Gurl I love Aleksander too. Idc if he’s evil right now, but I’m hoping that he becomes a hero too. He and Alina are both one of a kind Yin and Yang. They complete each other. They are meant to be together, I think they end up together in the end. I don’t really like Mal either lol I don’t care about him. Aleksander doesn’t want to destroy the fold. He’s just so old that all he cares about right now is that the end justifies the means. He will sacrifice everything and everyone. To him everybody is expendable because he’s seen so many people die. He’s been alive 1000 years. Alina and his mother are the only people that he really has forever.

Grisha age based on how powerful and how often they use their gift. Using their power keeps them young so the darkling is aging just really slowly,,, that's why after Mal said she looks healthier in episode 5 she realized that's how Kirigan has lived for so long

@@Schirm08 Not in the case of the Darkling, no... Or Alina for that matter, with enough time and mastery over her powers... There are not many animals like the Stag, made by Morozova, it's actually only 3 and the Stag is the first one to be found... There are other Animal Amplifiers but they would be "minor" in the amplification they provide, the ones made by the Darkling's ancestor are the ones that are really powerful. Like I said, in the case of the Darkling (and Baghra), their powers are strong enough to give them the long life span, no amplifiers are needed... Specially in the case of the Darkling, given that HE IS an amplifier himself, similar to the Stag (The Darkling is the most powerful Grisha around; Alina would need a few centuries of training and knowledge under her belt to even come close, and even with that I do not think she would be as powerful as him, I think he is the most powerful Grisha period) But Alina would actually, in theory, be able get to a similar level of power and therefor immortality on her own (with her own powers); the reason why the Darkling wanted to get the amplifiers like the Stag for her was to speed up the process and to make her more powerful RIGHT NOW, but even without external help thru out the course of her life if she continued to use and nurture her powers she would basically stop aging, similar to the Darkling

Genya has a really sad backstory. Everyone just has depressing backstories. Like Inej was bought by a brothel as a child, which is how she lost her brother. She also religiously believes in Saints and all her blades are named for them. The Crows are one of my favorite parts of the tv and book series. Ben Barnes usually plays the villain and only 5% of the time does he play a morally good character. Ben is just naturally good at playing villains, but he's got the personality of a golden retriever. The amount of power he holds as an actor and person is just too much. And the editing in this video is great

The complexity of the situation is what makes The Darkling such a good character... Obviously you aren't supposed to like or excuse his actions towards Alina, it is horrible... But you do see his points and his reasoning, and guess what? They are good reasons... His goal is to gain control of the Fold so he can use it as a deterrent for any conflict against his country and specially his people (Grisha); we can of course say that this is violent, tyrannical and "wrong", but not from his perspective... He has lived for a very long time, watched and experienced the persecution towards the Grisha thru generations, never changing, never getting better no matter what he did... He tried hiding, didn't work, he tried being useful, helping the king at the time, fighting for him, the hatred towards Grisha was still there; he has tried every other solution that someone like Alina can possibly come up with as a 'better way', she (and the other characters) are young and naïve compared to what he has experienced... So from his POV when he says "Being the top dog and threatening them it's the only way to keep Grisha safe", he actually knows this to be true from experience, this is the only solution left; and is Alina or any of the other characters really qualified or knowledgeable enough to tell him otherwise? That it's also why he took control of Alina instead of telling her his plan and giving her a choice... He doesn't trust that she would understand the reasoning behind his plans and he is not willing to risk it; he has waited too long for this, he is not leaving anything to chance or to the whims of a person that doesn't understand the extent of the problem and hard choices that need to be made to fix it (This is all from his POV)... Yeah, it is fucked up what he is doing and you have to oppose it on principle; but when you think about it, see his experiences, watch it from his POV, etc. Did they really give him another choice but to say "fuck it, I'm taking over"?

Grisha have longer lives living up to 120 if they’re super powerful, more power the longer the life! Litigants, baghra and Alina are different, because they’re so unique and super super powerful they essentially live forever, baghra looks older as she uses her power significantly less making her a little weaker, lots of love from the fan of the books (and a Ben Barnes Stan)

What was Ivan about to say? Spoilers: In the books, apparently Jesper is Grisha. A Durast, but not really trained. He’s been hiding it, but that’s how he’s such a great shot. He makes the bullets go where he wants them to go. Ivan figured it out at the end and was about to call him out on it. Jesper being Jesper whacked him across the head to shut him up before the words left his mouth.

