They warned us about the nudity, and the most stringent thing they said about the literal sexual underage material was that there was nudity and if you laughed or made a fuss you're going to the principals office. 🙄 I can't believe they showed that movie knowing both those actors were children. The movie was horrible for having underage actors do a gratuitous nude love scene which isn't in the original at all. However, let's not forget that Juliet is only 13 in Shakespeare's play ("not yet 14," says Juliet's mother), and Romeo (late teens?) only goes after her because Juliet's cousin had rejected him. He used Juliet because he had no luck with her cousin.

I was the same age as the stars of "Romeo & Juliet" at the time it came out -- my grandparents came to see it. At the time it was thought of as daring but not exploitative because the context of the scene was appropriate for nudity and an accurate representation of Shakespeare's work. What has changed fifty-plus years later is society's attitude. We can't sue people today for what they did fifty years ago because our mores changed -- we can only choose not to do it now. The "Twilight Zone" tragedy destroyed John Landis's career.

You're absolutely right about Nosferatu. When Bram Stoker's estate sued over that one, a German court ruled in their favor and actually ordered all copies of the film to be destroyed. For decades it was considered a lost film, very fondly remembered by those who'd seen it, but by no one else. It wasn't till some previously forgotten surviving copies were discovered in the 1960s, long after the Dracula copyright had expired, that the movie could be seen and appreciated once more.

I can't speak about lawsuits or maybe even controversies but there are some movies this made me think of: Passion of Christ (?) - It was a movie where a ton of people had to leave mid-way due to the cruxifiction scene, and it was apparently done with so much gore, that people would actually pass out or vomit then and there. I've seen this covered on a few vids here, though. Osmosis Jones - Personally I liked it as a kid, but as an adult, I can see how people absolutely hated this movie. It has a ton of grossout humor, especially in the live action scenes, and in a way, Frank was a very disgusting character in the film. It was a major box office flop, though at least it still made a spinoff series and had a well known villain. It also had a song promoting rape being sung during the film. Apparently even Chris Rock hated his roll as Osmosis Jones, which to me is sad, but since I don't know why (and may need to look this up), I can't say anything otherwise. I liked his roles in other films as well, and it seemed like he enjoyed them as well since he came back to do them. Also fun fact: Apparently they were considering Tim Allen to voice Thrax. I'm just trying to compare that to what we got. :P A Nightmare on Elm Street (remake): Idk, even my horror movie friends hated it. I'm not sure if it was due to pure fondness for the OG films, but they said it sucked miserably. They said things like Freddy was nothing like the OG (aside from not having his original actor, his makeup was awful and his humor wasn't there), and it sounds like the director even screwed up Transformers movies at the time, so...Maybe Freddy's dead for good.
@Sos4R4y2 ай бұрын
In my opinion, whoever that re did Freddy's makeup should be sued or whoever told them to change it. It originally looked like an actual burn victim but they were told it was too much and had to change it to be more tame. I think half the hate this movie received was due to how bad Freddy looked

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a movie about classic Victorian-era characters teaming up to fight an evil villain. Allan Moore, who wrote the comic book on which it was very loosely based, hated absolutely everything about the adaptation, starting before it even began production. (Allan Moore famously, automatically hates anybody else's take on his work, no matter what.) Then the writers of another script, called Cast of Characters, sued for plagiarism, claiming LXG was a rip-off. This despite the fact that CoC centered around a completely different concept and featured a completely different, you know, cast of characters. Moore was put in the difficult position of having to testify in court on behalf of the producers of a movie he'd never wanted made, stating that he'd written the comic book long before the CoC script existed, and he'd never even heard of CoC or its authors till the lawsuit came up.

What people forget is, Baldwin was the producer on the film. That makes him responsible for the film and what happens on it. If he just starred and not produced, it would be different. Normally, the producers would be sued, but in this case, Baldwin is the producer. It was his movie. A little fact about tattoo. You don't own your tattoo. The artist that tattoo you own the right to it. It is their art on you. That the reason why the artist sue the Hangover movie and not Mike Tyson.

Same with custom home designs. The designer/architect/draftsman who draws the plans owns them and solely owns the right to reproduce them. Not the client or the builder, unless otherwise expressly conveyed.

But if you PAID for the tattoo, don't you now own it? This is double dipping. They got paid at the time, and then want to be paid a second time. Unless they have a patent on the design, the artist doesn't legally own it either. Plenty of people walking around with love heart tattoos. Is the first person who tattooed it going to sue everyone who has it?

@@dhenderson1810 You are pretty much paying for their labor and material to put the "image" on you. I'm not a lawyer but it assume that any unique tattoo or highly recognizable tattoo, the tattooist get the right for it. I can't say if it a image of a dead love one or an image own by another party. I highly doubt a tattoo artist would come and claim the tattoo is his unless you're famous. Example would be Mike Tyson or any celeb that has a tattoo. Also a tattoo has to be unique. If it a simple heart, there no way it going to fly in court since so many artist done hearts to thousand of people.

@QuocTran-nd5nc So it isn't like the tattoo artist isn't compensated at all for his time and labor.. Then he tries to double dip? Unless paperwork can be shown to prove that he has patented the design and so no one else can ever use it, then I don't see how he can claim it is exclusively his. Also, if he is tattooing the same design on multiple people, it could be argued that it is creating these situations. Also, you say that they sue when it is a celebrity. This just shows that the tattooist is a gold digging opportunist, riding off the back of someone else's success. They just sue to gef their own five minutes of fame. It's quite pathetic actually.

@@dhenderson1810 Calm down. You do understand when I said "I'm not a lawyer"? Go and do your own research. You are taking this too seriously and taking things out of context. Tattoo artist can claim a tattoo is his making but doesn't mean he will sue for money. Celeb are in photo everywhere and a lots of them have tattoo. An artist who tattoo them can claim them if proven they did the tattoo. It doesn't mean they will sue the Celeb for showing it off. What I saying is Celebrity have noticeable tattoo since they are in media all the time. That is not double dipping. Double dipping would be tattooing the person and then suing the person for having the tattoo. What the artist is suing for is the use of their artwork that is use for profit. Understand the context this. The ARTIST is suing because his work is being use WITHOUT his CONSENT and MADE MONEY that is NOT PAY for the use of his work. The Hangover movie use Mike Tyson's tattoo which is own by the tattoo artist. Movie made money, the artist want some of that money since it is his work that is shown in the movie. The artist sue the movie whatever but not Mike Tyson. This would fall apart if the artist themselves allow the use of their work in other media. TLDR: It about copyright and more into copyright law. Not going to discuss more about this. Not a lawyer. You keep saying it double dip but it not double dipping.
