From my understanding (aka from what I read from twitter) Season 1 was entirely Book 1 in the "Shadow and Bone" series, Season 2 was Book 2 and 3 combined and it introdocued the beginnings of the "Six of Crows" Duology book series AND the sprinklings of the "King of Scars" Duology

This show is Shadow & Bones trilogy with Six of Crows characters added to the story, as they are not in the S&B books at all. The plot of the show is also different from the trilogy in some major ways. Lots of similarities, obviously, but I see the books and the show as pretty distinct entities now. Loved your reactions! I read that if they do a Season 3, they would keep the changed and/or new plotlines from Seasons 1 & 2 and add them to the King of Scars duology and tell the story of those two books in a way that would make sense given their changes and additions. They also might do a 1 season spinoff of Six of Crows. At this point, given how they have integrated them into S&B, I could see 1 season being enough to a condensed version of the duology. Love your reactions as always! :)

*A few notes to help you out* (I read the other comments first to make sure no one had answered you yet): 3:00 If you rewatch S01, you should learn that Nina is Ravkan. In the books, Zoya was her superior officer in the Second Army. Canonically, this part of Nina's past takes place during the Grisha trilogy ("Shadow and Bone" et al). She wasn't able to finish her training and was forced into the field early because the war between Alina and the Darkling broke out while she was still in school. Because they inserted Nina's backstory with _Matthias_ from "Six of Crows" into S01, which happens after the war when Nina is older, this detail is omitted from the show. And that's changed the story somewhat: Nina and Zoya are still old comrades, but because Nina is now closer in age to Zoya, this Nina has served under the Darkling rather than under Zoya. In S01, the Conductor calls Nina "a radical" who "thinks Grisha should get to choose" whether they serve in the Second Army. Later, the Darkling mentions to Alina that Nina is his spy, and out on a job from him. It's left ambiguous whether she's really a radical (ergo, a deserter like Mal) or if that's merely her persona for this job; because she's kidnapped by the Fjerdans, we don't find out what her task was and whether she would've chosen to complete it. Zoya's dialogue here doesn't clear things up, either, because Zoya has no idea Nina was kidnapped. So maybe Nina _is_ a deserter with her own agenda; but maybe Nina was presumed AWOL rather than MIA when she was abducted. The books can't be totally relied upon to help us interpret the show, because the changes to the timeline have created differences in plot progression and character arcs. (Meaning even the book fans don't know if Ravka is still a priority for Nina in the show; we just infer it used to be, since her being a spy has remained the same.) But I hope this helps explain why they know each other well enough that, if Nina did desert, Zoya would take it personally.

While watching this show and reading the books, I hoped Alina would end up with Nikolai. But when I read the King of Scars and The Rule of the Wolves.... my feelings changed 🫠 If you ask me what is the best book that I have read, my answer will always be the Six of Crows😍

44:25 It's an adaptation-induced plot hole. Freeing Matthias from Hellgate can *only* happen prior to the Heist, because that's gotta be in their "assembling the team" montage. So while a lot of the Crows' plot in S02 is pure fanfiction, S02 is identical to S01 in that most of the canon Crow content we're getting is their backstories. In the books, these are all depicted as flashbacks; but in the show, we're getting Nina and Matthias's story in real time. Nina is going to Hellgate alone, because in the books, this takes place _before_ she gets involved with the Crows. Wylan's backstory is the only one we haven't seen yet, but it's been heavily foreshadowed. For example, if we get the spin-off, your question regarding why he can't read but can do advanced chemistry should be answered. That's why I won't tell you about it: I'm happy to help connect the dots when the screenwriters drop the ball, but I won't spoil you. :)

So here is the connection to the books. Season one is based on the first book of the Shadow and bone trilogy, and the crow plot is more or less made up for the show. The first four parts of the second season are based on the second book of the trilogy, and the plot of the crows is based on the second book of the Six crows, the rest of the second season is based on the third book of trilogy and the plot of the crows is again made up. According to the last part of season two, the third season should focus on the first book of the Six of crows and the new duology King of scars that follows the original trilogy, where Nikolai, Zoya and Genya are the main characters. But there are a lot of big changes in the show compared to the book, especially at the end of the second season, so even we who have read the books don't really know where the third season will go.

At the end the king gave Mal his stuff, ship etc so that Mal could become Durmond and go on adventures to find himself. So the ship is the king's ship, I would assume

So, in the books for what i remember, Six of crows and the Alina books don't really cross, so the show has some new stuff. And yeah we still have at least another season about Alina because there are alot of things that need to happen yet 👀

I was so sure Mal would be a new Greisha too, but no, just a magical blood line destined to be part of some plot, guess we couldn't have it too easy... I am regretting not watching the show earlier, hope I'm not the one causing the show not to be continued. we really need the continuation!
