Okay, bit of an explanation for you, cause you be strugglin' XD The Jumpsuit video basically continues from the Heavydirtysoul music video, in which Tyler is in a car that explodes. Him putting on his bandito jacket at the end signifies the transition from the Blurryface era into the Trench era. The same when in NATN he is packing his backpack with his accessiores from the Blurryface era (white sunglasses, red beanie). The hooded figure IS Blurryface/Nico, the representation of Tyler's insecurities. He is 1 of 9 bishops in the city of DEMA, this is where Nico and the Niners takes place. Also the city sung about in Leave The City. Blurryface/Nico smears black on Tyler's throat and it spreads down his whole throat and hands. Tyler also did this for all the shows during the Blurryface era. The people on top of the mountains are the banditos, they help Tyler escape DEMA time and again. He is at their camp in Levitate. Though he is dragged back by Blurryface also time and again. Also the flowers and tape are yellow because that is a colour that the bishops can't see. It's the colour of the rebels/banditos. All the flowers in Tyler's room represent all the times he's tried to escape from DEMA. The "ritual" that the bishops were doing was that they were practicing "vialism", their religion. They also have the burning car on stage during their current live shows! It'd be so awesome if you did some research into the whole DEMA/Trench/bishops/banditos meanings! It is absolutely incredible what Tyler and Josh have come up with! Loved your reaction regardless of you not really knowing what the heck was going on XD!!

Ella Witte Tyler has said that they can’t see the colour yellow. For example in the Q&A for siruis XM Alt Nation. It’s on KZbin, you could watch that. And in the beginning of NATN, we hear audio being played backwards: we are banditos, you will leave DEMA and head true east, we denounce vialism.

So blurryface represents his insecurities. He grabs him at the end of levitate as a way of showing that you can't really escape your insecurities. Nico and the niners also represent his insecurities and the place that he was trapped in is called dema. Tyler portreyes how he is stuck in dema through the music video. Josh is shown as a Bandito and he's there to help Tyler escape Dema. The fans are also Banditoes showing how we help Tyler through his insecurities. He wears yellow because the bishops- (nico and the niners) "can't see yellow". Levitate shows the base of the Banditoes sense why there are many people there. If you have more questions just ask

@@ellaw6976 well this probably won't be extremely helpful but, nearing the end of the hiatus the boys created a website (which we found from a link on their official website). On this website they basically created a character (Clancy) and a new world (Dema). Fans got all of these details from "Clancy's" Letters that were updates on the website. In these letters we learned about how dema works, who controls dema and everything that goes on in Clancy's life. YES! TWENTY ØNE PILØTS! I love all twenty øne piløt songs!💕I think the best way to describe Blurryface is he's Tyler's insecurities and each of the people in the red hoods represent different insecurities Tyler has had to deal with. So the place in Nico and The Niners is Dema or Trench and so he's trying to escape. It's very complicated because we don't know the whole story so it's very hard to explain because there was the website and everything but I hope I helped a bit!😘💕

Hopefully this helps you out: 1) Jumpsuit: The car in the beginning is from the Heavydirtysoul music video. The red figure is Nico (Nico and the Niners). On the Blurryface album cover, there are 9 dots, each representing one bishop. Nico is chasing after Tyler (Nico represents anxiety and depression and Tyler represents his happiness). The banditos (they’re on Tyler’s side) drop the yellow petals that represent happiness, explaining why the horse was freaking out. Tyler gets out of the trance of giving up and tries to escape his depression, but then he fell, and Nico got him. (Also the figure at the end was Josh). The Jumpsuit represents a protection from his anxieties. 2) Nico and the Niners: The big building is Dema (there’s a lyric where it says “Dema don’t control us”), Tyler’s anxieties. They are holding him and others captive. The light is their happiness, making the bishops powerful. Then, the banditos go to rescue Tyler. The handshake they do is in the Stressed Out music video. The yellow tape is maybe a security from anxiety, remember yellow is happiness. 3) Levitate: The camp is where the Banditos stay to hide from Dema. Near the end, Nico finds the Banditos and takes Tyler back to Dema, this resulting in more anxiety and depression. Big oof. There may be typos, but I didn’t proofread. I also don’t think I covered everything, but that’s all I could think of.