I'm an absolute Darklina fan! They are so powerful and awesome together. The Darkling was the only one who saw who Alina really is (Mal never did). The two are like two sides of a coin. they belong together. I don't think he just used her for his plans. He really has been waiting for her for so long and his feelings were true, but he has been alone for so long that he has forgotten what it's like to have a partner. And honestly they can't show us a Darklina kiss like that and that's it or what? the chemistry between alina and alexander was great! We need more stuff like this!

fun little fact in the books Alina was 17, mal was 17 or 18 (I cant remember which), Kaz was 17, Inej was 16, Jesper was 17, nina was 17, Matthias was 18 and Wylan (He'll be in s2) was 16. Also the crows (kaz, inej, nina, matthias, jesper, wylan) arent in the shadow and bone triology nor do they ever meet alina in any of the books

They only kiss I am pretty sure once in the books and when he kissed her he was kinda taken aback after. Like he confused himself when it happened. No, he sent her to the QUEEN as a "gift" to be a spy. The queen was from Fjerda the nation that believes Grisha are witches and need to be sent to "witch trials" where they are always found guilty and sent to be executed merely for being born a Grisha. He needed a spy close to the Queen's court to find out the exact moment the Queen tried to do anything nefarious or try to convince the King to go against the Grisha. He's already lived through one King making a fair bargain to train the Grisha and win the King's war, but then betraying Kirigan and ordering the execution of Kirgian, his healer, and any Grisha the army came across (review how Luda warned him the King's men were murdering an entire village of Grisha). Both in Book 1 and in the show, Tailoring is seen as unique and a rare ability. So he sent Genya to be his loyal spy to ensure the Queen's court did not turn on the Grisha by appeasing the Queen's vanity and making her beautiful . And watching carefully for any signs of betrayal.

And they were persecuted in Ravka too before the Darkling gained power. That's clearly told in the books. Their world... The "normal" people hate and discriminate against Grisha.... The Darkling was and is the only power in that world standing against all of it. No one else fights with him. I'm always amazed how people downplay or even miss the apparent centuries long genocide against Grisha?? 🙄 but have time finding all the ways in which the Darkling is evil. Talking about scale and perspective? .. Yeah all the other people in that world actively or indirectly supporting ongoing Grisha persecution and murder are just good innocent people living their lives right....no one needed to do anything to change things, Grisha don't need protection, there is no ongoing war to fight.. .. After he knew about what happened (she told Alina he did everything he could to help her in book 1) He even offered Genya a way out by faking her death and sending her away but she refused because she wanted revenge (she said it herself in her short story: The tailor) A Military General has no power over the king. What happened to Genya is not Aleksander's fault *at all* stop blaming him and blame the r*pist instead.

The only way Grisha are allowed to live in Ravka is because they are useful for the crown because they can cross the fold and he needs more soldiers to fight against two enemies. That's why the darkling is against destroying the fold, because without the fold, the king and Ravkans won't need Grisha to cross any more, therefore the restart of their persecution.

Aleksander is such a horrible person. That's a fact. However, he is such a well written, complex character that it is impossible to deny that his goals make sense at some extent. After having read the books I realized this even further. It is extremely unrealistic to want to change the world's ideas of Grisha being heretics and he knows this, which is why he's taken the choices he's taken. Again, horrible person, but an incredible villian/character. He is hot af tho😭

The Darkling is such a superior character. Is he a good guy? Hell no. But even though he did and still doing bad stuff he has his reasons. He is the one who really cares about his country (that been threaten for ages by other countries) and grisha. There is a small story named “Demon in the Wood” about young Alexander, it shows you how he and grisha in general been treated. And we getting this story into a graphic novel really soon though and it’s look amazing, I think you should check.

Mal, is probably my lest favorite in terms of Alaina's love interests. Especially book Mal. In the books he's not as kind or as sympathic twords her. He ignores her, actively talks about finding a Grisha woman to be more attractive then her and even points that out and he just gets worse in the second book. His character isn't very solid in my opinion especially book Mal, who seems pretty much uninterested in Alaina until she comes into her powers.

Another thing that pisses me off is the name Kirigan lol and the way he said his real name in like episode 3 (all readers hate that stuff). Cause it was big no HUGE thing in the book (I think it was a third book, actually, when he said that to Alina). And it was awesome. I have no idea why they done it… 3. Milo is cute and all, but the way everyone (media, s&b and Netflix account) gives him more attention than crows(Inej, for example) is fucking sad. As you already know, they’ve mixed up stories from s&b trilogy and soc duology, so we don’t really know what to expect in season 2 (besides storyline from siege&storm - 2nd book of the trilogy).

So my thing with Alexander is that I've always loved him. Even in the books. The way I see it he's just a man desperately trying to save his people. He's going about it the wrong way, but I don't think he was given much of a choice. He fought wars for a king that later tried to whip out his people because they were too powerful and now a threat. I agree that he should have been more honest, but look at the way he's met when his is honest (every interaction he has with his mother.) Taking away Alana's choice and consent is probably the most messed up thing he does in my opinion. Honestly though how would he have been able to honestly approach her about his true intentions without her pulling a 180.

When you spoke about Matthias and Nina, I couldn't help but remember where we meet him in the books. Six of Crows, Chapter 7. Read and reread. Audiobook Matthias's voice is a Masterpiece too! These glimpses in the show is their flashback. We meet him in the books where he is locked up and HATES her. That first line though "Matthias was dreaming again. Dreaming of her. In all his dreams he hunted her... In the good dreams he slammed her to the ground... In the bad dreams he kissed her" 😍🫣🥴🤯💯🥰
