Reacting to Percy Jackson episode 2 was such a blast!!! I’ve never read the books and I know nothing about the world, so watching episode 2 of the amazing Percy Jackson tv show was so incredible! Percy discovering camp half-blood for the first time and meeting Annabeth, Luke, and Clarisse was sooo exciting and fun to watch!!

Fun fact Dior's scream actually scared Walker in real life, he really thought she was going to hurt him. When you go back and watch the scene you can see real fear in his eyes when she screamed and grabbed him.

I don't know if someone else already commented this or not, but Aryan (the actor who plays Grover) learned/trained himself to walk on the balls of his feet and did it for 10 months while they filmed and would even walk that way off set. He said Walker and Leah had to keep reminding him he didn't need to walk funny when they weren't filming and that it was hard for him to adjust to walking normally again when they wrapped filming lol

Walking on the balls of our feet is actually the most natural way we can walk. Babies begin that way. Shoes and cultural expectations teach us as kids to walk on our heels. I used to tiptoe till I hit high school (that’s a really long time compared to normal people). Squeaky shoes sounded even squeakier on me. 😅

There are very specific shoes these days that can help if a child does 24/7 walk on the balls of their feet... It's very common for autistic children to do this and so I really only seen autistic children have these types of shoes online... It's like a shoe but also a brace so that they don't walk that way... So no, I wouldn't say that it's "the most natural way to walk" as it can fuck your feet and tendons and muscles up pretty significantly. But yeah you are right a lot of kids do START walking this way but they do eventually grow out of it before it can become an issue.

In the book Mr. D doesn't even want to deal with having a forbidden child in camp and literally threatens Percy to leave for the quest or be turned into a dolphin and sent to his father. Because he didn't want to deal with the surge of monsters that would appear close to camp because of Percy's existence there being claimed. Dionysus in mythos created dolphins. So he could do that. He even states that the second option is the more merciful option. Because he thinks if Percy went on the quest he won't come back alive.

Also the reason Annabeth pushes Percy into the water, is because she had a theory he was the son of either Zeus or Poseidon. Being a daughter of Athena the goddess of Wisdom she is all about figuring stuff out and making strategies and theories. Putting him in the water was a quick way to see if he would have water powers giving her an answer. Because in the bathroom scene with Clarisse she wasn't completely sure yet. And as you can see the water healed him. Now that he is claimed he will uncover more about himself as a son of the sea god.

Mr. D might not be the kindest man, but there’s one throwaway line in later books outside of the main series that tells readers that he is objectively the best godly parent. Most readers miss it because it’s only one line, if I remember correctly, but it makes me laugh whenever people try to start discussions on what it would feel like to be a Dionysus kid in camp. His twin boys actually grew up very loved by both parents lol…

One of my favorite things about her is that shes an antagonist currently in the story, but shes not a villain. If a monster had shown up, she and Percy would have teamed up to kick its ass in a heartbeat because they are both heroes. Like shes a schoolyard bully, but they are ultimately on the same side and the idea of them fighting together is very cool

Your question about Clarisse's initiation of Percy is interesting cause the answer varies from book to show. In the book, she's very transparent about the fact that she does this to all the newbies. Annabeth, who is showing Percy around camp (in the daytime) when she drags him off to the bathroom, pulls and kicks at her to try to slow her down, but Clarisse is too strong. In the show, Clarisse seems to be intimidated by Percy's run-in with the Minotaur and is insecure about the glory it'll bring him (a concept that wasn't as big a deal in the books). She does have that line about how "every kid comes here and thinks they're special," so I assume she's given other newbies special treatment before, but it seems to be more on an individual basis, depending on how threatened she feels by them. At least that's my interpretation!