this is my very brief description) so during the blurryface era, Tyler's hands and neck were painted black because music had been both a strength and weakness in his life, and he felt those were his insecurities and blurry face was basically the embodiment of his insecurities and in this, the place he's in is DEMA and its a place Tyler created as an escape and theres a bunch more that goes along with that but the character in the red hood is supposed to be burryface, hence why he was painting Tyler's neck black, Josh was on the cliff (he was the last person standing there) along with "the watchers" and Josh is also a part of the bandito's a group of rebels escaping DEMA. theres a very brief summery hahah

Its set in dema the world of blurryface. The bishops are chasing him to bring him back to dema because he keeps escaping with the banditos. Which is whats happening in the second music video. The bishops cant see yellow which is why there is yellow tape and petals. The yellow flowers in the room are all the times he has tried to escape. I would say this actually goes heavydirtysoul. Jumpsuit. Nico and the niners and then levitate. The banditos are good and the bishops are bad. The bishops are in charge of dema. Most of there videos have like a story plot which I love. Tyler created this other world in his mind. He calls it dema and in nico & niners how they did that handshake that’s something cool because they did that in the stressed out video from the blurryface album And in the levitate video how they were shaving Tyler’s head if you go back to the blurryface album he shaved his head in car radio. Hope this makes sense idk if it does lol The jumpsuit is a metaphor for something that Tyler Joseph believes to keep himself safe, it covers him from danger. Tyler (the singer, referred to as Clancy) and Josh (the drummer) are metaphorically part of the DEMA organization and live in a place with the same name, also called Tower of Silence. 9 bishops control the districts of DEMA, they limit the creativity and freedom of the people there by making them do simple things and live a simple and easy life. This way they can control them. Dead bodies are considered unpure and are put on top of a tower (that's why it's literally tower of silence), where vultures would eat their flesh and only the bones will remain, then they can be buried. Clancy (Tyler) was fine with keeping silent and "speaking simple things", but he eventually figured out that if he wanted to follow his path and dreams, he had to leave DEMA, but one of the nine bishops - Nico (also Blurryface, the one you see in the video), catches up to him. The other people that left DEMA (also wearing yellow, or the good color, while the bishops wear red) are on the cliff helping Tyler overcome his insecurities (the bishops all represent something bad, and Nico, or Blurryface, represenets his insecurities). And here we are.

Ok so blurryface (ie. Nico) is representation of Tyler’s insecurities, and the name Nico and the Niners is Nico/Blurryface and 8 other “bishops” that represent other aspects of his insecurities (on the album cover before trench, Blurryface, there are 9 dots which are the bishops) and in the trilogy, firstly Tyler is seen in the river in the big TRENCH (the trench signifys the mental hole he has in his depression, and he tries to get out of the trench, and josh and the Banditos, who signify Tyler’s Friends and family, try to help him from outside the trench but really they can’t be entirely with him in the trench to help him. Then Blurryface comes and drags him back to the deepest darkest part of his mind, which is signified by the city of Dema, which is seen in the Nico and The Niners video. I’m not sure why the bishops were making lightbulbs in that vid, but basically in that vid he managed to get out of Dema again, and then in the levitate video, someone betrays him and he gets grabbed right back- Long story short, the trilogy is about trying to get out of depression, and the setbacks and issues you may face while in the process- all this info I got from a bunch of KZbin vids and etc, but if there’s anything I said wrongly someone correct me in the comments- Tom if u see this and if u want a better explanation dm me on insta @shiv.de.one :)

Blurryface, which is also the name of the previous album by the boys, is Tyler's insecurities personified. DEMA is I think Tyler's mind while Blurryface is in charge. Nico is another name for Blurryface and the Niners are the other Bishops around Blurryface, and I think they all have songs about them on the Blurryface album, I could be wrong but Trench is symbolizing Tyler's mental health and how he's learning to get over his own insecurities. Okay, so basically, if you're interested, this is my understanding of the videos: Tyler is in a place called DEMA where the Bishops (dudes with the red cloaks) create and worship these white neon lights. Tyler has confirmed that the Bishops cannot see yellow, so it makes sense that they would try and make something similar to a bright yellow light to replace it. Tyler realized that this is not where he wants to be or how he wants to live, so he gathers his friends and family and escapes, using yellow torches and the music he's created to guide them. To Tyler, yellow represents comfort, freedom, happiness, creativity, and support from his loved ones. That's why when Nico/Blurryface comes to capture Tyler in the Trench and marks his neck with black, his friends and family save him by showering him with yellow flowers and giving him the motivation he needed to keep on running. Levitate shows Tyler and his "Banditos" decked out in yellow and playing music, enjoying their time before Tyler is sucked back into DEMA.

