Hello Guys,
This video is a bit out of order on our Scotland Road trip, but we just wanted to upload this as one film.
An amazing detour from our route back, to go to Chanonry Point near Inverness, in the hope of seeing the Bottlenose Dolphins.
Chanonry Point is one of the best spots in the UK to view bottlenose dolphins, from land. The dolphins are often visible off Chanonry point, particularly on an incoming tide when they play and fish in the strong currents.
While bottlenose dolphins can be seen off the point throughout the year, the chances of seeing them increase when their food supply increases, the peak times being when salmon are returning towards the two main rivers (the Ness and Beauly) which feed into the Moray Firth. The salmon come in with the tidal current which, once the tide starts to come in, can be extreme.
We watched these amazing creatures for 45 minutes. At first they were into the serious business of fishing, but after a while, some of them started to show off to the watching crowd. We just sensed that they knew we were being entertained and they played along to a delighted audience.
One of my favourite ever wildlife watching experiences, to be so close to these amazing and intelligent but very wild, animals.
If you're planning a trip, find the tide details and if possible, pick days with midday low tides. It's obviously never guaranteed, but the dolphins start to catch the salmon as the tide starts to come back in.
We really hope you enjoy this one guys.
Dave & Sue.

Absolutely wonderful mate - could t believe how close they came - nearly on the beach at one point. There was a Labrador which stated barking at them - and so they came a bit closer!! Literally toying with the audience and playing up to us. Once they had finished feeding, their jumps and backflips and tail slaps became higher as the people cheered. And they didn’t have to do it - they actually were enjoying themselves!! What an experience!!

Hi and thanks, North.Bedfordshire.Nature for sharing. Yes, you captured dolphins@3:35, @4:44,@12:25, and so on. I have heard that the UK is not a habitat for dolphins, but they swim after fish. Salmon are like Filet mignon steak for them. I can feel how much you two were thrilled at that moment. That's why I go on a kayak trip to see the wildlife. Dolphins, manatees, and alligators are always around in FL, US. In December, people often say that Dolphins jump in the air and you witnessed them. I have seen them swim at me many times like a foot away. They are very protective, so they swim right next to baby dolphins in a pod. I was once surrounded by many pods of dolphins, more than 50 of them. So I really can tell how much you were emotional to see them."Sunset & Dolphins." I am very happy for you, two. I hope you survived the heat waves. Well done and keep coming. 🙋‍♀🙋‍♀🛶🛶

Hi and thanks so much for your kind comments🙏🙏🙏 Yes, the UK is a great habitat for Dolphins Porpoises and Whales. We have many different species here. There are a couple of pods of Orcas on the North Coast which we were hoping to see but we were not lucky enough this time. We were in Northumberland last week and we spotted pods of Dolphins off the coast there too. The pod in the video are regular visitors to that exact spot to feed so it was just wonderful to be able to get so close to them. How amazing to be able to Kayak with them. Such intelligent creatures, it must be such a thrill!! There seems to really be a connection between these beautiful animals and humans. Yes, we had a dreadful heatwave here, especially in the South. We have had wildfires and there are going to be water shortages next month I think😨😨 But we were in the North East so we missed the worst of it here at home. Thanks again. Hope you’re well and that you’re having a great week 👍👍👍👍 Dave & Sue

We were so lucky Jen. We were on the North Coast travelling to the South of Scotland and I had tried to plan a stop off here at midday. It so happened that the tide change was perfect for us to witness them feeding. Half an hour later and we would have missed them. Once they had finished feeding they just played up to the audience - they didn’t have to do it - they were just enjoying themselves and enjoying being the centre of our attention. It was really magical. Thanks for watching and hope you’ve had a great weekend 👍👍👍

@@JenniferLupine what happens is that the Salmon wait outside the point for the tide to turn which then pushes them into the bay and their feeder rivers. And the Dolphins just lay in wait. So just after the low tide point is when you see the Dolphins feeding We were lucky that we could cut our Southward trip to get there for low tide So we were lucky we made it but it was sort of planned a couple of days in advance They’re not always there Jen so sort of double lucky. We had friends who sat there all day last year because they hadn’t realised about the tide times!! It was just brilliant and they were so so close 😍
@JenniferLupine
@JenniferLupine 2 жыл бұрын
@@NBNatureTrailvan Ah, I see… yes, double lucky! That swing of tide is really amazing. Do they know where the dolphins go now? I wonder how large their range is? We have a pod Orca whales in Puget Sound, but I haven’t ever seen them- People can take a tour boat, they seem to know where they are at any given time, and sometimes people see them from the car ferry. I’m sure it’s the same type of thrill to see these animals in person!! For you, you got to be so close!! 😁💕💗

