For schizophrenia you need the "diathesis", which is the genetic predisposition and an event that sparks it. It's most commonly diagnosed in early adulthood, especially when people leave home for the first time because it's such a big stressor and change. And the event doesn't need to be like, one big traumatic thing (although it can be), just any stressful circumstance

The last case - the parents should have been sued by the victim's families. They knew about their son's sickness and did nothing. It's not "he might be ill", they locked themselves in their bedrooms at night beacause they were scared of him, they knew he was at the point where he was dangerous to himself and others.

The only image I get from the words "partially decapitated" is Nearly-Headless Nick in the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone movie showing WHY he was called "Nearly-Headless" to the kids while at the dinner table on the first night at Hogwarts. So, it's not like we haven't seen that sort of thing before. Traumatized everyone then.

Yeah probably didn't help, my cousin basically was in the same spot as him, football, drugs, fitness and abusing mushrooms triggered schizophrenia he didn't know he had. All the sudden he started becoming manic and thinking he was invincible, saying fucked up things on social media. I'm pretty sure he's in therapy now and is getting better, I stopped talking to him for things he did. The dude in this case eerily reminds me of my cousin, lowkey looks the same, acts the same, weird things man.

Think of schizophrenia as more of a category of interrelated disorders. For some, there are triggers. I had a friend who found out he was schizophrenic the first time he smoked weed. It made him super super paranoid and he started hallucinating, and it only partially went away when the weed wore off. Started seeing a shrink a few days later, and was pretty quickly diagnosed as schizophrenic.

I still find the last story very sad, if only mental health was more normalized back then. Heck, I didn’t even get anti-depressants till my mid 20’s, and it made life so much easier, I’ll never go back! I’m not exactly sure what I have besides anxiety, depression, and possibly autism, but finally I felt my mind was at ease from a lot of frustration and small things that bothered me, like made my skin crawl! It just feels amazing and it greatly improved my life.

As someone with a long history of psycosis, it started around 8 years old for me. And slowly got worse, I remember I told my mother about voices, seeing things, and thinking I wasn't real, she told me that it was just spirits and angels talking to me (she's not even religious just a hippy). She also insisted that I CANNOT ever tell anyone because they would call me crazy and lock me away forever. So I never told my therapist and ended up trying to un alive myself at 15. Still dealing with symptoms to this day but it's gotten a little easier. Drs thinks it's psychotic C-PTSD or schizoaffective (depressive type) or both lol

48:31 i COMPLETELY don't agree. Why would you punish someone for something completely out of his control? You could see the psych ward as punishment, and, ok, he NEEDS that to fix his head, but he does NOT deserve punishment for going insane, with no fault of his own. His parents are more at fault for not getting him help, or encouraging him to seek help, they let this happen. He had no control over it. Would you say someone passing out while driving, no drugs, no alcohol, just passing out and hitting people, is at fault? Or an accident?
@thatonebraziliancity8226 ай бұрын
obviously this doesn't go for all mental health facilities, but, I've heard some people beg to get sent to prison after being in some certain institutions for a while. I do hope that this guy gets the help that he needs, shame on his parents, they should probably minimally get fined for negligence. I unfortunately can't find much empathy for him as actions were so sickening and vile that it's hard to imagine anyone doing that without any realization of their actions in the moment, even if it's definitely possible that he's a good man that was truly 100% gone mentally, seeing his eyes completely devoid of any emotion on that stand was terrifying. Damn this is complicated....
@ThePunkina15 ай бұрын
Schizophrenia literally makes it impossible to tell what's real or not when you get to stages like that that person literally has no control over their actions this happens because it's not treated and taken seriously it's mostly on his parents for not doing anything about their kids health and now he has to live a life knowing he did that and his parents to blame they should be charged for neglect

Perhaps the THC is what triggered it for him too. It’s a thing.

Schizophrenia is like any other mental illness. Let's take anxiety for instance! Anxiety can come on gradually as a result of internal stimuli (not being sure about tests, speaking in front of crowds, those "small" things) or external stimuli (someone telling you you're not good enough, not to do something, etc). Or it can come on by a catalyst, say a traumatic event or drugs that alter your brain chemistry in juuuuust the wrong way. Schizophrenia is the same way. It can come on gradually, so gradually that you don't notice it but others around you might because you're starting to get a bit weird compared to usual. There's even cases of childhood/juvenile schizophrenia where the signs are there from a very young age and it's even more jarring because you don't expect a child to exhibit those sorts of symptoms. In people who are already predisposed to schizophrenia, a traumatic event or drugs can absolutely sort of "activate" that dormant schizophrenia and pull it up to the surface. That's how it's believed to have happened with that college football player who ate the guy's face that you referenced in this video: taking drugs accelerated the schizophrenia genes he got from his dad's side and pulled it up to the surface, causing his psychotic break. It's really interesting stuff, as someone who has a family history of it! Another fun fact! Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are comorbid! What that means, is if you inherit one, you inherit both :) Family history of bipolar? Hah! You also have family history of schizophrenia. You may not exhibit symptoms of both, but say your mom has bipolar disorder, you could develop either. It was found in twin studies, which I also find extremely fascinating.

yeah it’s called a Baker Act and it’s a law here in Florida where the family of someone with mental health issues can get them involuntary committed somewhere and hopefully get them diagnosed if they haven’t been already and begin a treatment plan (most likely medications), as well as keep them under observation so they cannot hurt themselves or others.
