the way I understand the subplot with the dwarf is that Matt and Trey were doing a social commentary on the way discrimination is taught in schools. We've all had that one lecture about why saying certain things or laughing at certain people is wrong, but did it ever change anything? Is a speech about how words are hurtful and how you can do anything despite your differences really going to change someone like Cartman who just wants to make fun of anyone for anything? I think that's what they were criticizing, you can have the best intent, but giving a speech or trying to teach a lesson can't just erase all of it.

Well said. I love the show, but some of SP's fans are really insufferable, and feel like they're more so using South Park to spread their shitty views, when like... Cartman ISN'T supposed to be the good guy. Cartman is purposely made to be a mixture of all the worst traits in humanity. There are some episodes which are dated in terms of sub-text like ManBearPig, for which Trey and Matt literally apologized for, but it didn't ruin the episode for me as the plot is pretty standalone, but the media literacy in some of the later episodes is actually crazy when it came to public perception. Trans episode and the Panderverse are the most obvious examples. Like the whole trans athlete plot was taken like "hell yeah" by transphobes and like "they're framing trans people as these lying schemers" by people who didn't even watch the episode but only correspond to the initial comments by the fanbase, when like the b plot of those episodes like Cissy LITERALLY FEATURE a positive message for it and explore the concept of feeling lost in your body, as if you don't belong in it. They just said that if someone was using it to exploit it was simply shitty, which it is. Panderverse didn't frame inclusivity as a bad thing, it framed it as dishonest attempt to get some brownie points, as it's lazy. But it's Cartman who was like "Disney wants to replace white straight men with diverse groups" which is like yeah, THAT'S CARTMAN, the most typical, consistent racist in television history. You aren't supposed to take his takes like gospel, you are supposed to take them with an entire hill of salt because he's insane.

That's why it feels like it just comes out of nowhere; it wasn't planned originally, but then Stan & Trey saw the guy they were basing that character off of on TV or something and decided to include him in the episode.

Homemade “Pringles” Ingredients: 1 c warm water 1/4 tsp salt 1 c instant mashed potatoes (powdered kind works better than the flake or pearl kind) 1 c rice flour 1 Tbsp cornstarch 1/4 tsp of baking powder Peanut or coconut oil for deep frying Instructions: Dissolve the salt in the water, then add to dry ingredients. Mix into stiff dough. Pass dough through pasta machine at the lowest setting (I’ve never been able to make these thin enough rolling by hand). Cut the flatten dough into 2” squares or use a sharp cookie cutter lightly greased with cooking spray to make different shapes. In a heavy skillet or kettle, heat oil to 350-375F (175-190C). Flash fry chips 10-15 seconds until crisp. Oven method: preheat oven to 450F (232C), arrange chips on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper, spritz tops with cooking spray, place in top rack of oven and bake for 2-3 minutes until crisp. Alt: Mix cooked potatoes and rice in blender/food processor with the cornstarch, baking powder & salt to make the dough (you shouldn’t need any water). :)

Great thing about South Park is that even after, how many episodes have they reacted to this point, like AT LEAST 100 or something, there are STILL more episodes which are considered classics and must watches. The little person sequence always felt like it was poking fun at Cartman's complete unhinged nature and foulness, as well as the foulness of the situation itself, which is what made it so funny. It's not that little people are funny or should be laughed at, but rather showing how low Cartman can go in a situation that demands respect, composure, and maturity. The comedy lies in the shock, as well as how inappropriate the whole exchange was, even in how Mr. Nelson responded to the situation. In his mind, he was making a point to teach Cartman and the kids a lesson, but it didn't stop Cartman's behavior, and it ultimately made the whole PSA about harmful words, tolerance, and compassion somewhat pointless. It probably left the kids more confused than they were at the start and sent a mixed message on what's acceptable. It wasn't completely in vain, though, as it helped Stan confront the main issue at hand, even though it was a strange and unrelated circumstance that caused the realization. Matt and Trey did admit they weren't sure what to do for the B-plot, so they came up with something random they thought would have been funny, especially as it pertained to Cartman. Interestingly, The NAACP and Abolish the "N" Word Organization praised this episode, calling it a 'good example of educating the public on the power of hate words (including the n-word) and their impact on individuals' and it received very little media attention or scrutiny despite the subject matter. Matt and Trey also said that part of what motivated the ending was the realization that if there was a word that held the same weight as the "N" word that was used towards white people, they would 'make it illegal,' showing the power inequalities that white people typically have in areas minorities don't. The episode is actually very sensitive towards the subject matter all things considering, which is part of why I love it so much. Plus, it's just hilarious, lol.
