warlord isn't sitting on the other side).

Couldn't disagree more about the Croc and Luffy fight. After 2 rounds of defeat, each evolving with new information on Crocodiles fruit uncovered, it all comes down to a bloody fist clenching claw for final victory by Luffy; showing a new level of pure drive to do anything it takes to surpass this man. Not to mention the anime's genius decision for the score on that final attack and pure artistry linking it with that final scene with Vivi and the rain ending the battle. Sorry I can't help getting impassioned haha, top 10 episode in the whole series In my humble opinion. Besides that, I really like how you picked up this story feeling like an after story for these characters! I completely agree and have been saying this for a while now. Not many other people seem to see it and/or think it's a flaw that we're not seeing some major shift in our mcs' persona aka "development" (not to say there won't be any). But that's what's so unique and interesting! the development has already happened or is resolved soon after joining/meeting Luffy. The story isn't about that, but instead their impact as incredible, strong willed people on the greater world around them!

So maybe if usopp had time and intellect and resources he could have made a more powerful climatact to solve the issue. also the strawhats aren't selfless, they wouldn;'t have even thought about solving the drought issue without good reason. remember, they only helped save Alabasta because Nami wanted treasure and eventually because Vivi was their friend. I've been reading it for more than 20 years, and i was around 4-5 yo at the time Been in love with this show forever, and i'm always happy to see other people get into it Considering the pacing (for example with the Crocodile fight), it only comes from the anime Since it's an adaptation, the pacing is really bad sometimes, for now it's ok even if it's less good than the manga, but at some point (more than episode 500+ so it's chill) i'll highly suggest you to keep going on with the manga, but that's in a long time ! Still i suggest you to check how it goes in the manga, a lot more satisfying for me ! And enjoy the rest of the story, you're in for one hell of a ride !

The animals in OP are wonderful. Give it up to my favorite: The KungFu Dugongs! For your Red Line/ Flat Earth Theory: Consider that reverse mountain is the "Safe" method of entering and leaving the Grand Line. You saw how violent the currents were. Imagine turning your ship and going against the current without an engine.
@MixingMediaShow13 күн бұрын
but could they land on the red line above/below the grand line and cross by land to the side next to Raftel? I guess they'd still have to go through the calm belt tho... idk I'm just thinking out loud
@Dublin.65513 күн бұрын
@ Possibly, but it'd be tricky I am sure. Also now that you know about navigation on the grand line, you'd also need some kind of log pose pointing to it anyway. You would need to get extremely lucky to find it by just sailing randomly.
@IftiharAbdillah-s3k13 күн бұрын
@@MixingMediaShow Well I think this is not a spoiler and rather just a worldbuilding explanation, when there's a political business going on between two kingdom from different Sea such as North Blue to East Blue where both oceans are divided by Red Line, they need a lot of resources, time, and budget just to get across the continent (Red Line is above cloud so yeah just imagine). And if they want to go under the Red Line, well just wait for the ocean to crush whatever you use and sea Leviathan to eat you. And yeah, you can actually get across Red Line
@Amehtta12 күн бұрын
@@MixingMediaShow There are several reasons why that's not feasible, but explaining any of them would be spoilers. "Why can't they just go over the red line and find raftel that way" IS a question that gets answered though, just not for a while. Definitely love your questions though, puzzling things out as you go is half the fun of one piece.

Alabasta was originally going to be the end of one piece, but there was so much story to tell Oda just kept going, and that’s where we are 20 odd years later
@SJNaka10112 күн бұрын
Okay so 5:10. The magnetic trails all lead to Lodestar, that is the final island, not raftel. No spoilers, but there's other mechanics involved in finding raftel that would prevent someone from being able to just go backwards over the red line and find it. So just wait for like... 600 episodes and youll learn more about it 😂
@riduanaqil14526 күн бұрын
The world of one piece is definitely round. The thing is that most people can get over the red line so the pirates usually starts their journey at the reverse mountain because that's the only way they get into the grandline. Later on you will understand a bit more about the grandline but right now all of the one piece community just assumes that the last island is on the other side of reverse mountain and we're gonna sail across the world right back to it.

You have to keep in mind that the anime pads out certain scenes and sometimes there are filler arcs and even filler scenes that don't exist in the manga. The anime has notoriously bad pacing, and in some future arcs i think it gets even worse. Just please keep that in mind, and don't judge One Piece or God-Oda-Sensei based on the anime's bad pacing!

@MixingMediaShow well, I used to be completely against the filler arcs, but now I've realized one piece has really good filler. It's not so much the filler I'm warning against, but the very bad pacing. I completely don't know anything about One Pace, but I personally would stay away from anything that possibly cuts out important canon material. For some reason, I thought One Pace cuts out a lot. But I guess I really don't know for sure

I've honestly never heard someone say that Alabasta was rushed, the only thing i do agree on is Koza's participation in the arc, it did feel like he was meant to have more screentime but didn't for some reason. If you the think the proper arc was rushed then you definitely should not watch the One Piece special called "Episode of Alabasta: The Princess and the Pirates" which is a remake of the arc with updated animation.... but at the same time it skips several moments that gives the arc it's nuance.

The "Kobymeppo" mini-arc, same as earlier with Chibi-Buggy, are what we call "Cover Stories". Oda uses the cover of each chapter to catch us up with what's going on with the rest of the world. Some of them have been adapted into the anime, but many haven't and will not ever. For example, since you already finished Alabasta: How on earth did Fullbody and Jango ended up working together? Well, Oda did show that in a cover story Toei did not adapt into the anime. So I recommend that, if only watching the anime, you do check those out. Also, worth mentioning, it's the second time you see Morgan after his arc. The other time was in Kuro's backstory, during Syrup Village. He is the Marine with a broken arm and jaw Jango hypnotizes into believing he captured Kuro. That's how he made it into Captain, and that can also be what completely messed up his personality: He became the hero who single-handedly captured "Kuro of the Thousand Plans".

