Light Yagami - Death Note in the beginning his motive to only punish Criminals made him more of a hero...until he developed a God Complex & started to just execute anyone who crossed him.

I think Ainz and Tanya need to switch places. Ainz is definitely evil but he only goes extra if he is disrespected such as thieves invading his home or a troll calling him a coward. If Ainz is respected or appropriately feared, he can be very merciful in his own way. Even to his enemies if they recognize his strength such as ending their suffering instantly. He also has respect for skilled warriors. He used an instant death spell against Gazaf in their duel. When he fought against Clementine who was stronger than Gazaf, Ainz didn’t bother using magic on her and just crushed her to death, this shows that he didn’t need to use magic against Gazaf but choice to out of respect. Everyone Ainz does is for his kingdom and the people who worship him. This is how Tanya is different. Tanya could care a rat’s ass if a person respects her. If they are an enemy, she will kill them brutally. She has no respect for other’s beliefs due to her hatred towards god. Unlike Ainz who didn’t take Gazaf’s sword due to keeping his word, Tanya stole a guy’s gift from his daughter as a Christmas present. Ainz treats the floor guardians as they were his children and only punishes them if they fail a mission though the punishment isn’t usually too harsh. Tanya only sees her soliders as just that and she will humiliate them if they don’t meet up to her high standards. She is also only considered about getting herself to live an easy live and doesn’t actually care about the well being of the Fatherland. To put it shortly, Ainz and Tanya are both very evil. However, Ainz is still fair and understanding while Tanya is heartless and cruel. Also, in Isekai Quartet, while Ainz and Tanya do get along well, Tanya does make Ainz nervous. Just a fun fact I wanted to share.

Id say this makes Ainz worse, as Tanya puts all life thats not own nations, below her and her comrads life, which while brutal is the ideal solider. Ainz however is a brutal Tyrnat. He kills who he pleases without too much afterthought, but likes prais, as any tyrant does. Hes a collector, and vies lives as nothing more than something he may enjoy, which is why he keeps the skilled or talented warriors alive along as they are willing to serve under him, almost as tho he is a god. To him the people themselves do not matter, and neither does their lives, he simply wants to collect that which is unique to better understand how such things may come to happen, but if whoever it is doesnt want to be subservient to him, he kills them without a second thought. Gasef was used magic on because he did respect him, true, but he respected him how you respect and wild animal. He respected the bravery, courage, skill and nature of Gazef,but his life was worth less than a single coin, if he didnt serve under him. Ainz also doesnt feel much more than respect or hate, unless you are from Nazarick inwhich he cares deeply for you. He respected Gazef and therefor gave him mercy in a quick death, he hated Clementain for being arrogant, killing people he thought he could use, and not recognising his Supreme Power, and for the crime of ignorance and unkowingly being a distrubance for Nazarick, her sentence was a slow, brutal death. There are two instances where we see his true colors fully on display. The first one is when adventerurs fo into the tomb of Nazarick, which he orcastated they would find, only so he could test certain defenses in the new world. he then had all adventerurs brutally murdered, eaten alive and undergo horrid experiments, all for simply doing a job, which he had tricked them into doing. Even when he was fighting as a "gladiator" he understood this fact, with the line of "Do you not kill the maggot that has gotton to your food? Or well, I suppose you could blame the fly who laid its eggs there to start with", its much more than a simple thought, fact is, he realizes the adventures are simply maggots, put into Nazarick by a "fly" the noble who started the whole campaign but also himself, as he again, was the one who made sure Nazarick was found to begin with. He sees here how the adventerurs arent evil, nor were they trying to rob him or hurt anyone of Nazarick, but simply just following their insticts and doing a job. On top of this, he sees the geniun friendship between the party in the gladiator pit, and as such instead of showing mercy for example to the one person they all begged to be allowed to leave, as she has sisters in a bad situation, he instead paralyzes two, sending them to be feasted on while alive, and become new nests for the different bug like creatures in Nazarick, he experiments on the cleric till he goes insane, due to the alteration of his minds, and his "mercy" was to kill the girl who only wanted money to do good by her sisters, by having shalltear rip out all hope of survival before killing her. He orcastrated the brutal death of hundreds of adventerurs, many only doing a job, not knowing what they were doing. He made sure they came, only so he could kill them in all sorts of ways. He then used this brutal happening he caused, to justify an "allaience" with the Empire, all which was a plot to get us to the second thing. The war. After having orcestared everything so that a war would happen, he then killed 70000 men for the crime of sercing their king and country, and then slaughter the other 150 000 or so soldiers with the "baby goats", all for a single city. Again, his justfication for all this, was based in an event he himself made sure to happen. He killed hundreds of thousands of people, all for a single event, he himself, made happen. And he isnt close to done in the anime yet, The brutal slaughter of the Kingdom was only the start. He is evil incarnate at this level, we just tend to be tricked by his words more than we even realize, for thats what he does. He tricks, and kills, as he wishes.

