It is a great trilogy, even if I don't agree with some of the choices, but there are context clues people missed or ignored. I love the contrast between JJ's straightforward approach and Rian's misdirection.

Most who hated it usher a narrative that "There was no plan" or "They undid what the other did." Fans also see the Sequel Trilogy as _undoing_ Anakin's arc and _ruining_ Luke. Some even see Rey as a Mary Sue-type character but don't consider what might have happened in *30 years* between the trilogies.

We sometimes set expectations based on what we think we know, but they almost always subvert them. When i first saw this movie on the theaters i heard that everyone hated it and that "Disney ruined star wars" but as i watched it i just couldn't understand that take because i loved almost every part of the movie. I feel like it drasticly improves the following concepts we saw on the last jedi very well (Which i also love! really don't understand the hate on that one either) and also makes rey's path against the dark side really interesting. Finally i think that plapatine's return, even though we know it was a desperate measure, sort of fit within the story. And i think it was meant to be this unexpected thing of "SOMEHOW palpatine returned", putting on an enphasis on how the dark side is resilient and hard to kill.

I loved this movie. I don't get why there were haters saying that Rey shouldn't be able to have those powers without training. Dude it showed several instances of her going to training and failing more often. There are real people in this world that are born with insane talent or have been given the gift of genius with an accidental blow to the head. The last trilogy clues us into Rey's surprise that she has powers that she doesn't understand but would know how to use because she has both the dark side and the light side of the force within her. All of us do but only 1% know how to use the gift. Of course I hated some parts that were just corny, predictive or utterly cringe but overall for me, it felt so right that Rey called herself a Skywalker.

I really love Rise of Skywalker and it's definitely way better than the atrocious Last Jedi film. The Last Jedi really ruined the flow and story of the sequel trilogy and Rise of Skywalker did great on fixing the previous mistakes of Last Jedi. Kylo Ren became my favorite Star Wars character after this film and I wish the ending would have been slightly different with him. But overall I think this movie gets an undeserved bad rap, it's better than what ratings show.

Too many comments I’ve seen online are by those who have immersed themselves so far into the original story that they forget it’s just meant to be entertaining hokum. I watched it expecting action, adventure, storyline conclusion and more of the characters I liked. Yes I could see faults but it was fun, remember fun? I would happily watch the next film in line. Fans dislike this film and the trilogy for a specific reason. The previous six parts were about Anakin who was the Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force and destroy the Sith. With Palpatine's return, Anakin's sacrifice becomes pointless, and he essentially dies for nothing. Luke, another central character, was supposed to rebuild the Jedi Order and become powerful. However, in the film, he is portrayed as a coward. Even the actor who played Luke stated that the character portrayed in the film is not Luke but "Jake Skywalker." Rey takes on both of these roles and additionally names herself Skywalker, despite Leia telling her to accept who she is. I saw video on YT reaction of fans in the cinema; they booing Rey and saying she is "Rey Nobody." (And honestly, I agree with them because I hate this character) It's not surprising, as Rey doesn't learn anything, doesn't change, and doesn't face any significant failures throughout the three films. She lacks flaws, making her character shallow and uninteresting. This aligns with the definition of a Mary Sue, a strong female character poorly written. (There are a lot of videos on YT about it, so I recommend watching one of them) Disney's announcement of a new mobie with Rey is met with strong disapproval from fans who fear it signals a continuation of the perceived disaster rather than redemption. Additionally, you can add what was the point of Finn in this movie: Reeeeeeeeeey! They destroyed his arc. It is worth adding to all this that George Lucas had a plan for all SW parts, but here the directors themselves admitted that There Was No Plan! Now I'll tell you the biggest nonsense of this film: Palpatine returns. They don't explain why, except for a brief mention of cloning. From the book, we learn that Palpatine transferred his consciousness into a clone. How can we be sure he won't do it again? This doesn't make sense. Sorry but my rating: 0/10 Not only because I consider it a catastrophic abomination, but also because if I gave a higher rating, I would be unfair to better productions.

Perhaps the "disaster" of Rey is not just "perceived"... that her part to play in the overall story was not to replace Anakin or Luke... but to do something they never did, though they were tempted.

I think the reason they choose to bring Palpatine back because that was what happened in the comics, though I'm not sure if it became canon once Disney took control of the IP. For me personally, I liked this trilogy. It could have been better, of course, but it was enjoyable enough.