Chiron isn't actually CGI in centaur form, he rode a real horse and then they edited out the horse head and shifted his torso over. And yes, Aryan, Grover's actor, had to learn how to walk like a goat in the show, he talks about it in a bunch of interviews. Also, Annabeth adjusting his armor strap was also improv. People not being excited about Percy being a forbidden child is because there are bad things that comes with that. Percy exists because his dad broke a sacred oath to not have more demigod children, and in the books this means Percy tends to attract more monsters and more dangerous monsters, as if the fates are trying to punish his dad through him since they can't kill an immortal god. And in regards to Clarisse, the spear was a gift from her Dad. I won't say much, but if they greenlight a second season you'll be seeing a lot more of her :)

Annabeth has been at camp since she was SIX YEARS OLD…. The beads on the camper’s necklaces represent every summer they’ve spent at camp. She, along with most demigods, has had a very rough past.

5:52 They're already posting small snippets of behind the scenes per episode but I think they said they're going to release a sort of like documentary of the whole filming process after the finale, around the end of January. Can't wait for it! 9:46 I love that you're already seeing this reoccuring theme throughout the whole series early. Percy questioning the system. The writers really planted seeds of things that will be brought up in future seasons. This will be a big part of Percy's motivations and how he will choose to act on it is one of his heroe's journey. 12:18 It's because Apollo kids are naturally gifted in archery so they already know he's not Apollo's just from one try.

I'd go for archery. Also to answer your question about age and when you end up at camp. It all depends on when a half-blood is found by monsters and then realizes that the monsters are after them specifically. Realizing you aren't normal is the big beacon for monsters. And camp is the only place you are safe. A satyr will guide you there but there isn't any real say if all demigods make it to camp, most likely not. In the books it's plainly stated that Percy sees kids ranging from as young as 7 to as old as 16. The writer wanted to emphizes that these are children, who are forced into a hero role. By fate and by godly intervention, or sabotage. Also because the greek gods are very fickle and glory obsessed. It's very apparent that being a demi-god isn't ideal. Just like how Percy talks about in the starting scene of episode 1. "If you think you are a half-blood, turn away now. While you can." Unlike being a wizard in Harry's world. You aren't supposed to see half-bloods as lucky. They have a lot to live up to. Some strive to be seen by their godly parents, and some have complicated relationships. But all have no choice but to fight for their lives in some way. For instance, the reason Clarisse yells after the spear is broken by Percy. She does so because that spear was given to her by her father Ares. It's one of the few possessions from him she has. And much like Annabeth she cherishes that. It also explains her need to be the best camper in order to try to get Ares attention. Percy coming in as a new exciting addition, is a threat to her keeping her father's attention in her mind. But yeah you can still hate her for being so mean.

The whole point of gaining glory for the children at camp half blood is not so that they can gloat it over each other so much is that it gets their parents attention. Clarisse is so mad that Percy has already defeated monsters because her father gave her that spear and then has never talk to her since.

Yet again, I love your reactions and I'm excited to see more! I'm not going to spoil character arcs/how to feel about characters cause they are very plot important. I love how Luke and Clarisse are being portrayed in this show, it's very much like how they are in the books. the following is a 10 things i comment on lol. 1. ok they don't really explain Chirons wheelchair in the show but it's one of my things! It's a magical item, think of those tents in HP where it's bigger on the inside! i only watch the movies cause of my sister so i don't really know all that much about it lol. 2. Is grover in a cult, haahah. That's the council of cloven elders, they are like the rulers of the satyrs and in charge of their like quests and stuff. 3.sally being blipped. Spoilers :D 4.the freaky voice, you're not wrong........ idk if they'll explore it, it's been a while since i've read the books but who that is is something more for the later books. 5.Glory = parental recognition. All these kids have mommy and daddy issues! 6. aaah the burning candy scene is one of my fav changes from the book, i love how the changed his relationship with his parents 7. I love the bathroom scene so much, in both the book and the show! 8. there's no real age limit for demigods, although most get there around tweens you can be older or younger. they do get hurt, a lot. but that's part of being a demigod, most don't get a happy ending. 9. I love what they did with capture the flag so much. It's slightly different from the books but gets the vibes right. Clarisse is an amazing character, she has some really cool scenes in the later books. the electric spear was a gift from her father Ares, the god of war. 10. I like how they are adapting Percy's opinions of the gods, in the books a bit more of a fanboy for his dad, at least at the start hahah. i love the I'm Sally Jacksons son line soooo much.