I think something people forget about Ainz is he has the mind of a human, but he is not one. He literally lost most of his emotions since becoming an undead, therefore, how evil is he really? He's a literal monster who doesn't have human morality. Do you call a cat evil for playing with a dead mouse, or a human evil when they kill a roach? It's a Cthulhu-like different level of existence.

I love the fact that the AOT fans can't agree whether or not Eren is evil. Makes for really good conversations and debates. I keep going back and forth whether is or not. I know he committed genocide and killed many people which is dead wrong. But, he also did not start the war and was trying to protect his friends and the island. So I'm conflicted.

Eren's grind down from idealistic freedom wanting hero to jaded tyrant with extermination on his mind is quite the jarring change ever put to a protagonist. It shows what such a world can do especially since he was already unstable.

Alucard is like one of the best examples of Chaotic Good I've ever seen. Yeah he's evil but he is still fighting on the side of good (though purely by Interga's orders who he is extremely loyal to lol)

When we saw Light as a protagonist in the beginning, but we just find out he wanted to play god. He later comes out to be our antagonist. This Anime is a bit more straightforward than Eren's backstory. I've watched a couple of the episodes, but the psychological impact in the past kind of made me stop watching. I suppose I'll return to watching it.

Kiritsugu and Eren are NOT evil imo. Kiritsugu is literally the least evil master in Fate Zero besides Waver Velvet. All of the crimes Kiritsugu committed were against horrible people. He is fighting a war full of ruthless people and he must be equally ruthless in order to win. He never harms an innocent person in Fate Zero and he has an altruistic reason for wanting the Holy Grail. It is also heavily implied that he genuinely did love his wife. Eren is not evil because he never actually intended to complete the Rumbling. From the moment he began planning to start the Rumbling, he always planned to have his friends stop him. This is the reason he tried to alienate his friends throughout season 4. He wanted them to have no hesitation when it came time to kill him. In the end, Eren’s actions also had an undeniably positive impact on the world in the long run, as the world was at peace with no war for 20,000 years after his death.

Even though Erens intention was to be stopped, he still killed 80% of the population of the world in the process. If he had marched slower through the ocean, they would’ve killed him before he even reached the mainland. he even states during his dialogue with Armin, that he never really cared for humanity. He is objectively evil.

@@Jinz3 Kiritsugu only killed objectively bad or evil people (apart from Lancer but he didn't really kill him since he can just be summoned again in the next Holy Grail War). In regards to Eren, it is implied that he killed people because he felt that he didn't have a choice. He saw two futures with the Attack Titan. One future where he did start the Rumbling and one future where he didn't. In the latter future, all of the people in his country and all of his friends were slaughtered. He felt he had no choice but to start the Rumbling or else all of his loved ones would be killed.

@@bolo_de_mulango3142 actually yes he is. He was first introduced as a villain in the Sisters Arc where he was straight up murdering people just to increase his own power. While his involvement with Last Order has somewhat redeemed him he still describes himself as a villain and most of his fights either end with characters dead or unconscious with a few notable exceptions. He's not as evil as Mugino or Kakine(Kakine was rendered unconscious by Accelerator during their first fight and killed by Accelerator during their second fight btw) who are the other 2 villain protagonists in the ToAru franchise but he is still a villain just not as bad as he used to be

At that time I considered him more as an antagonist who opposed the protagonists because he had a justification, he wanted to be the strongest so that no one would mess with him and he decided to kill clones that he saw as dolls under the influence of scientists in order to achieve this desire . In other words, just a boy who didn't know right from wrong and, due to the influence of others, ended up taking the wrong path. After the Sisters Arc he acted more as an anti-hero because he came out of the dark side and only killed the villains. His spin-off literally consists of him helping a blonde girl, but in his brutal way because it's part of his personality. The whole thing about him calling himself a villain is because he can't forgive himself for what he did in the past but although he talks about being a villain, his actions are like those of a hero, in other words, he's just a tsundere about it There are Touma, Accelerator and Hamazura as Index's protagonists and each one has a different concept of hero. The concept of Accelerator is: "One who has committed many crimes and is now regretting his actions after understanding how much pain it causes the people around him" After the 3rd world war where he was "saved" by Touma, Accelerator became a complete hero in search of redemption, he no longer kills. He even becomes Touma's fan Number 1 and is inspired by him to resolve things. And well, I have to say that his peak as a hero is in the Novel. But it would be a spoiler.

