So.......as quick as this is, it's not the world's most economical technique lol. Contrast paints are by far the most expensive by Citadel, and this one miniature alone would cost...$35. On JUST the contrast paints. I'm not even factoring in army painter stuff since most everyone who's into this would already have all that. This is....*not* a good guide, or tutorial, or whatever. This is a sales pitch, pure and simple.
@WatchItPaintIt2 жыл бұрын
I’m not quite sure why you think this. I didn’t buy any extra paints for this :D I had them all, I paid for them all myself… I doubt I’m the only person who already owns all this stuff and paid for it themselves? I’m sorry you think it’s a sales pitch for some reason! Also, don’t negate your time… saving myself an hour per miniature is worth more than the cost of paints to me! Although, I can very much appreciate not everyone has the same time:cost ratios!

Super achievable paint job. Tried the new AP metallic speed paints on these figs yesterday. Your solution works so much better.
@WatchItPaintIt Жыл бұрын
Did you prime in white or silver for the metallic Speedpaints? Very interesting to know. I think if I can prime silver I’d do it this way. On a miniature with little bits of metallics I’d use the Speedpaint option
@mih2 Жыл бұрын
@@WatchItPaintIt I slapchopped it with black, a light grea and white, expecting more of a contract from the speedpaints. There was very little to no contrast. You live and learn.
@WatchItPaintIt Жыл бұрын
@@mih2 ahhhh! Yes! The metallics contrast is really subtle. You need to shake it really well (like normal) but you need to shake right up to the second you pour it, then you need to work fast - it separates on the palette while you’re painting! I keep stirring mine while I’m painting. But even with that I’d probably only advise painting pieces of metal, like a sword or helmet here and there. If the majority of the miniature is metal it’s probably a much better bet to do it with a silver undercoat and one of the yellows on top. Keep experimenting! Like you said you gotta live and learn. Keep the feedback coming. Appreciate it. You can see I’ve not remade this tutorial using the metallic Speedpaints… for a reason :-D did you see our Vashtorr video? I think they all worked quite well there. For the time and effort I was happy with the look

Very nice way of approaching gold armor, I am interested on knowing in what way this is actually faster than the typical retributor armor spray + reikland fleshade, and the highlights, Thx!
@WatchItPaintIt3 жыл бұрын
It's not faster - about the same amount of time. But the gold is less "loud" and more weathered looking. Just a slightly different look than the standard GW box art :)

definitely using this method on my next gold armor mini, much easier than painting it gold and then trying to shade the recesses.

It all depends on which look you prefer. The spray on gold is much shinier, the contrast paint gold has better areas of dark and light. Both take the same amount of time to paint, I believe.

Great video and the mini looks great! I'm not convinced you actually painted it in 30 mins though... The video itself is 30 mins long but you sped up most of the painting and also skipped many parts of the process. In particular, you only showed a small amount of the time consuming parts such as highlighting and the 3 coats of blue on the shield. I know saying that you painted it super fast gets more views, but I personally think honesty is more important.
@WatchItPaintIt3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks! So it won’t have been exactly 30 minutes, but it won’t have been far off, in fact I say in the video 25-30. I think minus the camera being there (it’s massively in my way and slows me down) and talking while painting is a huge impact on my efforts, it would actually be faster than 30 minutes. Bare in mind the speeded up bits are only about 2x, and the skipped bits are normally so I can do that bit off cam (as it’s boring to watch the same over and over) and off cam I did those coats of blue in literal seconds (I don’t count drying time as I do other stuff in that time) :-D the highlights will have taken a while but if you look close, I wasn’t that accurate :-D it was rushed. I actually used to time my paint times (it’s easy when I film the entire job start to finish) and used to put the exact times in the outros but I moved away because I’d always be under an hour, often under 30 mins, and occasional in the teens! While I personally like painting fast and getting stuff done I didn’t like people thinking it matters - take your time, do what you enjoy! You’re totally right about putting the speed in the thumbnail gets more views, nearly every single video I’ve ever done is fast :-D and a lot are faster than this and I didn’t bother putting the time in the thumbnail! That’s just playing the stupid KZbin game. So yeah, apologies I stopped timing exactly, and this might be give or take some minutes. I have painted four of these Vindictors now and the other two were in my one hour lunch break! (Haven’t done the base still). They were slightly easier sculpts than this one, so again it’s not exactly fair but I think give or take it’s hopefully not dishonest? Hopefully this reply helps you feel less cheated!
