Star Wars peaked with return of the Jedi for me. Return of the King is the best film in Lord of the rings. And Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man film ever made.

Toy Story 2, it completely expanded the world of the first one and introduced interesting themes like kids stopping playing with toys when they grow up and a toy's purpose in life

Glad someone in the comments spoke up. Toy Story 2 is the epitome of a perfect sequel, even 25 years later. The only Pixar sequel aside from Toy Story 3 which would even remotely rival how good it is would be Inside Out 2.

Most recently, I think "Smile 2" is a good one. It's better than the first movie which imo was unexpectedly pretty damn good. Smile 2 takes the first movie and tosses it to the side so that Smile 2 can up the scares, up the gore and even give a better backstory for the main protagonist. Smile 2 should be on a "Top 30 Horror sequels that surpassed the original"

@stephenmiller2337 I don’t agree with Avengers: Age Of Ultron I think it’s a bad film in my view but then I’m not a big MCU or Avengers guy, so I don’t agree with MCU films on this list apart from Captain America: Civil War. I’m not a John Wick guy either. Magnum Force I have not seen and Before Sunset. I’m not even with Lethal Weapon 2 I saw it all the way through. The Lord Of The Rings films listed I consider them all 3 one story so they are parters I would say.

I do think The Dark Knight though I like it it did become hyped after Heath Ledger’s death, Terminator 2: Judgment Day I find a bit overrated compared to the original but I get it’s impact and X-Men 2 or whatever it’s called I think there are story problems well in my view.

My all time favorite movie sequel is The Empire Strikes Back. A much more darker movie and the stakes were higher. Vader’s presence was more ominous, and the introduction of Yoda brought a more compelling view of the Force.

Spider-Man 2 has some decent action, but there are some absolutely ludicrous non-sensical sequences - throwing the car at Peter, the impossible throw on the train, and the screaming women are just three!!

Kung Fu Panda 2: Lord Shen was basically the Lord Frieza of the movie to Po's Goku, Tigress became Po's Best Friend/Ally and finally let her stern persona down showing her vulnerability (kinda the Krilin/Piccolo of the movie as her suffering/attempted sacrifice enraged-then-encouraged Po to confront Shin and his Cannon), Beautiful Gongmen City, Emotional Rollercoaster of a movie, etc.

@SuperBoy-ps9dz I agree on Star Wars Episode Vl : Return Of The Jedi, though yes I agree on criticism made for the film, Toy Story 2 I agree also as with The Dark Knight. Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade I agree on too I do think technically the predecessors of Return Of The Jedi are technically better, Toy Story 2 like the first one groundbreaking but in different ways. The Dark Knight I just like again points made on the film some I agree on. Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade I think is a good follow up to the original I’ve not seen Frozen 2, Inside Out 2 and Grown Ups 2. With the two I’ve not listed I think they are ok.

Batman Returns. The first film was already great, but the sequel got very experimental whilst still retaining DC's dark tone and Burton's artistic charm. Kung Fu Panda 2. Lord Shen was a more sinister villain compared with Tai Lung, and the story had a more personal challenge for Po. The Last Crusade. Temple of Doom was technically a prequel, and it had more of Salah and Marcus in it, and it was funnier than Raiders of the Lost Ark

Harry Potter 2 got me into Harry Potter and helped me get over my fears of the franchise when I was a kid then read the books. Lol Pitch Perfect 2 has much more comedy and I love seeing the Bellas do so much more than they did with the last one. I loved the original but I felt pretty disappointed that they didn't go to higher lengths like they do in the sequel and I felt like it made the movie feel short. How to Train Your Dragon 2 is such a heartwarming epic story and I love the music especially that flying music with Hiccup and Toothless. I've seen that movie alone much more times than the first or third one alone. :) In fact, I've seen all three of these second sequels more than the original or any of the other sequels. Lol EEP! :)

There are so many sequels that are better than their predecessors; some that were included on the Top 20 list but weren’t for this one. Perhaps this list should be expanded to include 50 sequels.

Early of this year, everybody I know has always asked me what rereleased movie do I like to go see. Spider-Man 2 or Shrek 2? I know Spider-Man 2 was a masterpiece for its amazing action scenes but I rather watch, Shrek 2. Why? Because one thing I never liked in Spider-Man 2 is that yes, the Dr Octopus stuff were freaken awesome, yes the struggles Peter Parker about school, his aunt and everything are relatable but the sad things is, they’re the main highlight of the feature. What is that movie really about? It’s just about MJ and Peter misunderstanding & they go and mope until MJ knows the reason why. God I hate that story. 😠 Come on, Peter, why do you want to date that awful person? Go stop Black Cat or go see the daughter of your apartments’ landlord, they like you as you are. Yeah, that whole moment in Spider-Man 2 was a waist of time for me 😂 In Shrek 2, Shrek & Fiona just wanted to see each other happy but the Fairy God Mother told Shrek that they will be if they stayed apart. To me, that’s much more eye tearing 💔 than being a bitch somebody for not showing to their play.

You put several sequels that were questionable whether they are better than the first (Deadpool 2) amd didn't put THE TWO TOWERS! List completley invalidated imo, at least the top 10 is. Lol

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is better than The Fellowship of the Ring. I know that they’re based on books but it’s true. I mean The Fellowship of the Ring is a beautiful, flawless masterpiece and The Two Towers only builds on that making the story even more intriguing and exciting
