I don't think he needs to be in Avengers. He was a founder of the Defenders team though. That featured Strange, Silver Surfer, Hulk, and Namor. What I'm excited about, is that with Strange coming out, we'd have a second member of the Illuminati in the MCU. We can't have any X-Men members but we could still have Black Bolt, Black Panther and Namor. Marvel are already down for an Inhumans movie. And it's only a matter of time before Black Panther. Namor is the iffy one. Marvel said if a Sub-Mariner movie would be made they would be the ones doing it but that it's complicated right now. Some rights somehow still tied up at Universal studios. Marvel would probably have to work out a deal with them.

Numinous123 Dr. Strange -Love- isn't actually stronger than Dormammu you know, he just keeps outwitting him. Most of the time he beats him because Dormammu is bound to his word to leave/give-up after whatever contest he stupidly agrees to. Dormammu is stupid strong, apparently trumping Celestial and higher-class gods, even rewriting the universe with ease the one time he won. That's why the writers trapped him in that homeless man, they can't figure out how to use him in a smart way that doesn't end with what seems like plot armor for Strange.

Numinous123 I know, I was just saying that because this was a VS topic. You can't really use Dormammu as a barometer for Strange's success in a fight because he never outright overpowered him. It's impossible to measure resourcefulnes in a fight unless the participants undergo the same (or same types of) trials so we can't really go off of that.

That's a good introductory of how Doctor Strange became a magician superhero. So he's more of a medical surgeon with only uses his professional hands until he got crashed by a car and his hands was broken, there's nothing much for him to use it. So he goes the ancient rule of how he can use it to transform his hands into a magical strength and he became a very well made sorcerer. The only good side that the new movie will bring is one single actor can do it is...Benedict Cumberbatch. That's a really good choice to play as a Marvel's greatest hero and I like it when all star celebrities can cast Marvel characters into an awesome heroes. I hope this movie will be good.

There was already a Doctor Strange movie in the late 70's, a pilot for a Doctor Strange TV series that never was. You can watch the full movie here on KZbin. The occult isn't inherently evil. There are both good and bad sides to it as with any belief system. Doctor Strange isn't demonic, he fights demons. Many of his worst enemies are demons. The Sorcerer Supreme protects Earth from paranormal/magical threats. He's fought AGAINST Mephisto (the Marvel Universes equivalent to Satan) for crying out loud.
