Well, the 1959 Ben-Hur was itself ALSO a remake of a 1925 movie that featured an epic chariot race and sea battle. And there was also a 1908 version before that. Some of the classic stories that existed before film aren't so much reboots as "a retelling." I don't like reboot-mania either, but things like Shakespeare plays, Charles Dickens stories, Biblical stories, etc. do fall into a different category. It's kind of like with Christmas music and how multiple singers do their own Christmas album and thus each have versions of the same song. It's a lot different than a contemporary song sung by two different singers causing people to get upset that so-and-so is copying so-and-so (not necessarily on copyright grounds, but on lack of creativity).

I'm young enough that even the 1998 Psycho was "before my time" so (while I saw the original version first) it wasn't a "new" movie to me...but I STILL found it ridiculous and unnecessary. Psycho (1960) is one of those rare movies that even 60+ years later is still excellent very very effective. I think there are some classic movies (especially those that are adapted from novels) where due to censorship, budgetary restrictions, lack of ability to create certain effects etc could be remade and be amazing, there are also some - and Psycho (1960) is very much one of them - that just need to be left alone.

I will agree the movie red dawn (2012) was something that nobody ask for; but when you look at now it makes since that they would put North Korea as the big bad, when you think about recent years you think about how North Korea has made strides in long range missile as well as causing more and more panic in recent years.

I will never watch another version of Footloose. Kevin Bacon and all the rest of the cast are not to be replaced. It's one of the best movies of the 80's IMO.

I liked Carrie (2013) and it made me go back and watch the original which of course was great but I still think the remake was a solid update.
@Jeremiah_Rivers762 жыл бұрын
Same! I honestly believe that the 2013 version needs as much love as the original. The 2002 TV movie adaptation’s special and visual effects are what you’d expect from a TV movie, but I don’t think they’re that bad, nor is that remake itself.

I actually liked a number of these, even though of course they couldn't be as good as the original, sometimes seeing an alternative take on the same story can yield different advantages even if it ends up with different numerous disadvantages. For example, the Carrie remake felt more satisfying a third act to me by upping the amount of carnage and directing it more towards the characters that deserved it.

I really don't understand the hatred towards The Nightmare On Elm Street movie. As a huge fan of the original run of movies, I thought it was refreshing to get a new take on the character - It's not a perfect movie by any means but people seem to hate on it way harder that it deserves. That 'Did you know that after the heart stops beating, the brain can function for well over 7 minutes? We got 6 more minutes to play!' is still chilling to this day.

20 -I liked the original trilogy better 19 -never seen it but it’s bad as it is 18 -yeah, didn’t see this 17 -didn’t see it. I like Russell Brand but he’s better in other movies 16 -Saw it and I love it. Carrie is the only movie I like from Stephen King 15 -heard it’s good but didn’t see it. My parents did 14 -I like Robin Hood. Didn’t like 2018 version that much, only the Disney movie 13 -that scared my dad for sure but the remake looks meh 12 -didn’t see it 11 -didn’t see it 10 -didn’t see it 9 -looks awesome but didn’t see it 8 -didn’t see it 7 -I saw it 6 -I saw the original, liked it 5 -Saw the creepy original but not the remake 4 -I love HellBoy. I don’t mind gore and action in other movies but the remake is pure awful of blah, blah, blah 3 -Didn’t see it, only the trailer 2 -Heard of it but didn’t see it, except for the funny parody in Family Guy 1 -I’m not crazy enough to see that

Well, I for one prefer that movie to the original - and I saw the original on its arrival. Nevertheless, I was (pleasantly) surprised that the remake didn't make this list, considering the ire it provoked before it was even released. Man, was that pre-release "debate" a conservatard slanderfest...

it had nothing to do with Politics the acting was horrible and the script was non-sense, I didnt care about the fact that females were the stars that didnt bother Me at all but the bad acting and script is what killed that movie

I might be one of the few who liked Johnny depp's version way better than the original, it's a childhood classic for me i was underwhelmed by the original for some reason i just found wonka too creepy in that one (as he should be i know it just didn't click with me as a child)

OTHER bad remakes that nobody asked for: Dumbo (live action Disney---in fact, ALL of the Disney remakes!! Mulan, Lion King, Aladdin, Lady & the Tramp, etc.), the all-female version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' (called The Hustle), the 2016 all-female Ghostbusters, Downhill and Upside (remakes of their foreign film counterparts), Overboard, 2019's Child's Play, What Men Want, 2019's Charlies Angels, Death Wish, and let's not forget RDJ's Dolittle!!

If you set aside the RoboCop reboot as just a movie on its own and not a reboot, it's not that bad. If you compare it to the original, then yeah it's bad lol. I'm hoping they continue trying to make the Dark Universe, because that could be awesome. All the great horror icons in rated R horror movies, building up to Dracula. Then have one final film with all the monsters together, kinda like an updated, more mature The Monster Squad movie. That movie is so good btw...I love The Monster Squad.

I agree with Psycho, Poltergeist, A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Mummy but I would also like to mention Halloween. No one asked for a remake of John Carpenter's Halloween. I don't want a back story of Michael Meyers. What makes Michael Meyers so terrifying is that you don't know why he kills. You make a back story of Michael Meyers then you lose all of the mystique. I don't care why he kills. That movie was so unnecessary just like the sequel as well.
@heatherr04202 жыл бұрын
As far as Psycho is concerned, one of the finest movies ever made, I don't think it should have been remade at all, but if it had to be remade I think as far as for Norman Bates I think Edward Norton would have been a better choice, even though he might have been a little young at the time. Vince Vaughn is a decent actor, but for me he just shines in comedic roles, which there is absolutely nothing wrong with that