18:00 These kids are getting hurt all the time. There is very little, if any, safety nets or procedures. They just get thrown in to the deep end. Also in the books, there are two climbing walls that shake, drop boulders, smash together, and spew lava. They do have magic ways of healing them, and kids rarely die while in camp, but they are constantly getting injured, and that's just normal there.

And he does fight it. It actually turns out that “the dementor” is one of the biggest threats in all of Greek Mythology. And Luke is an *interesting* character. I’ll just leave that there. You’ll see what I mean towards the end of the season, but he’s *interesting* ,so don’t solidify your opinions just yet. Also, going off of your remarks at 24:55, this is a recurring theme, but the gods are *the most dysfunctional family ever* . They *suck* at communicating, especially like *adults* . This will be shown especially when you get to Ep. 5 that just aired yesterday. Also, being claimed by Poseidon is kind of a bad thing because they’re in *tons* more danger than everyone else. Since Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades have their pact to not have kids, the monsters that want to kill most demigods REALLY want them dead.

I love that your first description of Mr D was that he reminded you of Gabe, because in the book that was also Percy's first thought, along with roasting the guy Same thing with you saying Clarisse reminded you of Nancy, that's one of Percy's first thoughts as well. It's fun seeing a non-book reader reacting to the show =} Editing while I watch: I love you just calling Chiron Dumbledore haha And, about what skill I'd pick up on if I were in percy jackson, I've always liked archery and rock climbing!! I'm actually surprisingly good at archery I think - though I'd probably take a bit to get used to using a different kinda bow than what I've used in the past And, rock climbing is really fun!! And you can join camp at any age - it's usually around 11 or 12 but some campers show up earlier and some show up later. Some demigods give off more powerful auras(?) and attract more monsters, while others can escape notice for much longer Edit 3: the little lizard Percy pets during capture the flag is a crested gecko! Not important or anything, but hey one of your questions I can answer lol Edit 4: the gods claiming their child by putting their symbol over their heads is, I think, one of tje more common ways of doing it, yes! Not gonna spoil but that's not the only way demigods get claimed by their parents =} Final edit: this is so fun!! I am loving your reactions to this show! I think this series is a fantastic adaptation and I'm glad you're loving it as much as I am! This episode is such a good introduction to a lot of great characters! Annabeth is amazing, of course. When it comes to the other campers like Luke and Clarisse and even Chris (that's Luke's friend), I was worried that their characters might get watered down since they're not part of the ~Main Trio~ and that sometimes happens in book-to-screen adaptations. But they were written and casted SO WELL, they still play an important part and those actors are really putting their hearts into these roles, it really helps bring this world to life! Grover is SUCH a sweetheart and I love that he broke the rules to tell Percy the truth about his mom. Percy found out a little differently in the books but I'm glad they did it this way, it shows what a true friend Grover is 🥰 Also I gotta say, I love Mr. D! Or at least, I love to hate him, like with Clarisse. Like yeah, he's a huge jerk to Percy, but he's so funny about it 😂

Since you mentioned the Harry Potter Musical, you should check out the Percy Jackson Musical (The lightning thief) after you finished the series. It also covers the events of the first book, but some of the songs give so much insight to their struggels and trauma. Like Percy just trying to be a good son to his mom, but feeling like he constantly fails her. (Sally would never say that or make him feel like that, but he still does) Or Annabeths who wants to go on a quest and get the attention of her mom. Or Grovers trauma after what happend to Thalia that he still feels guilty for... so good