And once they had finished feeding, they just messed about knowing that the people were loving it - every jump was cheered and so they jumped higher!! And they did it because they could. Wow! This was an incredible video guys! How lucky to see wild dolphins so close to shore, and boy did they put on a show for you🥰🐬. We have never seen them in Scotland but we have had them swim along with a boat we were on in the canaries, we actually got quite emotional seeing them, i think they somehow move you like that, perhaps it is that connection they have with humans, and i would defy anyone not to get positively giddy when they jump out of the water🤗😍🐬. So pleased that you both had this experience, we are sure it will stay with you forever, and now you have this beautiful video to look back on too! Thanks so much for sharing this with us, it is on our ever growing bucket list to visit here😊👌. Hope you are well and have a great week ahead, Shell and Pete

Cheers Pete and Shell There is definitely a connection, definitely!! When they had finished feeding they started to put on a show No one made them, they seemed to be doing it because we were enjoying it. The more they jumped the more the audience whooped and they just jumped higher!! 😍😍. Tail slaps, back flips you name it. If you do go, just make sure you get there as the tide turns to come back in as that’s when the Salmon are pushed into the Firth and the Dolphins are waiting. I don’t know if this happens all year round though and obviously there’s no guarantee. But it is an absolutely amazing experience We were just so lucky and privileged

This is quite a treat for my Sunday, so thank you Dave and Sue:) And I can imagine how fun it was for you to be there watching these amazing cousins of humanity. But even without the dolphins chasing salmon, Chanonry point is quite a place. The strength of the tidal current is daunting and I can imagine the unwary boat captain getting into trouble at that spot. Just watching the water rushing past is also an experience; but when you have a pod of show-offs it gets even more fun:) So here you have a memory for a long time:) All the best, Ant

Do you know what Ant, it was probably the best wildlife experience we have witnessed. They are amazing creatures, after finishing feeding they just seemed to want to entertain. And every time they got a gasp or a whoop from the crowd - they just jumped higher. And no one made them do it!! Yes, the point is an amazing place - the strength of the tide is awesome - no wonder the Salmon use it and the Dolphins know where to be at what time. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it and hope you’re having a great weekend 👍👍👍

@@NBNatureTrailvan I have to admit that I was reminded of the book The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy by the late Douglas Adams and where dolphins have a part to play. This was so cool. So many people keeping an eye for the dolphins. Oh, my gosh, they came in so close. There were so many, and they didn't seem to be bothered by the spectators at all. They were focused on their mission. Love the backflip. It was about as much fun to see how excited you were as it was to see the dolphin. You got some amazing photos and videos. They are show offs. Yep it was just amazing DeAnna. They knew we were there before we knew they were there and they just kept on feeding. And when they had finished - they started jumping, back flipping and tail slapping. And when their audience whooped at a jump, they jumped higher next time!! It was absolutely amazing and wonderful to see!!!! And they were so close. At one point a dog started barking at them, so they deliberately came closer just to see what the reaction would be!! Never seen anything like it. And they didn’t have to do it - they just did it because they were enjoying entertaining us - when they jumped they were looking across and almost seemed to be smiling and laughing. It was amazing. Maybe our most wow moments of the trip. If you do visit you must make sure of the tide times. The Dolphins only visit there just as the tide turns to come in each day and brings in the Salmon. We were there mid June, and I think Spring and Summer are the best times to see them. We loved every second of that 40 minutes or so! What an experience it was!! Have a brilliant weekend guys Dave & Sue

You should not have gone on the beach, the wall is unstable. There is a footpath next to the two cottages, glad you get to see them they are amazing they come so close to the shore, we do this trip twice a year. All the dolphins have names, you can tell who they are by the marks on their dorsal fin. A great book if you are interested is on a rising tide by Charlie Phillips. We were lucky enough to meet Charlie at his wife Susan's craft shop in North Kessock. When I purchased the book, Charlie gave me a few photography tips and signed the book. They are a lovely couple and I spent ages chatting to them. You can but the book online.

I am amazed that the dolphins come so close to the shore. And they look so relaxed, thanks for the precious video✨

Total relaxed Ramujiro, they were in their natural environment and they actually seemed to enjoy our presence! After feeding they started to play up to the audience. Wonderful experience - just amazing to see!! Hope you’re well my friend and having a great weekend 👍👍👍
