Never underestimate the scathing witticisms of football fans. It’s usually a bloke or two starts a chant and the people near join in and it spreads

Some friends over from New York got their own football chant in an Islington pub when, on the way to the bar, they accidentally got in the way of the big screen tv near the end of an Arsenal match. They were flattered and embarrassed in equal measure.

That Gerrard chant hurt lol. He was my hero growing up. One season, towards the end of his career, he slipped and gave the ball away, effectively costing us the Premier League title. Despite being one of all-time greats, he'll never live down that unfortunate incident. The song that the opposition fans were singing is a play on one already sung by Liverpool fans, with the original chant being: "Steven Gerrard, Gerrard, He'll pass the ball 40 yards, He's big and he's f***ing hard, Steve Gerrard, Gerrard..."

So, there’s some context that could supply the chant at 6:15. Lucky for me, I have family in the UK and have researched the life there. I know there was a South Korean player named Park who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers. But that one was probably obvious even to us Americans. The “scouse” was referring to people from Liverpool England, commonly called scousers. A council house is the UK equivalent of American projects, government funded housing. Essentially implying, they have no food so they eat the rats.

@@joepickup7305 that makes sense, I wasn't sure if they knew the chants already, or if they made them up on the spot. I'm assuming a lot of these are variations of existing chants that are just tweaked slightly to fit the current circumstance. That's very cool nonetheless

@@ezraanderson1190 You are correct. Some of them are established chants that all teams sing, like the fire drill one to mock opposition fans leaving early, some will be made up on the spot or created specially for a game. You tend to get a lot of the same tunes used, but every so often a new tune will be adopted. Defo a lot of creativity and humour and one of the best things about football IMO, particularly in the UK

The first clip was about England fans in Russia! Steven Gerrard "slipped on his ass" meant that he was The Captain of Liverpool and after 30 years they were, finally, going to win the league until right at the end, when Steve slipped and they lost the title so the rival Manchester fans were mocking him. Some chants (like the seagulls) are spontaneous while others are sung each week all thru the game.If you look at images of the players mentioned, you will see distinct physical features.....Good Luck..

Not a fan of the sport (haven't watched a match live unless someone I knew played) so I have no knowledge, but when they summed up the whole match in a song I thought social media may play a part in the synchronization of such a large group. Someone uploads a lyric and if it gets the approval of enough of the fans it's what they sing next. Does that sound plausible? By the way, this video was very SFW. There are others with way naughtier chants. The "How shit must you be, ONLY beating us by X goals?" is a favorite. Another great one was a group of Welsh fans that answered a chant accusing them of sheep shagging by singing a multi verse song about how they DO shag sheep. How do you follow that?

I wonder if the fact that, unlike the US, overseas they're not drowned in sports options accounts for some of this. Football is HUGE in Europe and the fans are beyond any I see usually. College football in the American south (talking the SEC) gets pretty intense, and is of a type as this, but the fans over there are intense in a different way and, perhaps, on a different scale. Those chants seem established traditions and come out depending upon the circumstances. I don't think I've ever seen such an expression of fan unity before they even enter the stadium. It seems choreographed to me; someone starts it and everybody joins in.

Hello Charles.Yes, Football has just been voted the Number 1 Sport in every one of Europe's 55 Countries/ In England we do have the World's Number 2 Sport, as well in Cricket and Rugby Union and Rugby League are quite well supported but Football is a Religion as last night showed. Newcastle United (now richer than the next 10 World Sports teams The REAL combined) played PSG from France(Messy's old Club) and beat them 4/1. There are 10-minute highlights on KZbin but the fan unity of Paris was incredible and there are endless videos of their march to the Stadium accompanied by a huge police presence with Home supporters lining the entire route and this is 2 hours before the game and it is intensity personified. The REAL video to watch from "Summit Sports" is " World's Best Football Fans/Ultras:Europe. Please tell me what you think. my friend. Best chants were West Ham to the suspended Rio Ferdinand - “his name is Rio and he watches from the stands” to the Duran Duran tune Rio, or “there’s only two Andy Gorams” after the Scottish keeper was diagnosed with schizophrenia. You do need a lot of context to get the humour of the best chants though.

Crowds are fun to watch. I read a story years ago about a soccer match in northern Italy. I forget the teams, date, and location, so consider it weak hearsay. The story goes that the Italian team was playing an English one. The English fans of this particular club had a reputation for being rowdy, so they had cops at the stadium to run crowd control and funnel all the fans straight from the busses into their own section of the stands. Apparently they literally caged off part of the venue to keep positive control over them. Unfortunately the English team didn't do well in their match, and at some point their hopes for a victory dwindled and some people wanted to leave before the match was over. Worse yet the area they were restricted to was below another story of Italian fans. When the mood soured the Italian fans had the high ground and made some use of it tossing things at the captive fans below them. Then in the chaos someone starts having a panic attack, and the fans body surf her over the crowd to the exit. But when an officer opened the gate to check on this person's well being the riled up fans spewed forth out of the stands. Since the match wasn't over the cops weren't in place to escort them back into their busses so the mob spilled out into the surrounding areas and did some light rioting.

It is t one person 'deciding' what is sung. Someone starts and others either join in or not. Usually new songs/chants are first heard in the pub before the game and again they are taken up, or not. If they are then by the time the get to the game enough already know the words and enough can be heard for it to b picked up by others. Some only relate to that day or current events It is in direct contrast to Europe where it is arranged and coordinated. Chants that amount to know that claiming how important their team is, usually with a bit where a deep voice is affected, in order to sound more threatening, or 'butch' in reality. In the Uk it is just an enlargement of a few mates having a laugh in the pub. Not as in Europe where it is similar to the Red Army choir

There are the ultras (real fanatics) who start the chants. Point is, European and South American football fans are far beyond anything seen in USA or Canada. Look up Matt Damon's account of going to a game with his wife's relatives in (IIRC) Argentina. Edit link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYTGgmqthZKVnpYsi=DJWguD_vg1BHqzFb

Here's how UK football chants are created: On gameday (every weekend and sometimes weekdays) the fans of the team will gather throughout the day in the local pubs close to the stadium. Some pubs are known as being specifically for the local club. At these pubs the fans will start singing songs in the tune of famous pop songs, if the lyrics are clever and funny and people join in singing then you have succeeded. Later at the game itself, any successful chants can be started and people will join in as well as all of the old famous songs that were developed in the same way. That's why we all know the words and the rhythm. Singing is only a part of it. UK football is a culture- if you are a hardcore fan you travel each with with all your fellow fans and you "invade" the town you are playing against. Its kind of friendly but....they also fight each other as gangs, but we dont take the fighting to heart its all part of the fun. The other European countries also share this culture so if your team qualify for the European football tournaments then you have the opportunity to travel to other countries to "invade" other local teams and the club culture and songs and fighting is the same for all those countries meaning we can all enjoy it together. It's a great way to travel the country or the continent with your mates, get drunk, have fights and all be friends afterwards. It is basically our friendly version of WAR lol. It's very hard to explain to Americans. Respectfully you guys are too soft to understand the culture. You guys shoot or sue each other, we have a fist fight nobody dies then we shake hands and buy each other drinks in the pub after we fight. It very rarely every gets nasty, even when it's super violent we don't attach the emotion to it that Americans would, we are used to drama like that. Football fans also have their own dresscode, look up Stone Island football and you'll see the main aspects of this part of the culture. The food sold at Stadiums is also a thing, its usually meat pies, chips and...well that's about it, order anything else and you're probably soft lol I hope this helps anyone who is interested to understand. If you have any questions let me know!