Most people are explaining the literal meaning behind everything, so I guess I'll try to explain some of the more symbolic meaning. Nico/ Blurryface/ the Niners/ Bishops: Tyler's insecurities Banditos: Tyler's family, friends, and supporters who have helped him to get through/ overcome his insecurities Yellow: In color theory, yellow represents happiness, so there is most likely symbolism in that Dema(the city): The place/ mindset Tyler needs to escape from in order to move on/ progress in his life. He has to keep escaping because mental ilness is chronic, and is not something that there is a cure for, only treatment. So the cycle repeats itself over and over again, with his family and friends supporting him- which is why there are so many flowers in the drawer when he opens it in Nico and the Niners. At least- that's what I got from these videos:/ Also, Heavy Dirty Soul was probably expressing his first descent into mental illness and how inevitable and hopeless he felt. In these three most recent videos, he is fighting back against the insecurities; he is no longer helpless or hopeless.

Okay so blurry face is basically all of Tyler's insecurities and the other people in the red hoods (bishops) are all other Insecurities he has to deal with. When blurryface rubbed the black paint on his neck that is a call back to when he used to paint his neck black for shows and other things and it would slowly rub off and the paint represented his insecurities that would slowly go away as time went on but blurryface brings them back. The trilogy is basically a metaphor of the fight against inner demons and mental illness. The dudes in red are the "bishops" and there are nine of them, one of which is Nico, the one who followd Tyler on a horse in Jumpsuit. Each one of them represent something hard to fight inside, but Nico is that one that doesn't really fit into parameters and is constantly following you back to that place where you think you are safe but you're not. Here they call it Dema and it is the place where Nico and the Niners takes place. The camo guys are the Banditos, and they represent the ones that love you and try to help you being out of Dema. Nico (Nikolas Bourbaki) is actually the real name of Blurryface, which represents Tyler's insecurities. You should take a look that in the Blurryface era mvs Tyler painted his neck and hands with black, that's because he's insecure about his voice nd the stuff he writes and that represented Blurryface. Aside of that dema is a real place that doesn't look exactly like that, but it's connected with one of the oldest religions. The tower of silence was built by Zoroastrians for excarnation - that is, for dead bodies to be exposed to carrion birds, usually vultures, because they believed that death wasn't a good thing. Dema represents being limited and controled, east is up is because sun is rising from east and that's the only exit from dema. Josh is part of the group so called "banditos" that are trying to help tyler to escape from dema. Trench is the place outside of dema. And the man with the red hood in the jumpsuit video which takes place in trench is called Keons and tries to take Tyler back to dema and staying silent. But in the end he gets him. And everything it's a big loop. PS. It's also connected to the heavydirtysoul mv.

Also MV explanation: It continues from HeavyDirtySoul. In HDS they have a car crash (the burning car). Blurryface is a character from the previous album, which back then was just Tyler with red eyes and the black on his neck. Now, Nico (the guy on the horse) is Blurryface. Tyler was excaping from Nico/Blurryface in Jumpsuit, but in the end Nico got to him. Josh/the others were there to help Tyler (they're the Bandito's), and they were throwing yellow flower petals cause Nico can't see yellow. In Nico and the Niners Tyler was back in Dema, where the Niners have control. Nico is part of that group, so you can imagine what the others are like. In the end the Bandito's broke him out. At the very end you can see someone taping yellow on Tyler's shoulder so he can't be seen by the Niners. In Levitate they are at the Bandito camp. They are like the resistance against Dema. However, Tyler somehow gets caught and brought back to Dema at the end of the video (tbh still not sure why considering he was decked in yellow tape).

Welcome to the clique fren. He actually did melt a shoe at a concert. 07:44 - every new fan, ever. No shade, I'm serious. There is sooo much to learn and listen to and lots and lots of thinking. :) You've gotten some pretty good responses already. The concert thing is in reference to the line "and start a concert/a complete diversion" so the banditos (peeps in yellow) are playing a concert to create a diversion during the bishop conclave thing. He talks in other songs about how "in city, I feel my spirit is contained/ Like neon inside the glass, they form my brain" (In song bandito) So the idea is that the bishops control and form the thoughts in your brain - hence the neon lights they are creating in NaTN. idk if any of that helps at all. In Jumpsuit, Blurryface snatched tyler back to bring him to Dema, which is in nico and the niners. The other red cloaked people are the bishops. Bishops are blind to the color yellow, so they put yellow tape on to try to escape. :)

