I pretty much agree with a few comments that I've already read here. I liked you pulling the game off the shelf to open and putting it back to close while you did some intro/extro talk (is extro a word?), but didn't like the shaky cam that went with it. I liked you trying to make it more inviting, but thought it was a bit odd to see behind the camera (thought you were going to bang your head on the lights...). I barely noticed your 5 seconds at the end to subscribe and like, which in a way perhaps is not good for you. Why not also add the words to your closing slide with all the other links and credits? For example, you have the words "Thanks for watching" moving across the top. Why not just change it to "Thanks for watching, and please subscribe and like." and make it not move. I was Pro-Polo, but honestly didn't care while watching the video. BTW: That game looks like fun.

Rodney, I've seen you use those clear plastic containers in more than a few videos, and I'm guessing you use them in actual games you play and not just for your videos. Thank you for another teach. To be honest, I really don't miss the polo shirt. I am more than happy with your new look. The only two things I didn't like about the new intro is that it's a tiny bit too much movement, which made me a little seasick. I also don't like that you can see the film lights, by which I mean I don't want to have a behind-the-scenes look in your teach videos. It looks a bit too unprofessional. However, to finish on a positive, I did like you standing in front of your game shelf and pulling out the game you're going to teach. That's a lovely touch. Maybe just cut to the table after the intro, rather than film you walking over. Anyway, keep experimenting. I like it. :)

Rodney, quick question when it comes to expansions. I have The Herb Witches expansion and since it doesnt have any extra fortune cards to add and/or replace, we came across a situation where we drew the one that says all players can upgrade a colored ingredient to the next highest level. Other parts of the herb witches will mention it doesnt include pumpkins (since herb's introduces a 6), but with original fortune deck there won't be this disclaimer. Would you say this turns into a "house rule" and agree to allow (or possibly not) an upgrade from a 1 pumpkin to a 6 pumpkin if this ever gets drawn again? Just wondering what you would do? (by the way, it was my wife, son, and I playing, and we allowed it since it was an easy way to get a pumpkin 6 in the first round being the first card we drew! what a game changer)

There is nothing in the rule book about each player starting with a ruby. Unless I've missed it. I don't think I have though as I asked some other people. Anyway it doesn't matter so much, just in case it was bugging anybody else. Or maybe there's different versions of the rule book or something.

I like the changes, except selfie cam. I like taking the game off the shelf though. Maybe do that with the camera set up on the tripod. The shakiness and the lights etc getting into the frame really detract from the professionalism. Grabbing the game off the shelf is good though, and fits with the feel you're trying to achieve. Aside: Who grabs a game off of a shelf, teaches it, and then packs it up and puts it away without playing??? :)

Great video, I have a question about the green chip. In the second phase, when you need to evaluate the "last chip" or the "next-to-the last chip," do they count as chips? or do they count as the spaces that these chips occupied? Like the minute 9:36 example, if the last green chip is a 2 value chip, it means that this chip will occupy the 9 space in the pot, leaving a blank space between the 1 value green chip and the 2 value green chip, so we can apply the same effect to gain the two rubies, or this blank space is interfering with the "next-to-the last chip" order. I hope I made myself clear, thanks for the help!
@WatchItPlayed10 ай бұрын
I'm not completely sure I understand your question, but let me try answering this way: you do not worry about spaces between your last and next-to last chip. The effect is only concerned with "the last two chips" in your pot, even if there are spaces between them.

The rules didn't change - it was omitted in the translation. We made sure to include it in the video. Hey Peter, this is referring to here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npTZfGl7rdp8ia8 Purple is set by the table, but not considered "in play" until a later round - as the video will show later. Being "in play" doesn't mean having those chips on your board - it means having access to them at all (these get unlocked during a later round of the game) - hope that helps!

14:02 in the rules it’s say you can take 1 VP per 5 coins OR 2 rubies for 1VP.. I think the or condition means it’s one or the other not both..?
@WatchItPlayed Жыл бұрын
You're missing one small (but important) part of what the rules say: "At the end of the last turn, you can decide to buy a victory point with either 5 coins or 2 rubies. You can repeat this as often as you like.". That last part means you can do this again, as many times as you like (choosing either method each time). I agree, the way it's worded could have been even more clear, but I hope that helps!