There’s actually also a Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief the musical. The music is incredible and the comedy is one point. It’s hilarious. If you want to watch it you could probably find a recording somewhere KZbin. But you should wait till the end of the season before you look into it because you would get spoiled for some major stuff later on. Also the Agents of Shield line is my favorite line in the show. It really hit different for me and helped me a lot through a pretty difficult time. I actually have your shirt with that quote on it and I wear it like all the time. The capture the flag fight is a bit different as Percy actually fights all of them standing in the water, not on the beach. The rest is basically the same, he breaks the sword, blue team wins, annabeth notice a cut on his arm fades then tell him to step out of the water where he feels tired. This is where it switches again. A Hellhound get through the boundary and attacks/almost kills Percy. The campers kill the hellhound, and annabeth then tells Percy to get into water. His wounds heal and the trident appears. I’m guessing they thought the Hellhound would be to gory/violent for PG. Also it shows that someone had to summon it inside, monster can only enter with permission.

There is a reason why Chiron and Mr D didn't want Percy to know his mom was in Hades. Because the master bolt search has a deadline. They need finding the master bolt to be Percy's MAIN priority because he only has a week to do it... And they know that if Percy knew his mother was still alive ...Saving his mother would be his first priority...not the masterbolt. So yeah Grover technically did do the morally right thing as a friend of Percy's ...but he kind of fucked up their "find the master bolt before a week is up so the entire world doesn't end" plan.

Hopefully ppl don’t spoil in the comments but when Luke says we feel for you. All these kids in camp have gone through hell just like Percy. In the books, people don’t tell Percy or others the full truth because it makes things worse. You have to let fate happen. In an interview, Grover said he had to learn how to walk like a goat. Clarice…I won’t get into her much cuz they might talk more about her so I don’t want to spoil. But yes, the spear is a gift from her father. These kids don’t see their godly parent much. They want to be seen by them so any present is special to them. The quest will be explained more. Glad you dislike Mr. D. He’s not really supposed to be liked. He’s at a camp and is the head guy. He’s been punished by Zeus to be there for like 100 years or so. He also can’t drink/party or anything he is a god of. He was caught ummmm “frolicking” with some tree nymph and caught by Zeus. Also, after this season check out the podcast The Newest Olympian. He read the books and breaks down the chapters if you don’t want to read the books. The age they join the camp depends. i forgot if they said it in the show but in the books, Grover says, "they never get past 6th grade." meaning that he has tried to get a lot of different kids to camp too, and they don't get past the age 12 usually. The kids of the big three (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades) are more likely to attract the monsters while other kids who don't attract them, like Aphrodite's kids, can last much longer alone in the living world. I might be wrong, it's been a while since i read the books. I am already training archery and a while ago i won a teen tournament! this isn't relevant but i js wanted to share it. also, i love how Luke is shown like a big brother figure but he is definitely.... something. personally I have a theory that he care a lot more then he lets on ( there are a few events in the books that show this in my opinion). Also as far as mythology goes Dionysus was himself a demigod at one point who became a god, and therefor knows far better than any of the other gods just how dangerous their lives are, so I personally feel like he intentionally messes up their names ( which we know is the case as the there’s the occasional times where he does use their proper names) and treats them that way to keep them at a distance so that he won’t be as affected if anything happens to them. 😁