@bolo_de_mulango3142 The 7 ToAru franchise protagonists are in order of series release Touma, Misaka, Accelerator, Junko, Kekine, Shokuhou, and Mugino since those are the characters who had their own series. I've seen Accelerator series so I am aware of what it's about. I mentioned that Accelerator got redeemed in my prevoius comment. Also there are maybe 4 characters in this video that are actual villains the rest are Antiheros. Accelerator counts more than most of the characters in this video since he actually started as a villain

If you mean vigilante Deku, then he's most definitely not a villain. He was still helping people out and even when his friends was trying to get him to come back, he made absolute sure not to try to hurt any of them while trying to escape from them

Had a feeling Light would be number 1. I've often heard people talk about Light as someone who initially had good intentions but was eventually corrupted by power. Personally, I don't think Light ever had good intentions. From the first episode, it was established that he was just bored and wanted to be worshipped and feared. While the moral implications of the Death Note itself are certainly intriguing and worth exploring, I've always considered Light a truly despicable and irredeemable character who didn't care for anyone apart from how he could use them to achieve his own ends.

Sheesh, I had no idea there were so many anime out there with evil protagonists. I was expecting “Happy Sugar Life” to be on here. Well I can cross off all those series off my list of anime I’ve yet to see. I like action, but I mostly enjoy them with comedy and not with that much evil.

I think I will add a two more: Tatsuya Shiba from The Irregular at Magic High School. Whatever you do, do not harm his sister. Hajime Nagumo from Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest. He will kill anyone who prevents him from going home to earth.

Light Yagami's god complex influenced the various villains in every media like Kuroto Dan from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid. Kuroto Dan's devious personality and severe god complex make him a threatening antagonist who meets his very end with the Dangerous Zombie Gashat that he created and used for his selfish actions like what happened to Light's karmic demise at the hands of his very Death Note.

Hmm, I don't think Eren should count. His foresight revealed that if he didn't start the Rumbling that the war would have gone on until all of humanity was wiped out and the Earth became a barren wasteland. By doing what he did, yes, he killed 80% of humanity, but he allowed the remaining 20% to survive and have a future and allowed the Earth to retain life and put an end to the war. That's not an act of evil that's him saving what he could to prevent the apocalypse

Am I surprised that neither Natsuno, Toshio, or Sunako from Shiki didn’t make the list. Even though they along with Seishin & Tatsumi are the 5 protagonists of the Anime. Some would consider them along with Tatsumi evil. Like how Sunako was the cause of a village being light on fire, just to make the place a colony for Vampires, but isn’t as strong like Mina from Dance in the Vampire Bund. Natsuno, started off as a young teenage boy, who was forced to live in a village with his parents. Where has issues with a girl who’s madly in love with him(like Yuno & Zero Two), who comes back as a Vampire who killed one of his friends, who came back to kill him, which made him a Daywalker, who could’ve stop his stalker for making her friends orphans, despite how Tatsumi manipulated her into thinking it’s true, just like with Natsuno’s friend. Which brings us to Toshio, who try’s so hard to save those from dying & rising up as Vampires. But took things too far by putting both his family & staff members at risk, just like what Natsuno did with his family & friends. All because he couldn’t get a girl like Megumi off his back, before her death. Instead, they both exposed the Shiki race to the remaining Villagers, which turns them all into a horde of Psychopaths that never stop until the Monsters that took away their love ones were all slaughtered. Which burns the Home they try to save from the Undead, knowing that both sides won’t had to live in it ever again.

I don't think Eren can be considered a evil, his fate is basicly sealed already by Ymir from the beginning, and it's revealed that he doesn't want to take the path he follows tbh. He is curious about what is it like to be evil, but he just wants to be with his love before anything. Also it's heavily implied that he is just a subject to the hate of the world and it's not his choices that lead to this.

The protagonist of the story is the character from which the story itself is mainly being told through the perspective of and follows from beginning to end. It's not a matter of good and evil. For example, if there's a story being told through the point of view of a crook trying to escape justice from a cop pursuing him, the crook would be considered the protagonist while the cop would be considered the antagonist.