I don't understand what's the point in everyone drawing the chips at the same time in the last round. Is it any different if we don't do that? Or am I missing something?
@WatchItPlayed4 жыл бұрын
I believe the point is to allow people to have a better sense of everyone's progress, one chip at a time, so that when you decide whether or not to draw again, you can be aware of how well everyone else is doing and whether or not you NEED to draw again, in order to keep up. You could actually play the entire game this way, but I don't recommend it, because it would slow things down way too much, but during that final round, it makes sense to do.

And in regards to any shirt comments, you ware whatever you want ;) Oh... almost forgot... why stop before explaining the other side of the board? Looks like it would have taken you an extra 15seconds. Not a complaint... but as a guy trying to grow a channel himself, I’m curious.
@WatchItPlayed5 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed! I want the videos to be comprehensive, but also as concise as possible. I don't tend to cover things that people won't see in their first few plays. My feeling is that those extras will need to be re-learned at the time someone decides to try to play them, so teaching something that is likely to be forgotten by that time feels less helpful. Some people will be curios of course, but thankfully all these companies put their rules online for free, so they are easy enough to look up if a person is invested enough in knowing.

I have 2 questions. 1- In round 9, If my cauldron exploded and I have chosen the VPs(I can't buy VPs for a value of 5), Can I buy a VPs with 2 rubies? I think that spending rubies are F) of The phases of scoring. 2- In round 9, If my cauldron not exploded, can we buy victory points by both of coin and rubies at the last turn? for example if we have 6 rubies and 20 coin, we buy 7 victory paints?

1) Yes. 2) I'm not looking at the board to know if your math is right, but your understanding of the rules are right.

What a great video. Played this last week with friends but admit I didn't get it totally. Thought it would be a good one to play with the kids so ordered it. Got back well late last night from our heroquest night and was , at midnight, trying to teach it to my youngest. I was flailing a bit as couldn't quite remember how everything worked so kept having to refer to the booklet which is annoying and makes for slow gameplay. You explained it so clearly I think another couple of watches and run through and we will all be clear on exactly how it all works bit the kid had fun so yay.

Hi, great video. Plan on playing this today with my kids. Can you clear something up for me please (im probably being stupid tho) Only victory points can move you around the board? Also, coins - do we just record how many coins we have on a piece of paper? Sorry if these are obvious 😅!
@WatchItPlayed3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jimmy, yes, victory points are what move you around the board. For coins, we usually just hold the total value in our memory ("I have 20 coins, and I'm buying these 2 chip for X and Y each"). Anything you don't spend in a round is lost, so there's nothing to record.

The 2-player variant of the moth says: "If you draw as many black chips as the other player: ". Is "0" a valid number of occurences for this effect to trigger? And since it defines the number as "drawn" and not "in your pot", do moths drawn during the skull effect (v1) always count or only if put into the pot (and not put back into the bag)?
@WatchItPlayed5 жыл бұрын
No, you need to have at least 1 for the effect to trigger - and they need to be placed in your pot.

Great video! I am now watching all of your videos of games I have to see if I have stuffed any rules up. Only question is, are we ment to start with a ruby? I can't see it in the rules. But I am known for acciddently skipping parts in the rule book

Hope the videos help Edward! The rule book was missing that instruction about the ruby in the translation.

Thanks for the great intro. So question regarding rat tails. Im on number 5 and she is on number 3. Are there any rat tails between us? Since the rat is on number 5. Or does this rat tail count?
@WatchItPlayed5 ай бұрын
If you look at where your token would be on five, and the token on 3, you should find that there is a rat tail between you (the one that is just below the 5). Hope that helps!

Except for the fact that you would be doubling up on board/pot colors, and have to do something to differentiate the repeat score markers, is there any functional reason why you couldn't combine 2 sets of this game to increase the max player count up to 8? It looks very possible to me. I just want a second opinion heh.

Seems like that would work.

I'm planning to teach this to my gaming crew -- Tío Mike, Chief Lonas, and Coach Scott -- and this video does an amazing job to prep for that tutorial effort! I played this game once with a friend who taught me, so I bought the game and now get a chance to teach to the gaming group. Thanks so much Rodney for organizing the video in a natural, concise and fun to watch format.
