My 16 year old daughter was chastised by her young adult manager when she had to tell her that she she couldn’t work on a certain day bc we were going out of town. The manger told her she was dependent on her and very disappointed that she couldn’t come in on that particular day. And how irresponsible it was of her to tell her she needed that particular day off. My daughter looked at her and reminded her that she was a child and doesn’t get to decide if she goes on family trips or not. When we got back from our trip she had been completely removed from the schedule by that manager. My husband had to go up there to talk to the GM, who had no idea about any of this and ended up firing that manager.

I guarantee the day shifters would never get out of bed at 1am and go to a meeting at 2am! So we all (night shifters) decided none of us would go to the meetings bc they couldn’t fire all of us! They finally changed it to 7:15am so it was right when we got off of work!

I got fired from my first job at a bakery when I was 14… because I set the place on fire (by accident). So I accidentally put something in the microwave that doesn’t belong in there and that’s when it went wrong. Obviously I got fired, but the funniest part is that the bakery couldn’t make me accountable for the fire or get anything back from the insurance because I wasn’t even allowed to work there. I was 14 and the company just thought it’d be a good idea to hire kids illegally for €1 an hour. The working conditions at that place were really terrible too.

It’s their responsibility to make sure their equipment is maintained and safe. The fact the desk cave in like it was just cardboard taped together is extremely unsafe and costs WAY more to replace that electrical hardware than to fix the current desk, or replace it. Same can be said for the girl fired from target because it was THEIR job to tell her NOT to mix them, and they were the ones who gave her those cleaning products to work with in the first place.

The parttime gig knew I also worked fulltime elsewhere, but still would insist on scheduling me all willy-nilly with no regard to my previously disclosed availability. When I couldn't work on a specific day that was important to them, they fired me. So, they didn't get me working on that important day or any other days, which was somehow better for them? K.

Back in the 80's I took a little part time job as the biscuit cook for a local McDonalds. Basically, I made the dough every morning for the day and cut the fresh salads. It turned into a full time job but they eventually hired this girl as my relief so I could return to part time. I trained her for a week and her 1st day alone I got a call at about 6:30am. It was the manager asking if I'd come in as an emergency because she had been fired. I got there about 7:30 and the store was still closed. I walked inand they had people on ladders in the lobby cleaning the ceiling. They never explained what she had done but there was dough from one end of the store to the other and all over the ceilings and stoves and the kitchen drain was clogged with dough and it was even on the menu sign above the registers. They were't able to open until noon.

They already knew when I went home for the winter break and we had already gotten through black friday. They also knew when I was coming back in January which was a week prior to classes starting. Well anyway- they emailed copies of the schedule to everyone in case we needed to switch shifts. I guess basically everyone called off New Years Eve and I was put on the schedule for the closing shift when I was three hours away at home for break and again *they knew this*. I called them and reminded them and they said "oh well its only 4 hours" and I said, I'll be driving more than I'm working and those 4 hours aren't even enough to pay for my gas to get there and back (since i was making $7.25 an hour). Can I just say that I felt that girl so much about Targettttt! Omgoodness, OH MY GOODNESS! She is not lying when she said, that job had her depressed & had her talking about it to her therapist. I worked at Target & they were complete A-HOLES to me. Had me to where I couldn't sleep at night, worried about if I was going to be called upstairs by management every damn day. I lost so much weight from the stress of it all. They make you do so much work in so little time. They thought they were doing something because they wanted to be one of the 1st companies paying staff that $15 an hr rate by 2020. But they would add more work load, & cut your schedule in half. Instead of getting your work done in a regular 8 hr shift, they cut the shift to 4 hrs, but still expected you to get that 8 hrs worth of workload done. But they had favorites. Certain people, they were ok with not getting their work done, & others would be written up. Don't get me started on the micromanaging! Omg, so many managers.. way to many managers, all trying to tell you what to do. It was HELL.....

Don't mix cleaning chemicals unless you have done your research. Fabuloso doesn't have ammonia in it but it does have another chemical that similarly reacts with bleach producing chlorine gas.

Charlotte, I love your t-shirt!! I can understand why the woman that mixed Bleach and Fabuloso (or any household disinfectant) together was fired. If happened in a closed off are people could have been in danger (including death) including herself. I find it *very* odd that they didn't give her basic health and safety training. That's supposed to be an OSHA requirement, especially in large brand stores like Target. While the enforcement of these are usually voluntary because lobbyists love a loophole - it's still a tax issue. That's why they kept her paperwork too, cause she could have sued them. She should still.

6:40 Had something similar happen to me when I was in high school. I worked at, let's say, Golden Arches. Graduation was coming up within a couple of weeks and I asked foe that Saturday morning off. I always worked Sat mornings because I was the only one who didn't protest working that early on a weekend. But, while others were sleeping in, I was getting off early enough to go have fun. Regardless, the manager came up to me a few days before graduation and said she couldn't give me the morning off as too many people had already requested that day off and they would be understaffed. I told her I wasn't missing my graduation and she said she'd have to fire me if I didn't show. So, I went to graduation and came Ina. couple of days later with my "uniform" to return it. She tried to backtrack and tell me I wasn't fired and I could keep my job. I just said "no", handed her the clothes and left. That was 30-something years ago and I still haven't been back to that Golden Arches.

Crazy restaurant managers are a timeless phenomenon! I worked at one restaurant briefly when I was in college. This was pre mobile phone days. I gave the manager the times I was available to work according to my class schedule. This eejit kept trying to change my schedule when she knew I wasn't available. One day I came home to a load of messages from her on the answering machine angrily demanding I come in immediately because they were short staffed and I was needed. As though she thought I was just sitting about at home all day for her convenience when she had my schedule. 😂😂😂 I phoned back and quit. Got a much better job straight after.

I lasted 6(?) wks there. We had a horrible manager whose 16yr old daughter worked there. Or, well, she showed up, but never worked. She got more hours than those of us who actually had bills, tattled to mommy if anyone tried to make her do anything, came through the drive-thru w/her friends demanding/expecting free food for ALL of them. Hated me b/c I always rang it up but then the front window would void it out. Mom-manager was a total b-word. I put in my 2wks then a wk in slept through a shift that started at 2PM 😂 I turned in my uniform in the drive-thru & the shift lead told me, "You may not wanna leave like this, you might need this job one day" "I'll live in my car before I ever work here again" And I damn near did but never considered going back to work there 😄

It never ceases to amaze me how companies think they have the right to assert power over you outside of work hours! I get the social media thing if, like Charlotte said, it is filmed at work, in work uniform, or reflects badly on the company (ie racism) but if none of that applies, ITS NONE OF THE COMPANY'S BUSINESS!! 🙄😒

Way back in the 80’s I was 16 and had a job at McDonald’s. I requested time off because my family was going out of state for something. Get the new schedule, I’m of course scheduled to work the day I requested off. I go to the scheduling manager to fix it and I’m told it’s just a request. (Now just a little back story, I worked every shift they asked, came in early, stayed late, covered double and a couple times triple shifts…I was a worker they could always call and rarely asked off) I was 🤬🤬. I just told him, I’m under 18, when my parents tell me I’m going somewhere, I don’t have a choice. I would suggest you find someone else to work that shift because I won’t be here. I guess he complained to the store manager, but was told to leave me alone.