I don’t know how many people already commented this but the guys from the cliff who threw the petals are called Banditos and they’re here to help Tyler get out of his mind he’s trapped in. They want to help him out if Dema (wich represents the building in Nico and the Niners) the red hooded guys are called the 9 bishops while the one from Jumpsuit is represented as Blurryface. The character that represents Tyler’s insecurities. He wants to escape Dema wich is kind of the room and world for all his darkest thoughts and insecurities. And the bishops are keeping him trapped in it. So the Banditos come and try to help him get out of Dema. They put yellow tape on him so the bishops won’t recognize him in the group of Banditos. Josh is kind of the leader of the Banditos wich also shows that Josh is really important to Tyler and he helps him a lot when he has anxiety and is trapped in his own mind. Trench is kind of the opposite of Dema. The Banditos live there. On the album if you listen closely the last sounds of the song Jumpsuit are the beginning sound of Levitate. So on the album the trilogy order is : Jumpsuit/Levitate/Nico and the Niners. But according to the Music Videos it’s Jumpsuit/Nico and the Niners/Levitate.

Everyone seems to have caught you up on the explanations. But another little interesting fact is that the neon lights that the bishops are worshipping around during NATN actually take the shape of an upside down clique symbol. The new double bar logo for the Trench era adds an extra layer of protection onto the early graves and those that are struggling to find hope but the bishops are worshipping this neon light as a celebration of an early grave (someone that’s taken their life.) Because the bishops represent some form of evil, this is some from of an achievement for them. In Dema the clique symbol is flipped, to represent a loss of hope, sort of like an inverted cross. This also ties in with neon gravestones. The whole album connects. ☺️

The black paint Nico smears on Tyler's neck is what Tyler used to do in the Blurryface era, painting his throat black to represent him being "choked up" and insecure about his singing. He painted his hands black to represent his insecurity about his writing. Now Nico is doing that to him again. Basically Dema (where Nico and the Niners takes place) represents depression/a bad mental state and the Bishops are all different insecurities, who drag him back to Dema every time. Trench is when you finally let loved ones, in this case the Banditos, help you. This is shown by the yellow colour, for the Bishops cannot see the colour yellow. "East is up" means East is where they get out of Trench, and the fact that it's up is because of Leviate. "I can learn to levitate with just a little help" I can get out of Trench with help. "Flying from a fire from Nico and the Niners" is that the fire is his passion and inspiration for music, and he used to get that from the Bishops, his insecurities, they were his fire. But now he's flying -going up and out of Trench- from that fire, Nico and the Niners. I spent weeks on doing research okay

I’m sure you understand the meanings now due to all the comments! Can’t imagine how confusing it must of been watching these for the first time without any clue of what’s going on lol. The summer before/during the release of Jumpsuit/NatN, there was a website called dmainfo.org that posted weird pictures w/ strange titles (that later made more sense w the release of trench and the music videos) and an occasional journal entry from a character named “Clancy” who is presumably stuck in DEMA. This gave all of us a little context to the music videos and allowed us to understand the meaning of some details in the videos. It’d be cool to see you do a video going through some theories or other things like the dmainfo.org website to try and piece things together like the fans did when it started happening, it’s really fun! There’s sooo much to the whole DEMA universe and it’s amazing to see what the band has to offer besides their music. I think you might enjoy experiencing some of those things!

I’m forty now, and Trench blew my mind like nothing musically I’ve heard before. But it wasn’t just the album itself...although it’s great, it was the realization that everything was intentional and tied together. The themes, the skeleton costumes Tyler wore in live shows, the |-/ logo, the band name, the Ø in TøP, the album art on BlurryFace, the neck and hand paint, even the color themes...everything was intentional and had a purpose. For me, it was a thrill to research and discover the references... but to provide a jumping off point: Dema was a name given to the Tower of Silence. This was a place where the ancient religion of Zoroastrians would place the dead to be open to the elements and scavengers and the elements would clean the decaying flesh until nothing remained but the skeletons which was then placed in a trench and buried together. Also check out Nicolas Bourbaki as Tyler decided to use that as the name for Blurry Face...i.e. Nico. Also realize that often double meanings are involved. There is often a Christian perspective, but a broader meaning as well. Trees for example (I believe) was originally written in a purely Christian perspective...but it appeared on three albums and to this day is the song they close their shows with, but clearly means something more than its original meaning. Hi Tom I've loved watching you discover all this great music and the accompanying videos. I think a great video for you to watch is actually My Blood. Its from Trench so I know you love it but It doesn't really have any connections to other videos of theirs. Car Radio is another great one to watch... Its a banger which I know you love and the video suits so well. Heathens would be another one... visually awesome. Hope you do watch them and enjoy them as much as I do. Also I did see them In Brisbane for their Bandito tour and it was just phenomenal.