Yo! The difference in voice actors is absolutely noticeable, but I enjoyed both of the voice actors for each of them! Watch whatever you want to watch it in ❤❤

I actually like the fact that Luffy vs Crocodile got seperated into like 3 parts because everytime Luffy loses, Crocodile steps closer to his goal and I think that adds some tension for Luffy to defeat him but I totally get if you feel like it's a bit anticlimactic. Also, I didn't even remember about the Hero Drink thing until a few days ago but I think that's just a concept Oda was experimenting with in the early stages of his story and I'm actually kinda glad it's there because of what it might mean to the world at large. You'll start connecting little dots from the early part of the story that you didn't even notice as you along.

10:17 Warrior culture does exist and it is ingrained in the histories of humanity, as similar to HUNTING, SPORTS and EXPLORING culture. If anybody says that they don't like Dorry and Brogy's fighting, I do wonder if they do not like watching sports, because why do people battle in sports? For a trophy? Of course it's for fun, enjoyment, self-confidence... In ancient times, sports are done for honor, social status, religious ceremonies (elbaf religion?), etc. You may not understand or like it but you have to respect it.

The world is a globe. The Red line go around the entire world. Now technically they are very close to the "end" at Reverse Mountain but a normal ship cant get there due to the currents, and if using other methods you end with the second big problem which is that you are at the end of the ocean without a way to navigate to any island. And there is even bigger challenges at that point that I will not describe due to spoilers. Also the "final island" may not be close to the reverse mountain, it is just the final point where all the log poses will end at some point (note that there are other points where routes can align with each other). Now way later there is an extra info dump about this that will makes things clearer on why nobody was able to actually reach Raftel, however you are too green for it

I'd say this applies to future crewmates aswell.

@@MixingMediaShow He's 100% making biblical references. He makes a ton, though not because he's particularly religious. Someone else mentioned in another comment that he's a history buff, and he is, but he's ALSO a huge mythology nerd, and Oda treats Christianity as just another mythology to pull inspiration from, so you'll definitely encounter bible references scattered about just like you'll find Greek Mythology, Norse Mythology, Indian Mythology, etc. etc. It's honestly fascinating the way he uses different mythologies to connect different plot lines and background stories between various arcs.

Just a quick note: Oda doesn't write for the anime, and has little influence over how they choose to do things. The anime follows the manga closely in major events and story, but puts in a LOT of padding to fill out episodes and that affects both characterization and the narrative tension quite a lot. One of the major assets is the voice acting though, so I'd really recommend watching it subbed (I get if you're not able to, just in case you have the opportunity). It makes quite a difference!
@MixingMediaShow6 күн бұрын
that's surprising to me given how closely the anime follows the manga (other than the added filler)
@derivate_lang6 күн бұрын
@@MixingMediaShow Yeah, Oda mentioned it in the Q&A sections that are published in the manga volumes because he used to get a lot of questions about what the anime does (from Japanese fans). He said that he doesn't have any influence, except when they write to him and ask about specific things (like if they can use a certain devil fruit power in a filler arc and similar). The reason for the filler is mostly the format: it was slotted to air every week all year around so they had to take measures to stretch the episodes in order to not catch up to the manga. It's not that they were looking for stuff to change, more that they had to find something to fill the time. The added filler in One Piece can be hard to spot since so much of it is scenes in otherwise canon episodes rather than whole filler arcs. Usually it makes characters get lost a few extra times or take a few rounds longer understanding something not working in a fight, that sort of thing. It's only really noticeable as a buildup, when all the little things are put together. But a lot of small things can shift impressions a lot, sometimes. There's a group called One Pace who cuts all the filler, and if you want to compare a shorter segment try and check out their version of Logue Town, since you've already seen it (or read the manga, it's like three chapters) to see the difference.

"Couldn't you just cross the Red Line and be at Raftel right away" Theoretically? Sure. Two problems: 1- You can't "just" cross the Red Line. It is HUGE. Reverse Mountain is basically the only access point, and it only exits on the one side. It is not feasible to scale this wall, especially not with your ship. 2- Even if you somehow do... You'll just end up in the ocean. Nobody knows exactly where Raftel is, and the Ocean is massive. It can take weeks to go from one island to the next. They do also elaborate on this, much later in the story. That's all I can say.

Good vid, loving the addition of the historical mixer. These are how I take these things, so don't assume what I'm saying is either a spoiler or criticism. With Luffy taking a while to feel the cold, i think this is because his body is rubber; an insulator. With Usopp's invention, he couldn't save Alabasta as it creats local temperature differences using dial technology; essentially using a burning dial for heat, and a breath dial for cooling. It can produce heat and cold but it can't really add moisture to the atmosphere; so if it were to be used on the same scale as raindance powders effectiveness it would have the same bad effects. This is all in my own headcanon so don't take me as fact.

Granted this isn’t me saying dub is bad or that it shouldn’t be watched, if that’s peoples preference, then they can watch dub if they like, but it still makes me disappointed. It’s a bit of a pet peeve of mine, that’s why not just listening to it is all that matters, some stuff is shown, but not stated, and people who multitask risk missing something.

If people don’t like the dub or don’t prefer it, then they don’t have to. I think the dub is good for what it is, but personally I just like the sub way more because I think it does everything better. But that doesn’t mean I hate dub. The voices for the most part sound good apart from a couple, and the acting is good too. People just get hung up on hating the dub for no reason. It’s simple, if you don’t like or prefer dub, then don’t watch it and just let others watch it who do prefer it alone. Sorry, that was a ramble.
