So great seeing Joel and Ellie's development. One theme I was tracking was looking at how food is used at the beginning of the episodes: - ep1 Joel cooks breakfast for him and his daughter, pre-apocalypse. - ep2 Joel, Tess and Ellie all eat together. Joel and Tess are eating the same type of food, though they each have their own.(they're together, but still separate as Joel has attachment issues) Ellie has a delicious-looking sandwich that Marlena made *for* her. - ep3 Joel shares his food with Ellie, but he tosses it at her and they don't eat together. - ep3 Bill cooks for Frank.(relationship goals) -- ep4 Joel cooks for Ellie and they actually eat together, even agreeing that it's tasty! Progress! (Chef-Boyardee meat ravioli was my fav as a kid -- must've been all that sugar in the sauce) So yeah, food as an expression of love and caring for another.(as reiterated by Bill's note) It shows the bond. The fact that industrialized food killed everyone certainly has implications in terms of this theme, but I'll leave it there.🙂

The look on Ellie's face was priceless when Joel is showing her the proper way to hold the gun. Such a sweet moment. I'm looking forward to seeing their relationship grow. Also, I just recently subscribed and I like what I've seen so far, keep it up gal! 😁👍

It's pretty normal to not feel bad about that guy, but the hypocritical thing is that most people feel bad for Joel even tho he literally did the same that kid was doing to survive. So if you feel bad for one you need to feel bad for the other and vice versa, if you don't feel bad for one you don't feel bad for the other. Or maybe just be hypocritical idk lol

Well the HUGE difference is that we're not watching Joel do that now. I highly doubt that even at Joel's lowest he was willing to trap and attempt to kill a man and his presumed child, but even if he had.. he's not living his life like that now. There's a big difference between something someone has done and something someone is doing. If we watched Joel attempt to murder a random innocent kid and die in the process in the next episode then no I wouldn't feel bad for him lol.

@@KelseasCommentstrue. But also consider that if Bryan had killer Joel and survived, then stopped being a hunter, his moral situation would then be equivalent to Joel again. He didn’t get an opportunity to change. Often in TLoU, stories are either fully grey or very close, and it’s less about who’s right and more about “why did they act this way?” Joel did the things he did to survive. Bryan likely had little choice given the nature of his group. “Following orders” is Not a moral defence, but it allows one to view immorality as partly due to circumstance, and thus worthy of empathy, (while at the same time, you can only respond to their actions and how they affect you, you can’t not shoot an attacker because they were pressured into doing it). The necessity of killing people trying to get by, just like you, is what makes the show so tragic.

I can understand why Tommy left the Fireflies. He wanted to be a hero and the thing's that the Fireflies have to do although while fighting an enemy as crappy as FEDRA are not heroic at all. They (the Fireflies) don't care about Collateral Damage at all. Just look at episode one where Tess got blown up and Marlene said that Tommy is just one man. No heroes there, just fanatics.

Great reaction! I also had no sympathy whatsoever for the guy that Ellie shot. My first impression of Kathleen was different than yours though. Instead of thinking of her as a tough woman, her people had attacked Joel and Ellie, so I just quickly labeled her as the leader of the bad people. When you find out her back story I think it gives her a bit more justification for being the way she is, but I always thought she was bad and my opinion of her never changed much. That's the interesting thing about this world though. There's no black and white, just varying shades of gray. To some Kathleen is a hero, to others a villain. It all depends on your point of view. You can also say the same about Joel. He has done plenty of bad things in his life as well.

Kathleen's bearded right-hand is Tommy's voice actor in the game. Kathleen was not part of the game. The hunters exist but they were only NPCs to kill, nothing more. But Henry and Sam exist. So no spoiler here. As I understand it, Henry is responsible for Kathleen's brother death by betrayal. I guess he betrayed them because Fedra threatened Sam. I think Kathleen's brother was the leader of the resistance movement and she was probably the mom of the troops. That's the only reason I can imagine why the group follows her at all, so insecure and focused on revenge she seems. The bottom line is that she has absolutely understandable reasons. Just as good reasons as anyone else on the show and Joel wouldn't do anything else. Shows again that no group is good or bad. Joel's poor hearing has been shown throughout the episode. He always sleeps on the right side and Ellie often had to repeat when she called Joel. He didn't hear Henry and Sam because he hadn't slept the night before and because he had laid down on his good ear in his sleep. The only criticism so far is really the lack of brutality shown by Joel, because that is very important. Firstly, Joel was brutal and ruthless and secondly it's important for the second season. I think it is a mistake not to show this in all its brutality. The show still has to improve and I hope it will be later. It just has to. Btw... I still believe that Ellie pocketed the two grenades that fell at her feet when Tess had her heroic death. And I think they will still need them for what is coming.