Alright, so there's a simple version and a complex (metaphorical) version. I'm going to do my best to stick mainly to the simple version, but I will talk a little bit about the metaphors and my personal understanding of them as well (though there are multiple ways to interpret things). The simple version to really understand them as music videos is this: Jumpsuit starts with Tyler having escaped from the red-cloaked people called bishops. Tyler wakes up in Trench, which is the area surrounding Dema (I'll explain Dema later) and sees people standing above the ravine, but he doesn't know who they are yet. Soon, one of the bishops arrives to bring Tyler back, and it appears he is succeeding until the people above the ravine throw the petals down on Tyler. In TOP lore, the bishops cannot see the color yellow, so they are doing this to cover his escape. This snaps Tyler out of it, and he tries to run, but he trips and falls, causing him to be taken back by the bishop anyways. I'm still not sure how the shots of Tyler standing on top of a burning car factor into any of this. Nico and the Niners opens after Tyler has been brought back to a place called Dema, which is pretty much the bishops' center of command, and the prison that they are keeping Tyler in. When the bishops are holding a ceremony of some kind, Tyler decides to escape again (I guess the bishops don't have great security), but gets stopped by the people from atop the trench in Jumpsuit. These people are called the Banditos, led by Josh, and they are people who have similarly escaped from Dema. Now, in I believe the Zoroastrian religion, the term Dema meant "Tower of Silence", and going by that definition, the concert scene was an act of defiance by Tyler, Josh, and the Banditos, and it worked to snap some people out of the bishops' control, as suggested by the scene with the kids at the end. After playing a quick song, the Banditos make their escape. Levitate begins with the Banditos having escaped to Trench and setting up camp for the night in celebration of Tyler's escape. Tyler shaves his head, which I think is meant to symbolize a rebirth, a change in his physical appearance to show how he has changed by escaping his prison. Everything appears to be going well until the bishops catch up to Tyler once again. This is where I start to get into the metaphors. From my understanding, Dema is meant to represent the darkness and depression within Tyler's mind. It's the place he goes when he's at his darkest, and it feels akin to a prison. (Similarly, Tyler has said that music helps him get over his depression, so the absolute worst place his mind could create for him is a Tower of Silence.) Trench is the place in his mind immediately surrounding Dema, and it's where he escapes to so he can feel better. However, you can't outrun depression, which is why, at the end of Levitate, the bishop grabs him again, pulling him back into the darkness. Each escape attempt, he tries to spend more and more time away from Dema, hoping to someday escape it forever. Tyler speaks more about it in the final song on the album. He's been in this loop for a while, but he knows that it's almost over. In time, he will Leave the City. For now, he will Stay Alive. ||-//

You should watch the Heavydirtysoul music video. It's like a prequel to the trilogy and explains the burning car. Dema's the world of insecurities Tyler created (To feel some control) and he tries to escape with the Banditos (people in yellow and khaki). Blurryface is Nicholas Bourbaki (Or Nico) and is the manifested version of Tyler's insecurities, fears, depression, anxiety, etc. Trench is where the Banditos go and that's the place where Tyler keeps trying to escape to, (I believe). The yellow is a sign of happiness and also the colour of the Banditos, something the bishops (Nico and the niners) can't see, and when there's yellow around the bishops lose there effect on people, meaning when there's yellow, the citizens of Dema have free thought and can try to escape (I think). It's definitely complicated.

Explaining time... so in jumpsuit he tried to escape but then when he ran he tripped so then he got pulled back to Dema (witch is the city) then in nico and the niners he tried to escape again by going under ground and it worked also in nico and the niners Tyler said “Dema don’t control us Dema don’t control...east is up” and so on. In Levitate it’s Tyler, josh and the Bandidos escaped and then Tyler gets pulled back to Dema by the neck by “blurry-face” and there you have it...👍
