The 2003 series was a great adaptation of the original comics. The 2012 series is awesome too, in that it pays homage to every incarnation that has come before (ie. cartoons, movies, comics). I give them a tie, and acknowledge my nostalgia likely as a way of not giving the '03 version a clear win. But also, it did give us many staples that went on to later series the comics did not have and/or approved on.
@Pirelli9137 жыл бұрын
As someone that grew up on the original 1987 cartoon (I was 5 when the five-part mini-series premiered in December 1987), I initially didn't want to give the 2003 series a chance, because it wasn't my childhood. But I inadvertently watched one episode of the 2003 series and later, fished out an old TMNT comic I had and realized the 2003 cartoon was a more close representation of the original 1984 graphic novels. I then gave it a chance and will now proudly stand behind that the 2003 series is far better than the 1987 series (which, honestly, hasn't aged well). To top it off, I later got the 25th Anniversary Volume 1 (issues 1-11, plus the four one-shots and Fugitoid issue) as well as Volume 3 (Return to New York) and Volumes 4-5 (City at War). Even though #1 was where it started, City at War will forever be my favorite story arc. It's 13 issues for cryin' out loud!

When I was in High School, there was this substitute teacher we had that used to work for Disney (I don't know why he stopped), and he could sketch incredible drawings in under a few minutes. One day, he told us a story about how he went to school with a guy who was obsessed with drawing comic books. One day he told our teacher he had come up with this idea for a comic and that our teacher should buy it from him because he knew it would make him famous. Can you imagine Christopher Nolan creates a brand new trilogy. And using the same cinematography as the dark knight. A chase scene having the turtles trying to save April from the foor and shredder along with the foot are destroying New York. Could you imagine what he can do. How emotional it would be.

It's a shame the Archie Comics series didn't get any respect. It took a while but it eventually grew into a great and worthwhile series. The Future Shark Trilogy is a classic.
@thechad76437 жыл бұрын
Mark Michel, I can't see something like the Archie series being an animated series, just the focus on world religions alone wouldn't translate. But I am glad to see armaggon get brought back in the new cgi turtles series, if not significantly toned down from his comic incarnation.

I want to try and start reading those myself, mostly because the Archie version of Slash looks really cool
@thechad76437 жыл бұрын
They are highly recommended, but be aware that the writer had to fight to bring a darker vibe to the comic since this is Archie we are talking about here. it really doesn't start to really get interesting until the Japan arc in the mid 20's. But the introduction of Slash is a great arc as well.

IDW recently crossed them with Batman...twice. Once the Comic version then the Nick/BMTAS versions. When TMNT were printed by Image they crossed over with the Savage Dragon quite a bit. One of the issues in the 1st volume (#8) was a crossover with Cerebus the Aardvark. The Turtles also had a 4 issue crossover with Flaming Carrot.
@DreamDragoness257 жыл бұрын
Sweet! I'll have to find those issues with Batman. I know of Savage Dragon via Sonic Super Special #7, but I don't know the rest. Cerebus makes me think of Mass Effect 2 & 3, Aardvark makes me think of the actual animal. And the Flaming Carrot? Sounds like vegetable guaranteed to give you heartburn.

@beats0me7 жыл бұрын
Oh right, sorry, I read into that differently, I haven’t seen their other lists for this sort of thing I can think of many comics where it would be hilarious if ‘the one that started it all’ were ranked the best, stuff like the first appearance of Daredevil or Deadpool are interesting to read as a curiosity but aren’t really good stories in their own right