So, you seem to like fun (non-spoilery) facts, so here goes: Mr. D, or Dionysus, is serving a century long banishment to camp for getting a little too close to a nymph Zeus had declared off limits. As the god of wine, the sobriety is leaving him perpetually grumpy and irritated. Allegedly he is the camp director, but Chiron’s the one actually running things. Demigods being able to circumvent his prohibition and him tricking Percy into thinking he’s his dad to get Percy to fetch wine is show-original, but not out of line, and sets up the plot point that demigods can do things gods can’t (like steal lightning bolts). Luke Castellan’s mom isn’t dead, but she did cross the wrong god and ended up with a fate worse than death. She was cursed, and occasionally has mad fits that understandably freaked the shit out of young Luke, so he ran away at a young age. As far as he’s concerned, Annabeth is the only family he has left, so he sympathizes with Percy losing everyone. Blue food is a running joke between Percy and his mom. It’s his favorite color, and at one point Gabe gets into an argument with her that blue food doesn’t exist. So she went out of her way to get all the blue food she could for percy - blue pancakes, blue cookies, blue birthday cakes, blue candy - everything blue she could. Also, funny you call Sally a queen. Poseidon also called her a queen among mortals - and offered to build her an underwater palace. She declined, because she didn’t want to be given everything in life - she wanted to earn it. But she did ask for a child, and Poseidon broke his oath not to father more children for her (it’s implied it wasn’t a normal pregnancy. Met at summer cabin, short affair, Percy’s birthday in August…) That voice in Percy’s nightmare is described in the book as sounding “like a knife scraping over stone”. I think the show did an excellent job portraying the chilling voice. That dryad (tree nymph) that Grover interacts with is show original. Even I don’t know who it is - possibly his mother (satyrs are male counterparts to nymphs), but confirmed to not be his girlfriend (he has a thing for a particular Juniper). Clarisse La Rue is the daughter of Ares the god of war, who we get to see later on in quite possibly my favorite episode yet. She inherited a lot of his tough attitude, but also has a lot of expectations going for her. Breaking her electric spear - which you correctly guessed was a gift from her dad - made her understandably pissed because Ares does not look kindly on weakness. Later books expand on her insecurities having to constantly prove herself to him and always being derogatorily compared to his sons (Ares is a bit of a sexist jerk like that). Percy being claimed now, by Poseidon, at a time when Zeus suspects Poseidon of having stolen the master bolt is a pretty big deal likely to infuriate Zeus. It’s understandable people are giving him strange looks over this. Your guesses continue to be on point on a lot of things - a credit both to you for being clever and the show for being clear.

I am a huge fan of the books and I am super excited to see new people experienceing something that's so special to me and so many others for the first time. I will say I'm always surprised when people expect the Gods to be sympathetic with the demigods. That kind of empathy or understanding is expected from other characters, so it makes sense to be wanting that from these characters as well, but I'm always super surprised to find that people expect the same high standard for empathy from the Gods as they do with the other characters. I mean, they're immortal and "all powerful"; so, they don't care about people's feelings, they don't have time to be friendly or empathetic, and they won't claim responsibility for their actions (AKA: their kids) unless it benifits them. It's explained more in depth in the books, but demigods generally deal with their parents being callused because they're Gods and generally deserve respect due to their power over everything. But if they aren't treated like the Gods they are, then they will go out of their way to make their kid's lives more difficult then they already are. For example, in the Odyssey, Odysseus blinded Posiden's son polyphemus, and polyphemus prayed to Poseiden, cursing Odysseus, and so Poseidon made sure that he made Odysseus' journy home to Ithica a thousand times more difficult. That's not the best example for the Gods ignoring their children, but it is a good example of the Gods not tolerating disrespect. It sucks that they kind of suck, but they truly believe they're entitled to anything and deserve only the utmost respect - because they kind if are, and they kind of do - that's also why I think everyone else doesn't bother questioning them because they're scared of making them upset. This is another reason why I and so many people love Percy Jackson so much, because he's not afraid to ask incriminating questions about the Gods, and he's not afraid to challenge the God's authority and go against what is expected of him, to stand up for what he believes in. I don't know if this answered any questions you had, but I wanted to give you my opinion on why the Gods act like that. I am really loving you're first time reactions to the Percy Jackson series, and I love to hear new fan's first impressions and theories about where the story will go. It's super fun and really refreshing to see the excitement and love for this series develop for a new fan! I can't wait to see you're reactions to episodes 3, 4, and 5!

I also think Clarisse is like that because yeah her father is the god of war (Ares) but imagine trying to win a little bit of your father's attention though glory and working hard all those years (yes she got a magic spear as a gift from him but that's it) just to see a younger kid k*lling a minotaur his very first day and reciving all that attention, I would be mad too
