Nearly all Christmas horror films are campy and fun. "Black Christmas" is different. It is one of the most chilling, unsettling, and all-around tense films I've ever seen. A masterpiece of the genre.

Krampus should be higher on the list. Even though Black Christmas is a classic, Krampus is a definitive Christmas horror movie. It plays out as a family Christmas movie gone to hell. Not only does it feature folklore and makes all of the iconic elements of Christmas creepy, but it has a very relevant & timeless message about the holiday season. In it's roots, it's another heartwarming Christmas movie, but it just happens to feature some freaky creatures.

Jessica Johnson Yeah , it was honestly such a good and enjoyable film in my opinion . But I think the reason was because it was a Horror Comedy and there was a bit more Comedy. Maybe if it was a full on Horror Film , it would be higher on the list . But at least that's what I think .

All of you complaining that gremlins isn't scary did not have parents that made you watch it at around two years old. Do you know how terrifying and traumatising that film is to a toddler? Gremlins gave me nightmares for most of my life and although I can watch most horror films with no effect I still cannot watch gremlins due to the trauma it gave me. It wasn't the first horror movie I watched, don't remember what was. I started watching horror movies when I was 4 and by the time I was 10-12 or so I didn't find 1 of them the least bit scary. Whenever I watch them I can't help but burst out laughing at them, and I usually look for the "scariest" ones made. Not sure my first, but Child's Play, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser and Halloween I had watched before I was through the first grade. After those I was always trying to find horror movies to watch to see if I would get scared, to this day I haven't been aside from a few jump scares in movies.

Silent Night Deadly Night should have been #1, I think its actually one of the more interesting slasher films of the 80's because the hero is also the villain and his story is psychological and tragic where as Black Christmas is often praised simply for being one of the first of its kind but in all fairness the movie is dated, poorly paced and the characters are unlikeable.

Watch Mojo - how could you possibly forget "A Christmas Carol"? It was a ghost story, and scary at times. Some modern ones have been sanitized, but the 1951 version starring Alister Simms did have some very dark, frightening moments.
